کارهای رسولان 23

۱ 1 پس پولس به اهل شورا نیک نگریسته، گفت: «ای برادران، من تا امروز با کمال ضمیر صالح در خدمت خدا رفتار کرده‌ام.»

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men, brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

۲ 2 آنگاه حنانیا، رئیس کهنه، حاضران را فرمودتا به دهانش زنند.

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him, to strike him on the mouth.

۳ 3 پولس بدو گفت: «خدا تو راخواهد زد، ای دیوار سفیدشده! تو نشسته‌ای تامرا برحسب شریعت داوری کنی و به ضدشریعت حکم به زدنم می‌کنی؟»

Then said Paul to him, God shall smite thee, [thou] whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

۴ 4 حاضران گفتند: «آیا رئیس کهنه خدا را دشنام می‌دهی؟»

And they that stood by, said, Revilest thou God's high priest?

۵ 5 پولس گفت: «ای برادران، ندانستم که رئیس کهنه است، زیرا مکتوب است حاکم قوم خود رابد مگوی.»

Then said Paul, I knew not, brethren, that he is the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

۶ 6 چون پولس فهمید که بعضی از صدوقیان وبعضی از فریسیانند، در مجلس ندا در‌داد که «ای برادران، من فریسی، پسر فریسی هستم و برای امید و قیامت مردگان از من بازپرس می‌شود.»

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

۷ 7 چون این را گفت، در میان فریسیان و صدوقیان منازعه برپا شد و جماعت دو فرقه شدند،

And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

۸ 8 زیراکه صدوقیان منکر قیامت و ملائکه و ارواح هستند لیکن فریسیان قائل به هر دو.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

۹ 9 پس غوغای عظیم برپا شد و کاتبان از فرقه فریسیان برخاسته مخاصمه نموده، می‌گفتند که «در این شخص هیچ بدی نیافته‌ایم و اگر روحی یا فرشته‌ای با او سخن گفته باشد با خدا جنگ نبایدنمود.»

And there arose a great cry: and the scribes [that were] of the Pharisees' part arose, and contended, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

۱۰ 10 و چون منازعه زیادتر می‌شد، مین باشی ترسید که مبادا پولس را بدرند. پس فرمود تاسپاهیان پایین آمده، او را از میانشان برداشته، به قلعه درآوردند.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul would have been pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring [him] into the castle.

۱۱ 11 و در شب همان روز خداوند نزد او آمده، گفت: «ای پولس خاطر جمع باش زیرا چنانکه دراورشلیم در حق من شهادت دادی، همچنین بایددر روم نیز شهادت دهی.»

And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified concerning me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear testimony also at Rome.

۱۲ 12 و چون روز شد، یهودیان با یکدیگر عهدبسته، بر خویشتن لعن کردند که تا پولس رانکشند، نخورند و ننوشند.

And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying, that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

۱۳ 13 و آنانی که درباره این، همقسم شدند، زیاده از چهل نفر بودند.

And they were more than forty who had made this conspiracy.

۱۴ 14 اینها نزد روسای کهنه و مشایخ رفته، گفتند: «بر خویشتن لعنت سخت کردیم که تا پولس رانکشیم چیزی نچشیم.

And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

۱۵ 15 پس الان شما با اهل شورا، مین باشی را اعلام کنید که او را نزد شمابیاورد که گویا اراده دارید در احوال او نیکوترتحقیق نمایید؛ و ما حاضر هستیم که قبل ازرسیدنش او را بکشیم.»

Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain, that he bring him down to you to-morrow, as though ye would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, before he shall come near, are ready to kill him.

۱۶ 16 اما خواهرزاده پولس از کمین ایشان اطلاع یافته، رفت و به قلعه درآمده، پولس را آگاهانید.

And when the son of Paul's sister heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

۱۷ 17 پولس یکی ازیوزباشیان را طلبیده، گفت: «این جوان را نزدمین باشی ببر زیرا خبری دارد که به او بگوید.»

Then Paul called one of the centurions to [him], and said, Bring this young man to the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

۱۸ 18 پس او را برداشته، به حضور مین باشی رسانیده، گفت: «پولس زندانی مرا طلبیده، خواهش کرد که این جوان را به خدمت تو بیاورم، زیرا چیزی داردکه به تو عرض کند.»

