اول سموئیل 16

۱ 1 و خداوند به سموئیل گفت: «تا به کی توبرای شاول ماتم می‌گیری چونکه من اورا از سلطنت نمودن بر اسرائیل رد نمودم. پس حقه خود را از روغن پر کرده، بیا تا تو را نزد یسای بیت لحمی بفرستم، زیرا که از پسرانش پادشاهی برای خود تعیین نموده‌ام.»

And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him so as not to reign over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lechemite; for I have selected among his sons unto myself a king.

۲ 2 سموئیل گفت: «چگونه بروم. اگر شاول بشنود مرا خواهدکشت.» خداوند گفت: «گوساله‌ای همراه خود ببرو بگو که به جهت گذرانیدن قربانی برای خداوندآمده‌ام.

And Samuel said, How shall I go? if Saul should hear it, he would kill me. And the Lord said, Take a heifer with thee, and say, To sacrifice unto the Lord am I come.

۳ 3 و یسا را به قربانی دعوت نما، و من تو رااعلام می‌نمایم که چه باید بکنی، و کسی را که به تو امر نمایم برای من مسح نما.»

And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will let thee know what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto me the one whom I will say unto thee.

۴ 4 و سموئیل آنچه را که خداوند به او گفته بود بجا آورده، به بیت لحم آمد، و مشایخ شهر لرزان شده، به استقبال او آمدند، و گفتند: «آیا با سلامتی می‌آیی؟»

And Samuel did that which the Lord had spoken, and came to Beth-lechem. And the elders of the town came hastily to meet him, and said, Peace to thee at thy coming.

۵ 5 گفت: «با سلامتی به جهت قربانی گذرانیدن برای خداوند آمده‌ام، پس خود را تقدیس نموده، همراه من به قربانی بیایید.» و اویسا و پسرانش را تقدیس نموده، ایشان را به قربانی دعوت نمود.

And he said, Peace: to sacrifice unto the Lord am I come; sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.

۶ 6 و واقع شد که چون آمدند بر الیاب نظرانداخته، گفت: «یقین مسیح خداوند به حضوروی است.»

And it came to pass, when they came, that he saw Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord's anointed is [here] before him.

۷ 7 اما خداوند به سموئیل گفت: «به چهره‌اش و بلندی قامتش نظر منما زیرا او را ردکرده‌ام، چونکه خداوند مثل انسان نمی نگرد، زیرا که انسان به ظاهر می‌نگرد و خداوند به دل می‌نگرد.»

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Regard not his appearance, nor the height of his stature; because I have rejected him; for not what man looketh on; —for man looketh on the eyes, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

۸ 8 و یسا ابیناداب را خوانده، او را ازحضور سموئیل گذرانید، و او گفت: «خداوند این را نیز برنگزیده است.»

Then Jesse called Abinadab, and caused him to pass before Samuel. And he said, This one also hath the Lord not chosen.

۹ 9 و یسا شماه را گذرانید واو گفت: «خداوند این را نیز برنگزیده است.»

Then Jesse caused Shammah to pass by. And he said, This one also hath the Lord not chosen.

۱۰ 10 ویسا هفت پسر خود را از حضور سموئیل گذرانیدو سموئیل به یسا گفت: «خداوند اینها رابرنگزیده است.»

And Jesse caused seven of his sons to pass before Samuel: and Samuel said unto Jesse, The Lord hath not made choice of these.

۱۱ 11 و سموئیل به یسا گفت: «آیا پسرانت تمام شدند.» گفت: «کوچکتر هنوز باقی است و اینک او گله را می‌چراند.» و سموئیل به یسا گفت: «بفرست و او را بیاور، زیرا که تا او به اینجا نیایدنخواهیم نشست.»

And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are there not more young men? And he said, There is yet left behind the youngest, and, behold, he is feeding the flocks. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he have come hither.

۱۲ 12 پس فرستاده، او را آورد، واو سرخ رو و نیکوچشم و خوش منظر بود. وخداوند گفت: «برخاسته، او را مسح کن زیرا که همین است.»

And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, having withal handsome eyes, and being of a goodly appearance. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.

۱۳ 13 پس سموئیل حقه روغن راگرفته، او را در میان برادرانش مسح نمود، و از آن روز به بعد روح خداوند بر داود مستولی شد، وسموئیل برخاسته، به رامه رفت.

Then took Samuel the horn of oil, and anointed him from among his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came suddenly upon David from that day and forward. And Samuel then rose up, and went to Ramah.

۱۴ 14 و روح خداوند از شاول دور شد، و روح بداز جانب خداوند او را مضطرب می‌ساخت.

And the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and there troubled him an evil spirit from the Lord.

۱۵ 15 وبندگان شاول وی را گفتند: «اینک روح بد از جانب خدا تو را مضطرب می‌سازد.

And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

۱۶ 16 پس آقای ما بندگان خود را که به حضورت هستند امرفرماید تا کسی را که بر بربط نواختن ماهر باشدبجویند، و چون روح بد از جانب خدا بر تو بیایدبه‌دست خود بنوازد، و تو را نیکو خواهد شد.»

Let our Lord but say [the word], and thy servants, now before thee, will seek out a man, who is skilful as a player on the harp; and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, that thou mayest be well.

۱۷ 17 و شاول به بندگان خود گفت: «الان کسی را که به نواختن ماهر باشد برای من پیدا کرده، نزد من بیاورید.»

And Saul said unto his servants, Select for me, I pray you, a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

۱۸ 18 و یکی از خادمانش در جواب وی گفت: «اینک پسر یسای بیت لحمی را دیدم که به نواختن ماهر و صاحب شجاعت و مرد جنگ آزموده و فصیح زبان و شخص نیکو صورت است و خداوند با وی می‌باشد.»

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lechemite, who is skilful as a player, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and intelligent in speech, and a person of a good form, and the Lord is with him.

۱۹ 19 پس شاول قاصدان نزد یسا فرستاده، گفت: «پسرت داود را که با گوسفندان است، نزد من بفرست.»

Thereupon Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, who is with the flocks.

۲۰ 20 آنگاه یسا یک بار الاغ از نان و یک مشگ شراب و یک بزغاله گرفته، به‌دست پسرخود داود نزد شاول فرستاد.

And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them through David his son unto Saul.

۲۱ 21 و داود نزد شاول آمده، به حضور وی ایستاد و او وی را بسیاردوست داشت و سلاحدار او شد.

And David came to Saul, and stood before him; and he loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer.

۲۲ 22 و شاول نزدیسا فرستاده، گفت: «داود نزد من بماند زیرا که به نظرم پسند آمد.»

And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my eyes.

۲۳ 23 و واقع می‌شد هنگامی که روح بد از جانب خدا بر شاول می‌آمد که داودبربط گرفته، به‌دست خود می‌نواخت، و شاول راراحت و صحت حاصل می‌شد و روح بد از اومی رفت.

And it came to pass, when the spirit of God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand; so Saul became relieved, and he felt well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
