< Luqaas 18 >

1 Yesuusis akka isaan yeroo hunda kadhachuu qabanii fi akka isaan abdii hin kutanne isaan barsiisuuf jedhee fakkeenya tokko barattoota isaatti hime.
Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.
2 Innis akkana jedhe; “Magaalaa tokko keessa abbaa murtii kan Waaqa hin sodaanne, namas kan hin kabajne tokkotu ture.
“There was,” he said, “in a certain town a judge, who had no fear of God nor regard for man.
3 Haati hiyyeessaa tokkos magaalaa sana keessa turte; isheenis, ‘Diina koo irratti murtii qajeelaa naa kenni’ jettee isatti deddeebiʼaa turte.
In the same town there was a widow who went to him again and again, and said ‘Grant me justice against my opponent.’
4 “Innis yeroo gabaabaaf didee ture; ergasii garuu akkana jedhee garaa isaatti yaade; ‘Ani yoon Waaqa hin sodaanne illee, yoon namas hin kabajne illee,
For a time the judge refused, but afterwards he said to himself ‘Although I am without fear of God or regard for man,
5 sababii niitiin kun deddeebitee na rakkiftuuf murtii qajeelaa nan kennaaf; yoo kanaa achii deddeebitee na dadhabsiifti.’”
yet, as this widow is so troublesome, I will grant her justice, to stop her from plaguing me with her endless visits.’”
6 Gooftaanis akkana jedhe; “Egaa waan abbichii murtii dabaan sun jedhu dhagaʼaa;
Then the Master added: “Listen to what this iniquitous judge says!
7 Waaqni immoo filatamtoota isaa warra halkanii guyyaa gara isaatti iyyataniif murtii qajeelaa hin kennuu? Isaan duraa tursaa ree?
And God — will not he see that his own People, who cry to him night and day, have justice done them — though he holds his hand?
8 Ani isinittin hima; inni dafee murtii qajeelaa kennaaf; garuu Ilmi Namaa gaafa dhufu lafa irratti amantii ni argataa?”
He will, I tell you, have justice done them, and that soon! Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
9 Yesuusis namoota qajeelummaa ofiitti amananii warra kaan immoo tuffatanitti akkana jedhee fakkeenya kana hime.
Another time, speaking to people who were satisfied that they were religious, and who regarded every one else with scorn, Jesus told this parable —
10 “Namoonni lama Waaqa kadhachuuf gara mana qulqullummaatti ol baʼan; isaanis Fariisicha tokkoo fi nama qaraxa walitti qabu tokko turan.
“Two men went up into the Temple Courts to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax-gatherer.
11 Fariisichi kaʼee dhaabatee, waaʼee mataa isaa akkana jedhee kadhate; ‘Yaa Waaqayyo, ani akka namoota kaanii jechuunis akka saamtotaa, jalʼootaa fi sagaagaltootaa keessumattuu waan akka namicha qaraxa walitti qabu kanaa hin taʼiniif sin galateeffadha.
The Pharisee stood forward and began praying to himself in this way — ‘O God, I thank thee that I am not like other men — thieves, rogues, adulterers — or even like this tax-gatherer.
12 Ani torbanitti yeroo lama nan sooma; waanan argadhu hundumaa irraas harka kudhan keessaa tokko nan kenna.’
I fast twice a week, and give a tenth of everything I get to God.’
13 “Namichi qaraxa walitti qabu sun garuu fagoo dhaabate, qoma isaa dhadhaʼaa, ‘Yaa Waaqayyo, ani nama cubbamaadhaatii naa naʼi!’ jedhe malee ija isaatiin illee ol jedhee gara samii hin ilaalle.
Meanwhile the tax-gatherer stood at a distance, not venturing even ‘to raise his eyes to Heaven’; but he kept striking his breast and saying ‘O God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14 “Ani isinittin hima; namichi kun namicha duraa irra fuula Waaqaa duratti qajeelaa taʼee mana isaatti gale. Namni ol of qabu hundinuu gad qabamaatii; namni gad of qabu garuu ol qabama.”
This man, I tell you, went home pardoned, rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, while every one who humbles himself shall be exalted.”
15 Namoonni akka inni harka isaan irra kaaʼuuf daaʼimmanis Yesuusitti fidaa turan. Barattoonni garuu yommuu waan kana arganitti isaan ifatan.
Some of the people were bringing even their babies to Jesus, for him to touch them; but, when the disciples saw it, they began to find fault with those who had brought them.
16 Yesuus garuu ijoollee sana ofitti waamee akkana jedhe; “Ijoolleen xixinnoon gara koo haa dhufaniitii hin dhowwinaa; mootummaan Waaqaa kan warra akkanaatii.
Jesus, however, called the little children to him. “Let the little children come to me,” he said, “and do not hinder them; for it is to the childlike that the Kingdom of God belongs.