So he took him, and brought [him] to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me to [him], and prayed me to bring this young man to thee, who hath something to say to thee.

۱۹ 19 پس مین باشی دستش راگرفته، به خلوت برد و پرسید: «چه چیز است که می خواهی به من خبر دهی؟»

Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went [with him] aside privately, and asked [him], What is that thou hast to tell me?

۲۰ 20 عرض کرد: «یهودیان متفق شده‌اند که از تو خواهش کنند تاپولس را فردا به مجلس شورا درآوری که گویااراده دارند در حق او زیادتر تفتیش نمایند.

And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee, that thou wouldst bring down Paul to-morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat concerning him more perfectly.

۲۱ 21 پس خواهش ایشان را اجابت مفرما زیرا که بیشتر از چهل نفر از ایشان در کمین وی‌اند و به سوگند عهد بسته‌اند که تا او را نکشند چیزی نخورند و نیاشامند و الان مستعد و منتظر وعده تو می‌باشند.»

But do not thou yield to them: for there are of them who lie in wait for him more than forty men, who have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now they are ready, looking for a promise from thee.

۲۲ 22 مین باشی آن جوان را مرخص فرموده، قدغن نمود که «به هیچ‌کس مگو که مرا ازاین راز مطلع ساختی.»

So the chief captain [then] let the young man depart, and charged [him], [See thou] tell no man that thou hast shown these things to me.

۲۳ 23 پس دو نفر از یوزباشیان را طلبیده، فرمودکه «دویست سپاهی و هفتاد سوار و دویست نیزه‌دار در ساعت سوم از شب حاضر سازید تا به قیصریه بروند؛

And he called to [him] two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Cesarea, and seventy horsemen, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

۲۴ 24 و مرکبی حاضر کنید تا پولس را سوار کرده، او را به سلامتی به نزد فیلکس والی برسانند.»

And provide [for them] beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring [him] safe to Felix the governor.

۲۵ 25 و نامه‌ای بدین مضمون نوشت:

And he wrote a letter after this manner:

۲۶ 26 «کلودیوس لیسیاس، به والی گرامی فیلکس سلام می‌رساند.

Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor Felix, [sendeth] greeting.

۲۷ 27 یهودیان این شخص را گرفته، قصد قتل او داشتند. پس با سپاه رفته، او را ازایشان گرفتم، چون دریافت کرده بودم که رومی است.

This man was taken by the Jews, and would have been killed by them: then I came with a body of soldiers, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

۲۸ 28 و چون خواستم بفهمم که به چه سبب بروی شکایت می‌کنند، او را به مجلس ایشان درآوردم.

And when I would have known the cause for which they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

۲۹ 29 پس یافتم که در مسائل شریعت خود از او شکایت می‌دارند، ولی هیچ شکوه‌ای مستوجب قتل یا بند نمی دارند.

Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death, or of bonds.

۳۰ 30 و چون خبریافتم که یهودیان قصد کمین سازی برای او دارند، بی‌درنگ او را نزد تو فرستادم و مدعیان او را نیزفرمودم تا در حضور تو بر او ادعا نمایندوالسلام.»

And when it was told to me that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent forthwith to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also, to say before thee what [they had] against him. Farewell.

۳۱ 31 پس سپاهیان چنانکه مامور شدند، پولس را در شب برداشته، به انتیپاتریس رسانیدند.

Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought [him] by night to Antipatris.

۳۲ 32 و بامدادان سواران را گذاشته که با او بروند، خود به قلعه برگشتند.

On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

۳۳ 33 و چون ایشان وارد قیصریه شدند، نامه را به والی سپردند و پولس را نیز نزد اوحاضر ساختند.

Who, when they came to Cesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

۳۴ 34 پس والی نامه را ملاحظه فرموده، پرسید که از کدام ولایت است. چون دانست که از قیلیقیه است،

And when the governor had read [the letter], he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that [he was] of Cilicia,

۳۵ 35 گفت: «چون مدعیان تو حاضر شوند، سخن تو را خواهم شنید.» و فرمود تا او را در سرای هیرودیس نگاه دارند.

I will hear thee, said he, when thy accusers also have come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment-hall.
