۱ 1 و تمامی جماعت بنی‌اسرائیل در ماه اول به بیابان صین رسیدند، و قوم درقادش اقامت کردند، و مریم در آنجا وفات یافته، دفن شد.

Then came the sons of Israel the whole assembly, into the desert of Zin in the first month, and the people dwelt in Kadesh, —and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

۲ 2 و برای جماعت آب نبود. پس بر موسی وهارون جمع شدند.

And there was no water for the assembly, —so they gathered together against Moses and against Aaron.

۳ 3 و قوم با موسی منازعت کرده، گفتند: «کاش که می‌مردیم وقتی که برادران ما در حضور خداوند مردند!

And the people contended with Moses, —and spake saying, Would then we had died when our brethren died, before Yahweh!

۴ 4 و چرا جماعت خداوند را به این بیابان آوردید تا ما و بهایم ما، دراینجا بمیریم؟

Wherefore then hast thou brought the convocation of Yahweh into this desert, —to die there, we, and our cattle?

۵ 5 و ما را از مصر چرا برآوردید تا مارا به این‌جای بد بیاورید که جای زراعت و انجیرو مو و انار نیست؟ و آب هم نیست که بنوشیم!»

And wherefore did ye cause us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us into this wretched place?—not a place of seeds, and figs, and vines and pomegranates, even water, is there none to drink.

۶ 6 و موسی و هارون از حضور جماعت نزد درخیمه اجتماع آمدند، و به روی خود درافتادند، وجلال خداوند بر ایشان ظاهر شد.

And Moses and Aaron went in from the presence of the multitude unto the entrance of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces, —and the glory of Yahweh appeared unto them.

۷ 7 و خداوندموسی را خطاب کرده، گفت:

Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:

۸ 8 «عصا را بگیر و توو برادرت هارون جماعت را جمع کرده، در نظرایشان به این صخره بگویید که آب خود را بدهد، پس آب را برای ایشان از صخره بیرون آورده، جماعت و بهایم ایشان را خواهی نوشانید.»

Take the staff and gather together the assembly, thou, and Aaron thy brother, then shall ye speak unto the cliff before their eyes and it shall give forth its waters, —so shalt thou bring forth unto them water, out of the cliff, and shalt cause the assembly, and their cattle to drink.

۹ 9 پس موسی عصا را از حضور خداوند، چنانکه او را فرموده بود، گرفت.

And Moses took the staff from before Yahweh, —as he commanded him.

۱۰ 10 و موسی وهارون، جماعت را پیش صخره جمع کردند، و به ایشان گفت: «ای مفسدان بشنوید، آیا از این صخره آب برای شما بیرون آوریم؟»

And Moses and Aaron gathered together the convocation before the cliff, —and he said unto them: Hear I pray you ye rebels! Out of this cliff, must we bring forth for you water?

۱۱ 11 و موسی دست خود را بلند کرده، صخره را دو مرتبه باعصای خود زد و آب بسیار بیرون آمد که جماعت و بهایم ایشان نوشیدند.

And Moses lifted high his hand and smote the cliff with his staff, twice, —and there came forth water in abundance, and the assembly and their cattle, did drink.

۱۲ 12 و خداوند به موسی و هارون گفت: «چونکه مرا تصدیق ننمودید تا مرا در نظر بنی‌اسرائیل تقدیس نمایید، لهذا شما این جماعت را به زمینی که به ایشان داده‌ام داخل نخواهید ساخت.»

Then said Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron, Because ye believed not in me, to hallow me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, shall ye not bring in this convocation into the land which I have given unto them.

۱۳ 13 این است آب مریبه‌جایی که بنی‌اسرائیل با خداوندمخاصمه کردند، و او خود را در میان ایشان تقدیس نمود.

The same, were the waters of Meribah [that is "Contention"] in that the sons of Israel contended with Yahweh, —and so he hallowed himself among them.

۱۴ 14 و موسی، رسولان از قادش نزد ملک ادوم فرستاد که «برادر تو اسرائیل چنین می‌گوید: که تمامی مشقتی را که بر ما واقع شده است، تومی دانی.

