| من در دل خود گفتم: الان بیا تا تو را به عیش و عشرت بیازمایم؛ پس سعادتمندی راملاحظه نما. و اینک آن نیز بطالت بود. | ۱ 1 |

| درباره خنده گفتم که مجنون است و درباره شادمانی که چه می‌کند. | ۲ 2 |
to/for laughter to say to boast: rave madly and to/for joy what? this to make: do
| در دل خود غور کردم که بدن خود را با شراب بپرورم، با آنکه دل من مرا به حکمت (ارشاد نماید) و حماقت را بدست آورم تا ببینم که برای بنی آدم چه چیز نیکو است که آن را زیرآسمان در تمامی ایام عمر خود به عمل آورند. | ۳ 3 |

| کارهای عظیم برای خود کردم و خانه‌ها برای خود ساختم و تاکستانها به جهت خود غرس نمودم. | ۴ 4 |
to magnify deed: work my to build to/for me house: home to plant to/for me vineyard
| باغها و فردوسها به جهت خود ساختم ودر آنها هر قسم درخت میوه دار غرس نمودم. | ۵ 5 |
to make to/for me garden and park and to plant in/on/with them tree all fruit
| حوضهای آب برای خود ساختم تا درختستانی را که در آن درختان بزرگ می‌شود، آبیاری نمایم. | ۶ 6 |
to make to/for me pool water to/for to water: watering from them wood to spring tree
| غلامان و کنیزان خریدم و خانه زادان داشتم ومرا نیز بیشتر از همه کسانی که قبل از من دراورشلیم بودند اموال از رمه و گله بود. | ۷ 7 |
to buy servant/slave and maidservant and son: child house: home to be to/for me also livestock cattle and flock to multiply to be to/for me from all which/that to be to/for face: before my in/on/with Jerusalem
| نقره وطلا و اموال خاصه پادشاهان و کشورها نیز برای خود جمع کردم؛ و مغنیان و مغنیات و لذات بنی آدم یعنی بانو و بانوان به جهت خود گرفتم. | ۸ 8 |
to gather to/for me also silver: money and gold and possession king and [the] province to make: offer to/for me to sing and to sing and luxury son: child [the] man concubine and concubine
| پس بزرگ شدم و بر تمامی کسانی که قبل از من در اورشلیم بودند برتری یافتم و حکمتم نیز با من برقرار ماند، | ۹ 9 |
and to magnify and to add from all which/that to be to/for face: before my in/on/with Jerusalem also wisdom my to stand: stand to/for me
| و هر‌چه چشمانم آرزو می‌کرد ازآنها دریغ نداشتم، و دل خود را از هیچ خوشی بازنداشتم زیرا دلم در هر محنت من شادی می‌نمودو نصیب من از تمامی مشقتم همین بود. | ۱۰ 10 |

| پس به تمامی کارهایی که دستهایم کرده بود و به مشقتی که در عمل نمودن کشیده بودم نگریستم؛ و اینک تمامی آن بطالت و در‌پی باد زحمت کشیدن بود ودر زیر آفتاب هیچ منفعت نبود. | ۱۱ 11 |

| پس توجه نمودم تا حکمت و حماقت وجهالت را ملاحظه نمایم؛ زیرا کسی‌که بعد از پادشاه بیاید چه خواهد کرد؟ مگر نه آنچه قبل ازآن کرده شده بود؟ | ۱۲ 12 |
and to turn I to/for to see: examine wisdom and madness and folly for what? [the] man which/that to come (in): come after [the] king [obj] which already to make: do him
| و دیدم که برتری حکمت برحماقت مثل برتری نور بر ظلمت است. | ۱۳ 13 |
and to see: see I which/that there advantage to/for wisdom from [the] folly like/as advantage [the] light from [the] darkness
| چشمان مرد حکیم در سر وی است اما احمق در تاریکی راه می‌رود. با وجود آن دریافت کردم که بهر دو ایشان یک واقعه خواهد رسید. | ۱۴ 14 |

