ایّوب 31

۱ 1 «با چشمان خود عهد بسته‌ام، پس چگونه بر دوشیزه‌ای نظر افکنم؟

I Made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

۲ 2 زیراقسمت خدا از اعلی چیست؟ و نصیب قادرمطلق، از اعلی علیین؟

For what portion of God [is there] from above? and [what] inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

۳ 3 آیا آن برای شریران هلاکت نیست؟ و به جهت عاملان بدی مصیبت نی؟

[Is] not destruction to the wicked? and a strange [punishment] to the workers of iniquity?

۴ 4 آیا او راههای مرا نمی بیند؟ و جمیع قدمهایم را نمی شمارد؟

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

۵ 5 اگر با دروغ راه می‌رفتم یا پایهایم با فریب می‌شتابید،

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

۶ 6 مرا به میزان عدالت بسنجد، تا خدا کاملیت مرا بداند.

Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity.

۷ 7 اگرقدمهایم از طریق آواره گردیده، و قلبم در‌پی چشمانم رفته، و لکه‌ای به‌دستهایم چسبیده باشد،

If my step hath turned out of the way, and my heart walked after my eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to my hands;

۸ 8 پس من کشت کنم و دیگری بخورد، ومحصول من از ریشه‌کنده شود.

[Then] let me sow, and let another eat; yes, let my offspring be rooted out.

۹ 9 اگر قلبم به زنی فریفته شده، یا نزد در همسایه خود در کمین نشسته باشم،

If my heart hath been deceived by a woman, or [if] I have laid wait at my neighbor's door;

۱۰ 10 پس زن من برای شخصی دیگرآسیا کند، و دیگران بر او خم شوند.

[Then] let my wife grind to another, and let others bow down upon her.

۱۱ 11 زیرا که آن قباحت می‌بود و تقصیری سزاوار حکم داوران.

For this [is] a hainous crime; yea, it [is] an iniquity [to be punished by] the judges.

۱۲ 12 چونکه این آتشی می‌بود که تا ابدون می‌سوزانید، و تمامی محصول مرا از ریشه می‌کند.

For it [is] a fire [that] consumeth to destruction, and would root out all my increase.

۱۳ 13 اگر دعوی بنده و کنیز خود را ردمی کردم، هنگامی که بر من مدعی می‌شدند.

If I despised the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant, when they contended with me;

۱۴ 14 پس چون خدا به ضد من برخیزد چه خواهم کرد؟ و هنگامی که تفتیش نماید به او چه جواب خواهم داد؟

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

۱۵ 15 آیا آن کس که مرا در رحم آفریداو را نیز نیافرید؟ و آیا کس واحد، ما را در رحم نسرشت؟

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

۱۶ 16 «اگر مراد مسکینان را از ایشان منع نموده باشم، و چشمان بیوه‌زنان را تار گردانیده،

If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

۱۷ 17 اگرلقمه خود را به تنهایی خورده باشم، و یتیم از آن تناول ننموده،

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten of it;

۱۸ 18 و حال آنکه او از جوانیم با من مثل پدر پرورش می‌یافت، و از بطن مادرم بیوه‌زن را رهبری می‌نمودم.

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as [with] a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb; )

۱۹ 19 اگر کسی را از برهنگی هلاک دیده باشم، و مسکین را بدون پوشش،

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

۲۰ 20 اگر کمرهای او مرا برکت نداده باشد، و از پشم گوسفندان من گرم نشده،

If his loins have not blessed me, and [if] he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

۲۱ 21 اگر دست خود را بر یتیم بلند کرده باشم، هنگامی که اعانت خود را دردروازه می‌دیدم،

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

۲۲ 22 پس بازوی من از کتفم بیفتد، و ساعدم از قلم آن شکسته شود.

[Then] let my arm fall from my shoulder-blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.

۲۳ 23 زیرا که هلاکت از خدا برای من ترس می‌بود و به‌سبب کبریایی او توانایی نداشتم.

For destruction [from] God [was] a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

۲۴ 24 اگر طلا را امیدخود می‌ساختم و به زر خالص می‌گفتم تو اعتمادمن هستی،

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence;

۲۵ 25 اگر از فراوانی دولت خویش شادی می‌نمودم، و از اینکه دست من بسیار کسب نموده بود،

If I have rejoiced because my wealth [was] great, and because my hand had gained much;

۲۶ 26 اگر چون آفتاب می‌تابید بر آن نظرمی کردم و بر ماه، هنگامی که با درخشندگی سیرمی کرد.

If I have beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking [in] brightness;

۲۷ 27 و دل من خفیه فریفته می‌شد و دهانم دستم را می‌بوسید.

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

۲۸ 28 این نیز گناهی مستوجب قصاص می‌بود زیرا خدای متعال را منکرمی شدم.

This also [were] an iniquity [to be punished by] the judge: for I should have denied the God [that is] above.

۲۹ 29 اگر از مصیبت دشمن خود شادی می‌کردم یا حینی که بلا به او عارض می‌شد وجدمی نمودم،

If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or have lifted up myself when evil found him:

۳۰ 30 و حال آنکه زبان خود را از گناه ورزیدن بازداشته، بر جان او لعنت را سوال ننمودم.

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

۳۱ 31 اگر اهل خیمه من نمی گفتند: کیست که از گوشت او سیر نشده باشد،

If the men of my tabernacle have not said, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

۳۲ 32 غریب درکوچه شب را به‌سر نمی برد و در خود را به روی مسافر می‌گشودم.

The stranger did not lodge in the street: [but] I opened my doors to the traveler.

۳۳ 33 اگر مثل آدم، تقصیر خود رامی پوشانیدم و عصیان خویش را در سینه خودمخفی می‌ساختم،

If I have covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom:

۳۴ 34 از این جهت که از انبوه کثیرمی ترسیدم و اهانت قبایل مرا هراسان می‌ساخت، پس ساکت مانده، از در خود بیرون نمی رفتم.

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, [and] went not out of the door?

۳۵ 35 کاش کسی بود که مرا می‌شنید، اینک امضای من حاضر است. پس قادر مطلق مرا جواب دهد. و اینک کتابتی که مدعی من نوشته است.

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire [is], [that] the Almighty would answer me, and [that] my adversary had written a book.

۳۶ 36 یقین که آن را بر دوش خود برمی داشتم و مثل تاج برخود می‌بستم.

Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, [and] bind it [as] a crown to me.

۳۷ 37 شماره قدمهای خود را برای اوبیان می‌کردم و مثل امیری به او تقرب می‌جستم.

I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.

۳۸ 38 اگر زمین من بر من فریاد می‌کرد و مرزهایش با هم گریه می‌کردند،

If my land crieth against me, or its furrows likewise complain;

۳۹ 39 اگر محصولاتش را بدون قیمت می‌خوردم و جان مالکانش را تلف می‌نمودم،

If I have eaten the fruits of it without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life:

۴۰ 40 پس خارها به عوض گندم وکرکاس به عوض جو بروید.» سخنان ایوب تمام شد.

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
