۱ 1 امثال سلیمان بن داود پادشاه اسرائیل

The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, King of Israel:

۲ 2 به جهت دانستن حکمت و عدل، و برای فهمیدن کلمات فطانت.

For the knowledge of wisdom and correction, for discerning the sayings of intelligence;

۳ 3 به جهت اکتساب ادب معرفت آمیز، و عدالت و انصاف و استقامت.

For receiving the correction of prudence, righteousness and justice, and equity;

۴ 4 تاساده دلان را زیرکی بخشد، و جوانان را معرفت وتمیز.

For giving To the simple shrewdness, To the young man, knowledge and discretion.

۵ 5 تا مرد حکیم بشنود و علم را بیفزاید. ومرد فهیم تدابیر را تحصیل نماید.

A wise man, will hear, and will increase learning, and a, discreet man, wise counsels, will acquire,

۶ 6 تا امثال وکنایات را بفهمند، کلمات حکیمان و غوامض ایشان را.

By gaining discernment of proverb, and satire, the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

۷ 7 ترس یهوه آغاز علم است. لیکن جاهلان حکمت و ادب را خوار می‌شمارند.

The reverence of Yahweh, is the beginning of knowledge, Wisdom and correction, the foolish have despised.

۸ 8 ‌ای پسر من تادیب پدر خود را بشنو، و تعلیم مادر خویش را ترک منما.

Hear, my son, the correction of thy father, and do not reject the instruction of thy mother;

۹ 9 زیرا که آنها تاج زیبایی برای سر تو، و جواهر برای گردن توخواهد بود.

For, a wreath of beauty, shall they be to thy head, and chains of ornament, to thy neck.

۱۰ 10 ‌ای پسر من اگر گناهکاران تو رافریفته سازند، قبول منما.

My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent.

۱۱ 11 اگر گویند: «همراه مابیا تا برای خون در کمین بنشینیم، و برای بی‌گناهان بی‌جهت پنهان شویم،

If they say—Come with us, —Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us watch in secret for him who is needlessly innocent;

۱۲ 12 مثل هاویه ایشان را زنده خواهیم بلعید، و تندرست مانندآنانی که به گور فرو می‌روند. (Sheol h7585)

Let us engulf them, like hades, alive, While in health, like them who are going down to the pit; (Sheol h7585)

۱۳ 13 هر گونه اموال نفیسه را پیدا خواهیم نمود. و خانه های خود را ازغنیمت مملو خواهیم ساخت.

All costly substance, shall we find, We shall fill our houses with spoil;

۱۴ 14 قرعه خود رادر میان ما بینداز. و جمیع ما را یک کیسه خواهدبود.»

Thy lot, shalt thou cast into our midst, One purse, shall there be, for us all.

۱۵ 15 ‌ای پسر من با ایشان در راه مرو. و پای خودرا از طریقهای ایشان باز دار

My son, do not walk in the way with them, Withhold thy foot from their path.

۱۶ 16 زیرا که پایهای ایشان برای شرارت می‌دود و به جهت ریختن خون می‌شتابد.

For, their feet, to mischief, do run, and haste to the shedding of blood.

۱۷ 17 به تحقیق، گستردن دام در نظرهر بالداری بی‌فایده است.

Surely, in vain, is spread the net, in the sight of aught that hath wings!

۱۸ 18 لیکن ایشان به جهت خون خود کمین می‌سازند، و برای جان خویش پنهان می‌شوند.

Yet, they, for their own blood, lie in wait, They watch in secret for their own life.

۱۹ 19 همچنین است راههای هر کس که طماع سود باشد، که آن جان مالک خود را هلاک می‌سازد.

Such are the ways of every one that graspeth with greed, The life of the owners thereof, it taketh away!

۲۰ 20 حکمت در بیرون ندا می‌دهد و در شوارع عام آواز خود را بلند می‌کند.

Wisdom, in the open place, soundeth forth, in the broadways, she raiseth her voice;

۲۱ 21 در سرچهارراهها در دهنه دروازه‌ها می‌خواند و در شهربه سخنان خود متکلم می‌شود

At the head of bustling streets, she crieth aloud, —at the openings of the gates in the city—her sayings, she doth utter: —

۲۲ 22 که «ای جاهلان تا به کی جهالت را دوست خواهید داشت؟ و تا به کی مستهزئین از استهزا شادی می‌کنند و احمقان از معرفت نفرت می‌نمایند؟

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and, scoffers, in scoffing, delight them? and, dullards, hate knowledge?

۲۳ 23 به‌سبب عتاب من بازگشت نمایید. اینک روح خود را بر شما افاضه خواهم نمود و کلمات خود را بر شما اعلام خواهم کرد.

Will ye turn, at my reproof? Lo! I will pour out to you my spirit, I will make known my words to you.

۲۴ 24 زیرا که چون خواندم، شما ابانمودید و دستهای خود را افراشتم و کسی اعتنانکرد.

Because I called, and ye refused, I stretched out my hand, and no one regarded;

۲۵ 25 بلکه تمامی نصیحت مرا ترک نمودید وتوبیخ مرا نخواستید.

But ye dismissed all my counsel, and, to my rebuke, would not yield,

۲۶ 26 پس من نیز در حین مصیبت شما خواهم خندید و چون ترس بر شمامستولی شود استهزا خواهم نمود.

I also, at your calamity, will laugh, I will mock, when cometh your dread;

۲۷ 27 چون خوف مثل باد تند بر شما عارض شود، و مصیبت مثل گردباد به شما دررسد، حینی که تنگی وضیق بر شما آید.

When cometh as a crashing your dread, and, your calamity, as a storm-wind, overtaketh, when there come upon you, distress and anguish.

۲۸ 28 آنگاه مرا خواهند خواندلیکن اجابت نخواهم کرد، و صبحگاهان مراجستجو خواهند نمود اما مرا نخواهند یافت.

Then, will they call me, but I will not answer, they will seek me diligently, but shall not find me.

۲۹ 29 چونکه معرفت را مکروه داشتند، و ترس خداوند را اختیار ننمودند،

Because they hated knowledge, and, the reverence of Yahweh, did not choose;

۳۰ 30 و نصیحت مراپسند نکردند، و تمامی توبیخ مرا خوار شمردند،

Consented not to my counsel, disdained all my rebuke,

۳۱ 31 بنابراین، از میوه طریق خود خواهند خورد، واز تدابیر خویش سیر خواهند شد.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and, with their own counsels, be filled.

۳۲ 32 زیرا که ارتداد جاهلان، ایشان را خواهد کشت و راحت غافلانه احمقان، ایشان را هلاک خواهد ساخت.

For, the turning away of the simple, will slay them, —and, the carelessness of dullards, will destroy them.

۳۳ 33 اما هر‌که مرا بشنود در امنیت ساکن خواهدبود، و از ترس بلا مستریح خواهد ماند.»

Whereas, he that hearkeneth unto me, shall dwell safely, and be at rest, without dread of misfortune.
