یعقوب 4

۱ 1 از کجا در میان شما جنگها و از کجا نزاعهاپدید می‌آید؟ آیا نه از لذت های شما که دراعضای شما جنگ می‌کند؟

Where do conflicts and quarrels among you come from? Do they not come from your passions that war in your members?

۲ 2 طمع می‌ورزید وندارید؛ می‌کشید و حسد می‌نمایید و نمی توانیدبه چنگ آرید؛ و جنگ و جدال می‌کنید و نداریداز این جهت که سوال نمی کنید.

You lust, and do not have. You kill, covet, and cannot obtain. You fight and make war. You do not have, because you do not ask.

۳ 3 و سوال می‌کنیدو نمی یابید، از اینرو که به نیت بد سوال می‌کنید تادر لذات خود صرف نمایید.

You ask, and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.

۴ 4 ‌ای زانیات، آیا نمی دانید که دوستی دنیا، دشمنی خداست؟ پس هرکه می‌خواهد دوست دنیا باشد، دشمن خدا گردد.

You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

۵ 5 آیا گمان دارید که کتاب عبث می‌گوید روحی که او را در ما ساکن کرده است، تا به غیرت بر ما اشتیاق دارد؟

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Ruach which he made to dwell in us yearns jealously"?

۶ 6 لیکن او فیض زیاده می‌بخشد. بنابراین می‌گوید: «خدامتکبران را مخالفت می‌کند، اما فروتنان را فیض می‌بخشد.»

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

۷ 7 پس خدا را اطاعت نمایید و با ابلیس مقاومت کنید تا از شما بگریزد.

Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

۸ 8 و به خدا تقرب جویید تا به شما نزدیکی نماید. دستهای خود راطاهر سازید، ای گناهکاران و دلهای خود را پاک کنید، ای دودلان.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

۹ 9 خود را خوار سازید و ناله وگریه نمایید و خنده شما به ماتم و خوشی شما به غم مبدل شود.

Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.

۱۰ 10 در حضور خدا فروتنی کنید تاشما را سرافراز فرماید.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

۱۱ 11 ‌ای برادران، یکدیگررا ناسزا مگویید زیرا هرکه برادر خود را ناسزاگوید و بر او حکم کند، شریعت را ناسزا گفته و برشریعت حکم کرده باشد. لکن اگر بر شریعت حکم کنی، عامل شریعت نیستی بلکه داورهستی.

Do not speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

۱۲ 12 صاحب شریعت و داور، یکی است که بر رهانیدن و هلاک کردن قادر می‌باشد. پس تو کیستی که بر همسایه خود داوری می‌کنی؟

Only one is the lawgiver and judge, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

۱۳ 13 هان، ای کسانی که می‌گویید: «امروز و فردابه فلان شهر خواهیم رفت و در آنجا یک سال بسرخواهیم برد و تجارت خواهیم کرد و نفع خواهیم برد»،

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow let us go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit."

۱۴ 14 و حال آنکه نمی دانید که فردا چه می‌شود؛ از آنرو که حیات شما چیست؟ مگربخاری نیستید که اندک زمانی ظاهر است و بعدناپدید می‌شود؟

Whereas you do not know what tomorrow will be like. What is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

۱۵ 15 به عوض آنکه باید گفت که «اگر خدا بخواهد، زنده می‌مانیم و چنین و چنان می‌کنیم.»

For you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that."

۱۶ 16 اما الحال به عجب خود فخرمی کنید و هر چنین فخر بد است.

But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.

۱۷ 17 پس هرکه نیکویی‌کردن بداند و بعمل نیاورد، او را گناه است.

To him therefore who knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.