| پس در دل خود تفکر کردم که چون آنچه به احمق واقع می‌شود، به من نیز واقع خواهد گردید، پس من چرا بسیار حکیم بشوم؟ و در دل خود گفتم: این نیز بطالت است، | ۱۵ 15 |
and to say I in/on/with heart my like/as accident [the] fool also I to meet me and to/for what? be wise I then advantage and to speak: speak in/on/with heart my which/that also this vanity
| زیرا که هیچ ذکری از مردحکیم و مرد احمق تا به ابد نخواهد بود. چونکه در ایام آینده همه‌چیز بالتمام فراموش خواهدشد. و مرد حکیم چگونه می‌میرد آیا نه مثل احمق؟ | ۱۶ 16 |
for nothing memorial to/for wise with [the] fool to/for forever: enduring in/on/with which/that already [the] day [the] to come (in): come [the] all to forget and how? to die [the] wise with [the] fool
| لهذا من از حیات نفرت داشتم زیرا اعمالی که زیر آفتاب کرده می‌شود، در نظر من ناپسندآمد چونکه تمام بطالت و در‌پی باد زحمت کشیدن است. | ۱۷ 17 |
and to hate [obj] [the] life for bad: harmful upon me [the] deed: work which/that to make: do underneath: under [the] sun for [the] all vanity and longing spirit: breath
| پس تمامی مشقت خود را که زیر آسمان کشیده بودم مکروه داشتم از اینجهت که باید آن را به کسی‌که بعد از من بیاید واگذارم. | ۱۸ 18 |
and to hate I [obj] all trouble my which/that I laborious underneath: under [the] sun which/that to rest him to/for man which/that to be after me
| و کیست بداند که او حکیم یا احمق خواهدبود، و معهذا بر تمامی مشقتی که من کشیدم و برحکمتی که زیر آفتاب ظاهر ساختم، او تسلطخواهد یافت. این نیز بطالت است. | ۱۹ 19 |
and who? to know wise to be or fool and to domineer in/on/with all trouble my which/that to toil and which/that be wise underneath: under [the] sun also this vanity
| پس من برگشته، دل خویش را از تمامی مشقتی که زیرآفتاب کشیده بودم مایوس ساختم. | ۲۰ 20 |
and to turn: turn I to/for to despair [obj] heart my upon all [the] trouble which/that to toil underneath: under [the] sun
| زیرامردی هست که محنت او با حکمت و معرفت وکامیابی است و آن را نصیب شخصی خواهد ساخت که در آن زحمت نکشیده باشد. این نیزبطالت و بلای عظیم است. | ۲۱ 21 |
for there man which/that trouble his in/on/with wisdom and in/on/with knowledge and in/on/with skill and to/for man which/that not to toil in/on/with him to give: put him portion his also this vanity and distress: evil many
| زیرا انسان را ازتمامی مشقت و رنج دل خود که زیر آفتاب کشیده باشد چه حاصل می‌شود؟ | ۲۲ 22 |
for what? to be to/for man in/on/with all trouble his and in/on/with striving heart his which/that he/she/it laborious underneath: under [the] sun
| زیرا تمامی روزهایش حزن و مشقتش غم است، بلکه شبانگاه نیز دلش آرامی ندارد. این هم بطالت است. | ۲۳ 23 |
for all day his pain and vexation task his also in/on/with night not to lie down: sleep heart his also this vanity he/she/it
| برای انسان نیکو نیست که بخورد و بنوشد وجان خود را از مشقتش خوش سازد. این را نیز من دیدم که از جانب خدا است. | ۲۴ 24 |
nothing pleasant in/on/with man which/that to eat and to drink and to see: enjoy [obj] soul: myself his good in/on/with trouble his also this to see: see I for from hand: power [the] God he/she/it
| زیرا کیست که بتواند بدون او بخورد یا تمتع برد؟ | ۲۵ 25 |
for who? to eat and who? to enjoy outside from me
| زیرا به کسی‌که در نظر او نیکو است، حکمت و معرفت وخوشی را می‌بخشد؛ اما به خطاکار مشقت اندوختن و ذخیره نمودن را می‌دهد تا آن را به کسی‌که در نظر خدا پسندیده است بدهد. این نیزبطالت و در‌پی باد زحمت کشیدن است. | ۲۶ 26 |
for to/for man which/that pleasant to/for face: before his to give: give wisdom and knowledge and joy and to/for to sin to give: give task to/for to gather and to/for to gather to/for to give: give to/for pleasant to/for face: before [the] God also this vanity and longing spirit: breath