And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh, unto the king of Edom, —Thus, saith thy brother Israel, Thou thyself, knowest all the distress which befell us;

۱۵ 15 که پدران ما به مصر فرود آمدند ومدت مدیدی در مصر ساکن می‌بودیم، و مصریان با ما و با پدران ما، بد سلوکی نمودند.

and how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we abode in Egypt, many days, and that the Egyptians ill-treated us, and our fathers;

۱۶ 16 و چون نزد خداوند فریاد برآوردیم، او آواز ما را شنیده، فرشته‌ای فرستاد و ما را از مصر بیرون آورد. واینک ما در قادش هستیم، شهری که در آخرحدود توست.

and we made outcry unto Yahweh, and he heard our voice, and sent a messenger, and brought us forth out of Egypt, —lo! then, we, are in Kadesh, a city at the extremity of thy boundary,

۱۷ 17 تمنا اینکه از زمین تو بگذریم، از مزرعه و تاکستان نخواهیم گذشت، و آب ازچاهها نخواهیم نوشید، بلکه از شاهراه‌ها خواهیم رفت، و تا از حدود تو نگذشته باشیم، به طرف راست یا چپ انحراف نخواهیم کرد.»

Let us, we pray thee, pass through thy land—we will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the waters of a well, —by the king’s road, will we go—we will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left, until we get through thy boundary.

۱۸ 18 ادوم وی را گفت: «از من نخواهی گذشت والا به مقابله تو با شمشیر بیرون خواهم آمد.»

And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through my land, —lest with the sword, I come out to meet thee.

۱۹ 19 بنی‌اسرائیل در جواب وی گفتند: «از راههای عام خواهیم رفت و هرگاه من و مواشیم از آب توبنوشیم قیمت آن را خواهم داد، فقط بر پایهای خود می‌گذرم و بس.»

And the sons of Israel said unto him—By the highway, will we go up, and if thy waters, we should drink—I, and my cattle then would I give the price thereof, —only—it is nothing!—with my feet, would I pass through.

۲۰ 20 گفت: «نخواهی گذشت.» و ادوم با خلق بسیار و دست قوی به مقابله ایشان بیرون آمد.

And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out to meet him, with a strong people, and with a firm hand.

۲۱ 21 بدینطور ادوم راضی نشد که اسرائیل را از حدود خود راه دهد، پس اسرائیل از طرف او رو گردانید.

Thus did Edom refuse to give Israel passage through his boundary, —and Israel turned away from him.

۲۲ 22 پس تمامی جماعت بنی‌اسرائیل از قادش کوچ کرده، به کوه هور رسیدند.

Then set they forward from Kadesh, —and the sons of Israel. all the assembly, came in to Mount Hor.

۲۳ 23 و خداوندموسی و هارون را در کوه هور نزد سرحد زمین ادوم خطاب کرده، گفت:

Then spake Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron in Mount Hor, —near the boundary of the land of Edom saying:

۲۴ 24 «هارون به قوم خودخواهد پیوست، زیرا چونکه شما نزد آب مریبه از قول من عصیان ورزیدید، از این جهت او به زمینی که به بنی‌اسرائیل دادم، داخل نخواهد شد.

Aaron shall be withdrawn unto his kinsfolk, for he shall not enter into the land. which I have given unto the sons of Israel, —because ye spurned my bidding, at the waters of Meribah.

۲۵ 25 پس هارون و پسرش العازار را برداشته، ایشان را به فراز کوه هور بیاور.

Take thou Aaron, and Eleazar his son, —and bring them up Mount Hor;

۲۶ 26 و لباس هارون رابیرون کرده، بر پسرش العازار بپوشان، و هارون درآنجا وفات یافته، به قوم خود خواهد پیوست.»

and strip thou Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son, —and, Aaron, shall be withdrawn and shall die there.

۲۷ 27 پس موسی به طوری که خداوند او را امرفرموده بود، عمل نموده، ایشان درنظر تمامی جماعت به فراز کوه هور برآمدند.

And Moses did as Yahweh commanded, —and they went up into, Mount Hor, in sight of all the assembly.

۲۸ 28 و موسی لباس هارون را بیرون کرده، به پسرش العازارپوشانید. و هارون در آنجا بر قله کوه وفات یافت، و موسی و العازار از کوه فرود آمدند.

And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments and put them upon Eleazar his son, and Aaron died there, in the top of the mount, —and Moses and Eleazar came down out of the mount.

۲۹ 29 و چون تمامی جماعت دیدند که هارون مرد، جمیع خاندان اسرائیل برای هارون سی روز ماتم گرفتند.

And all the assembly saw that Aaron was dead; and they bewailed Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
