نحمیا 4

۱ 1 و هنگامی که سنبلط شنید که ما به بنای حصار مشغول هستیم، خشمش افروخته شده، بسیار غضبناک گردید و یهودیان را استهزانمود.

And it cometh to pass, when Sanballat hath heard that we are building the wall, that it is displeasing to him, and he is very angry and mocketh at the Jews,

۲ 2 و در حضور برادرانش و لشکر سامره متکلم شده، گفت: «این یهودیان ضعیف چه می‌کنند؟ آیا (شهر را) برای خود مستحکم خواهند ساخت و قربانی خواهند گذرانید و دریک روز کار را به انجام خواهند رسانید؟ و سنگهااز توده های خاکروبه، زنده خواهند ساخت؟ وحال آنکه سوخته شده است.»

and saith before his brethren and the force of Samaria, yea, he saith, 'What [are] the weak Jews doing? are they left to themselves? do they sacrifice? do they complete in a day? do they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish? — and they burnt!'

۳ 3 و طوبیای عمونی که نزد او بود گفت: «اگر شغالی نیز بر آنچه ایشان بنا می‌کنند بالا رود، حصار سنگی ایشان رامنهدم خواهد ساخت!»

And Tobiah the Ammonite [is] by him and saith, 'Also, that which they are building — if a fox doth go up, then it hath broken down their stone wall.'

۴ 4 ‌ای خدای ما بشنو، زیرا که خوار شده‌ایم وملامت ایشان را بسر ایشان برگردان و ایشان را درزمین اسیری، به تاراج تسلیم کن.

Hear, O our God, for we have been despised; and turn back their reproach on their own head, and give them for a spoil in a land of captivity;

۵ 5 و عصیان ایشان را مستور منما و گناه ایشان را از حضورخود محو مساز زیرا که خشم تو را پیش روی بنایان به هیجان آورده‌اند.

and do not cover over their iniquity, and their sin from before Thee let not be blotted out, for they have provoked to anger — over-against those building.

۶ 6 پس حصار را بنا نمودیم و تمامی حصار تانصف بلندی‌اش بهم پیوست، زیرا که دل قوم درکار بود.

And we build the wall, and all the wall is joined — unto its half, and the people have a heart to work.

۷ 7 و چون سنبلط و طوبیا و اعراب وعمونیان و اشدودیان شنیدند که مرمت حصاراورشلیم پیش رفته است و شکافهایش بسته می‌شود، آنگاه خشم ایشان به شدت افروخته شد.

And it cometh to pass, when Sanballat hath heard, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, that lengthening hath gone up to the walls of Jerusalem, that the breeches have begun to be stopped, then it is very displeasing to them,

۸ 8 و جمیع ایشان توطئه نمودند که بیایند و بااورشلیم جنگ نمایند و به آن ضرر برسانند.

and they conspire, all of them together, to come in to fight against Jerusalem, and to do to it injury.

۹ 9 پس نزد خدای خود دعا نمودیم و از ترس ایشان روز و شب پاسبانان در مقابل ایشان قراردادیم.

And we pray unto our God, and appoint a watch against them, by day and by night, because of them.

۱۰ 10 و یهودیان گفتند که «قوت حمالان تلف شده است و هوار بسیار است که نمی توانیم حصار را بنا نماییم.»

And Judah saith, 'The power of the burden-bearers hath become feeble, and the rubbish [is] abundant, and we are not able to build on the wall.'

۱۱ 11 و دشمنان ما می‌گفتند: «آگاه نخواهند شد و نخواهند فهمید، تا ما درمیان ایشان داخل شده، ایشان را بکشیم و کار راتمام نماییم.»

And our adversaries say, 'They do not know, nor see, till that we come in to their midst, and have slain them, and caused the work to cease.'

۱۲ 12 و واقع شد که یهودیانی که نزدایشان ساکن بودند آمده، ده مرتبه به ما گفتند: «چون شما برگردید ایشان از هر طرف بر ما(حمله خواهند‌آورد).»

