| «آیا لویاتان را با قلاب توانی کشید؟ یازبانش را با ریسمان توانی فشرد؟ | ۱ 1 |
Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord?
| آیادر بینی او مهار توانی کشید؟ یا چانه‌اش را باقلاب توانی سفت؟ | ۲ 2 |
Canst thou put a rope into his nose? Or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
| آیا او نزد تو تضرع زیادخواهد نمود؟ یا سخنان ملایم به تو خواهدگفت؟ | ۳ 3 |
Will he make many supplications unto thee? Or will he speak soft words unto thee?
| آیا با تو عهد خواهد بست یا او را برای بندگی دایمی خواهی گرفت؟ | ۴ 4 |
Will he make a covenant with thee, That thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?
| آیا با او مثل گنجشک بازی توانی کرد؟ یا او را برای کنیزان خود توانی بست؟ | ۵ 5 |
Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
| آیا جماعت (صیادان ) از اوداد و ستد خواهند کرد؟ یا او را در میان تاجران تقسیم خواهند نمود؟ | ۶ 6 |
Will the bands [of fishermen] make traffic of him? Will they part him among the merchants?
| آیا پوست او را با نیزه هامملو توانی کرد؟ یا سرش را با خطافهای ماهی گیران؟ | ۷ 7 |
Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons, Or his head with fish-spears?
| اگر دست خود را بر او بگذاری جنگ را به یاد خواهی داشت و دیگر نخواهی کرد. | ۸ 8 |
Lay thy hand upon him; Remember the battle, and do so no more.
| اینک امید به او باطل است. آیا از رویتش نیز آدمی به روی درافکنده نمی شود؟ | ۹ 9 |
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: Will not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
| کسی اینقدر متهور نیست که او را برانگیزاند. پس کیست که در حضور من بایستد؟ | ۱۰ 10 |
None is so fierce that he dare stir him up; Who then is he that can stand before me?
| کیست که سبقت جسته، چیزی به من داده، تابه او رد نمایم؟ هرچه زیر آسمان است از آن من می‌باشد. | ۱۱ 11 |
Who hath first given unto me, that I should repay him? [Whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
| «درباره اعضایش خاموش نخواهم شد و ازجبروت و جمال ترکیب او خبر خواهم داد. | ۱۲ 12 |
I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, Nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.
| کیست که روی لباس او را باز تواند نمود؟ وکیست که در میان دو صف دندانش داخل شود؟ | ۱۳ 13 |
Who can strip off his outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws?
| کیست که درهای چهره‌اش را بگشاید؟ دایره دندانهایش هولناک است. | ۱۴ 14 |
Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
| سپرهای زورآورش فخر او می‌باشد، با مهر محکم وصل شده است. | ۱۵ 15 |
[His] strong scales are [his] pride, Shut up together [as with] a close seal.
| با یکدیگر چنان چسبیده‌اند که باد از میان آنهانمی گذرد. | ۱۶ 16 |
One is so near to another, That no air can come between them.
| با همدیگر چنان وصل شده‌اند و باهم ملتصقند که جدا نمی شوند. | ۱۷ 17 |
They are joined one to another; They stick together, so that they cannot be sundered.
| از عطسه های او نور ساطع می‌گردد و چشمان او مثل پلکهای فجر است. | ۱۸ 18 |
His sneezings flash forth light, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
| از دهانش مشعلها بیرون می‌آید وشعله های آتش برمی جهد. | ۱۹ 19 |
Out of his mouth go burning torches, And sparks of fire leap forth.
| از بینی های او دودبرمی آید مثل دیگ جوشنده و پاتیل. | ۲۰ 20 |
Out of his nostrils a smoke goeth, As of a boiling pot and [burning] rushes.
| از نفس او اخگرها افروخته می‌شود و از دهانش شعله بیرون می‌آید. | ۲۱ 21 |
His breath kindleth coals, And a flame goeth forth from his mouth.
| بر گردنش قوت نشیمن دارد، وهیبت پیش رویش رقص می‌نماید. | ۲۲ 22 |
In his neck abideth strength, And terror danceth before him.
| طبقات گوشت او بهم چسبیده است، و بر وی مستحکم است که متحرک نمی شود. | ۲۳ 23 |
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: They are firm upon him; they cannot be moved.
| دلش مثل سنگ مستحکم است، و مانند سنگ زیرین آسیا محکم می‌باشد. | ۲۴ 24 |
His heart is as firm as a stone; Yea, firm as the nether millstone.
| چون او برمی خیزد نیرومندان هراسان می‌شوند، و از خوف بی‌خود می‌گردند. | ۲۵ 25 |
When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid: By reason of consternation they are beside themselves.
| اگر شمشیر به او انداخته شود اثر نمی کند، و نه نیزه و نه مزراق و نه تیر. | ۲۶ 26 |
If one lay at him with the sword, it cannot avail; Nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.
| آهن را مثل کاه می‌شمارد و برنج را مانند چوب پوسیده. | ۲۷ 27 |
He counteth iron as straw, [And] brass as rotten wood.
| تیرهای کمان او را فرار نمی دهد و سنگهای فلاخن نزد او به کاه مبدل می‌شود. | ۲۸ 28 |
The arrow cannot make him flee: Sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.
| عمود مثل کاه شمرده می‌شود و بر حرکت مزراق می‌خندد. | ۲۹ 29 |
Clubs are counted as stubble: He laugheth at the rushing of the javelin.
| در زیرش پاره های سفال تیز است و گردون پرمیخ را بر گل پهن می‌کند. | ۳۰ 30 |
His underparts are [like] sharp potsherds: He spreadeth [as it were] a threshing-wain upon the mire.
| لجه را مثل دیگ می‌جوشاند و دریا را مانند پاتیلچه عطاران می‌گرداند. | ۳۱ 31 |
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: He maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
| راه را در عقب خویش تابان می‌سازد به نوعی که لجه را سفیدمو گمان می‌برند. | ۳۲ 32 |
He maketh a path to shine after him; One would think the deep to be hoary.
| بر روی خاک نظیر او نیست، که بدون خوف آفریده شده باشد. | ۳۳ 33 |
Upon earth there is not his like, That is made without fear.
| بر هرچیز بلند نظر می‌افکندو بر جمیع حیوانات سرکش پادشاه است.» | ۳۴ 34 |
He beholdeth everything that is high: He is king over all the sons of pride.
