ਰਸੂਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਤੱਬ 17
1 ੧ ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਅਮਫ਼ਿਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਪੁਲੋਨਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਥਸਲੁਨੀਕੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਏ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਘਰ ਸੀ।
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis, and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews.
2 ੨ ਅਤੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੀਤੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ,
And Paul, as his manner was, went in to them, and on three sabbaths reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
3 ੩ ਅਤੇ ਅਰਥ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮਸੀਹ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਭੋਗਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜੀ ਉੱਠਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਮਸੀਹ ਹੈ।
Opening and alledging, that it was needful that Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach to you, is Christ.
4 ੪ ਸੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਗਤ ਯੂਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪਤਵੰਤੀ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਅਤੇ ਸੀਲਾਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਗਈਆਂ।
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas: and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5 ੫ ਪਰ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਖੁਣਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਜ਼ਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਈ ਬੁਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਭੀੜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੌਲ਼ਾ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਯਾਸੋਨ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਾਹਰ ਲਿਆਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
But the Jews who believed not, moved with envy, took to them certain vile fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city in an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
6 ੬ ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਨਾ ਲੱਭੇ ਤਾਂ ਯਾਸੋਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੌਲ਼ਾ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਖਿੱਚ ਲਿਆਏ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਲਟਾ ਪੁਲਟਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਇੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਆ ਗਏ ਹਨ!
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down, have come hither also;
7 ੭ ਯਾਸੋਨ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੈਸਰ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cesar, saying, That there is another king, [one] Jesus.
And they troubled the people, and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
And when they had taken security of Jason and of the other, they let them go.
10 ੧੦ ਪਰ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਹੀ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਅਤੇ ਸੀਲਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਿਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਏ।
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night to Berea: who coming [thither], went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 ੧੧ ਇੱਥੇ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਥਸਲੁਨੀਕੇ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਗੇ ਸਨ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਲਗਨ ਨਾਲ ਬਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ।
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12 ੧੨ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਤਵੰਤੀ ਯੂਨਾਨੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ।
Therefore many of them believed; also of honorable women who were Greeks, and of men not a few.
13 ੧੩ ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਥਸਲੁਨੀਕੇ ਦੇ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਬਰਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਮਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਡਰਾਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ।
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul, to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timothy abode there still.
15 ੧੫ ਪਰ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਅਥੇਨੈ ਤੱਕ ਲਿਆਏ, ਸੀਲਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਤਿਮੋਥਿਉਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੁਕਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ, ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੀ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ਜਲਦੀ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਜਾਣ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੁਰ ਪਏ।
And they that conducted Paul brought him to Athens: and receiving a commandment to Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 ੧੬ ਜਦੋਂ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਅਥੇਨੈ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਤਦ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਜਲ ਗਿਆ।
Now, while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
17 ੧੭ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਜ਼ ਬਜ਼ਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਸਨ, ਵਾਦ-ਵਿਵਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Therefore he disputed in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
18 ੧੮ ਅਪਿਕੂਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਤੋਇਕੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਦ-ਵਿਵਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਕਈਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਬਕਵਾਦੀ ਕੀ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕਈ ਬੋਲੇ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਾਏ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੀ ਉੱਠਣ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਖਬਰੀ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? some others, He seemeth to be a setter-forth of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.
19 ੧੯ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਅਰਿਯੁਪਗੁਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲੇ, ਕੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੁੱਛ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਹੈ?
And they took him, and brought him to Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine [is], of which thou speakest?
For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears; we would know therefore what these things mean.
21 ੨੧ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਥੇਨੀ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਨਵੀਂਆਂ-ਨਵੀਂਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਣਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਗੁਜਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
(For all the Athenians and strangers who were there, spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
22 ੨੨ ਤਾਂ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਅਰਿਯੁਪਗੁਸ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ, ਹੇ ਅਥੇਨੀਓ, ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੂਜਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars-hill, and said, [Ye] men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.
23 ੨੩ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤਾਂ ਵੇਖੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੇਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਹ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ “ਅਣਜਾਣੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਲਈ”। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬਿਨ ਜਾਣੇ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਹੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I to you.
24 ੨੪ ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਉਹ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਮੰਦਿਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
God that made the world, and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 ੨੫ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਥੋੜ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ, ਸਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 ੨੬ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੌਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਰਚਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਸਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਦਾਂ ਠਹਿਰਾਈਆਂ
And hath made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he is not far from every one of us:
28 ੨੮ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ, ਤੁਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ, ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕਵੀਸ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ ਵੀ ਹਾਂ।
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, for we are also his offspring.
29 ੨੯ ਸੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸਮਝੀਏ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਜਾਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like to gold, or silver, or stone graven by art and man's device.
30 ੩੦ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਅਣਜਾਣਪੁਣੇ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਸਭ ਥਾਂਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੋਬਾ ਕਰਨ।
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 ੩੧ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਸਚਿਆਈ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
Because he hath appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness, by [that] man whom he hath ordained: [of which] he hath given assurance to all [men], in that he hath raised him from the dead.
32 ੩੨ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀ ਉੱਠਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਈ ਮਖ਼ੌਲ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਪਰ ਕੁਝ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਫੇਰ ਸੁਣਾਂਗੇ।
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again concerning this [matter].
So Paul departed from among them.
34 ੩੪ ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕਈ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿਯਾਨੀਸਿਯੁਸ ਅਰਿਯੁਪਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਮਰਿਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਔਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਨ।
But certain men adhered to him, and believed: among whom [was] Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