And it cometh to pass, when the Jews have come who are dwelling near them, that they say to us ten times from all the places whither ye return — [they are] against us.

۱۳ 13 پس قوم را در جایهای پست، در عقب حصار و بر مکانهای خالی تعیین نمودم و ایشان رابرحسب قبایل ایشان، با شمشیرها و نیزه‌ها وکمانهای ایشان قرار دادم.

And I appoint at the lowest of the places, at the back of the wall, in the clear places, yea, I appoint the people, by their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows.

۱۴ 14 پس نظر کرده، برخاستم و به بزرگان و سروران و بقیه قوم گفتم: «از ایشان مترسید، بلکه خداوند عظیم و مهیب رابیاد آورید و به جهت برادران و پسران و دختران وزنان و خانه های خود جنگ نمایید.»

And I see, and rise up, and say unto the freemen, and unto the prefects, and unto the rest of the people, 'Be not afraid of them; the Lord, the great and the fearful, remember ye, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.'

۱۵ 15 و چون دشمنان ما شنیدند که ما آگاه شده‌ایم و خدا مشورت ایشان را باطل کرده است، آنگاه جمیع ما هر کس به‌کار خود به حصاربرگشتیم.

And it cometh to pass, when our enemies have heard that it hath been known to us, and God doth frustrate their counsel, and we turn back, all of us, unto the wall, each unto his work;

۱۶ 16 و از آن روز به بعد، نصف بندگان من به‌کار مشغول می‌بودند و نصف دیگر ایشان، نیزه‌ها و سپرها و کمانها و زره‌ها را می‌گرفتند وسروران در عقب تمام خاندان یهودا می‌بودند.

yea, it cometh to pass, from that day, half of my servants are working in the business, and half of them are keeping hold of both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the heads [are] behind all the house of Judah.

۱۷ 17 و آنانی که حصار را بنا می‌کردند و آنانی که بارمی بردند و عمله‌ها هر کدام به یک دست کارمی کردند و به‌دست دیگر اسلحه می‌گرفتند.

The builders on the wall, and the bearers of the burden, those lading, [each] with one of his hands is working in the business, and one is laying hold of the missile.

۱۸ 18 وبنایان هر کدام شمشیر بر کمر خود بسته، بنایی می‌کردند و کرنانواز نزد من ایستاده بود.

And the builders [are] each with his sword, girded on his loins, and building, and he who is blowing with a trumpet [is] beside me.

۱۹ 19 و به بزرگان و سروران و بقیه قوم گفتم: «کار، بسیار وسیع است و ما بر حصار متفرق و ازیکدیگر دور می‌باشیم.

And I say unto the freemen, and unto the prefects, and unto the rest of the people, 'The work is abundant, and large, and we are separated on the wall, far off one from another;

۲۰ 20 پس هر جا که آواز کرنارا بشنوید در آنجا نزد ما جمع شوید و خدای مابرای ما جنگ خواهد نمود.»

in the place that ye hear the voice of the trumpet thither ye are gathered unto us; our God doth fight for us.'

۲۱ 21 پس به‌کارمشغول شدیم و نصف ایشان از طلوع فجر تابیرون آمدن ستارگان، نیزه‌ها را می‌گرفتند.

And we are working in the business, and half of them are keeping hold of the spears, from the going up of the dawn till the coming forth of the stars.

۲۲ 22 وهم در آن وقت به قوم گفتم: «هر کس با بندگانش در اورشلیم منزل کند تا در شب برای ما پاسبانی نماید و در روز به‌کار بپردازد.»

Also, at that time I said to the people, 'Let each with his servant lodge in the midst of Jerusalem, and they have been to us by night a guard, and by day [for] the work:'

۲۳ 23 و من و برادران و خادمان من و پاسبانی که در عقب من می‌بودند، هیچکدام رخت خود را نکندیم و هر کس بااسلحه خود به آب می‌رفت.

and there are none — I and my brethren and my servants, the men of the guard who [are] after me — there are none of us putting off our garments, each [hath] his vessel of water.