17 Ani dhuguman isinitti hima; namni akkuma ijoolleetti mootummaa Waaqaa hin simanne kam iyyuu gonkumaa itti hin galu.”
I tell you, unless a man receives the Kingdom of God like a child, he will not enter it at all.”
18 Bulchaan tokko, “Yaa Barsiisaa gaarii, ani jireenya bara baraa dhaaluuf maal gochuun qaba?” jedhee isa gaafate. (aiōnios g166)
And one of the Presidents asked Jesus this question — “Good Teacher, what must I do if I am to gain Immortal Life?” (aiōnios g166)
19 Yesuusis akkana jedhee deebise; “Ati maaliif gaarii naan jetta? Waaqa tokkicha malee gaariin hin jiru.
“Why do you call me good?” answered Jesus. “No one is good but God.
20 Ati ajajawwan ni beekta; ‘Hin ejjin; hin ajjeesin; hin hatin; sobaan dhugaa hin baʼin; abbaa keetii fi haadha keetiif ulfina kenni.’”
You know the commandments — ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not say what is false about others, Honour thy father and thy mother.’”
21 Namichis, “Ani ijoollummaa kootii jalqabee ajajawwan kanneen hunda eegeera” jedhe.
“I have observed all these,” he replied, “from childhood.”
22 Yesuusis yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti, “Amma illee waan tokkotu si duraa hirʼata; waan qabdu hunda gurgurii hiyyeeyyiif kenni; samii keessatti badhaadhummaa ni qabaattaa. Ergasii kottuu na duukaa buʼi” jedheen.
Hearing this, Jesus said to him: “There is one thing still lacking in you; sell everything that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have wealth in Heaven; then come and follow me.”
23 Inni yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti baayʼee gadde; akka malee sooressa tureetii.
But the man became greatly distressed on hearing this, for he was extremely rich.
24 Yesuusis isa ilaalee akkana jedhe; “Mootummaa Waaqaatti galuun sooreyyiif akkam rakkisaa dha!
Seeing this, Jesus said to his disciples: “How hard it is for men of wealth to enter the Kingdom of God!
25 Dhugumaan namni sooressi mootummaa Waaqaatti galuu irra qaawwa lilmoo keessa baʼuutu gaalaaf salphata.”
It is easier, indeed, for a camel to get through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God!”
26 Warri waan kana dhagaʼanis, “Yoos eenyutu fayyuu dandaʼa ree?” jedhanii gaafatan.
“Then who can be saved?” asked those who heard this.
27 Yesuusis, “Wanni namaaf hin dandaʼamne, Waaqaaf ni dandaʼama” jedhee deebise.
But Jesus said: “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”
28 Phexrosis, “Kunoo, nu waan qabnu hunda dhiifnee si duukaa buuneerra” jedheen.
“But we,” said Peter, “we left what belonged to us and followed you.”
29 Yesuus immoo akkana isaaniin jedhe; “Ani dhuguman isinitti hima; namni sababii mootummaa Waaqaatiif jedhee mana yookaan niitii yookaan obboloota yookaan haadhaa fi abbaa yookaan ijoollee dhiisee,
“I tell you,” he answered, “that there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, on account of the Kingdom of God,
30 bara kana keessa dachaa baayʼee, bara dhufuuf jiru keessa immoo jireenya bara baraa utuu hin argatin hafu tokko iyyuu hin jiru.” (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
who will not receive many times as much in the present, and in the age that is coming Immortal Life.” (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
31 Yesuus warra kudha lamaan kophaatti baasee akkana jedheen; “Kunoo nu Yerusaalemitti ol baʼaa jirra; wanni raajonni waaʼee Ilma Namaa barreessan hundinuus ni raawwatama.
Gathering the Twelve round him, Jesus said to them: “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem; and there everything that is written in the Prophets will be done to the Son of Man.
32 Inni dabarfamee Namoota Ormaatti ni kennama. Isaanis isatti qoosu; isa arrabsu; isatti tufu; isa garafu; isa ajjeesus.
For he will be given up to the Gentiles, mocked, insulted and spat upon;
33 Innis guyyaa sadaffaatti duʼaa ni kaʼa.”
they will scourge him, and then put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.”
34 Barattoonni garuu waan kana hunda keessaa tokko illee hin hubanne; hiikkaan isaas isaan duraa dhokfamee ture. Inni maal akka dubbachaa tures isaaniif hin galle.
The Apostles did not comprehend any of this; his meaning was unintelligible to them, and they did not understand what he was saying.
35 Yeroo Yesuus Yerikootti dhiʼaatetti, namichi jaamaan tokko qarqara karaa taaʼee kadhachaa ture.
As Jesus was getting near Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road-side, begging.
36 Innis akka tuunni namootaa karaa sana darbaa jiru dhageenyaan, waan taʼaa ture gaafate.
Hearing a crowd going by, the man asked what was the matter;
37 Isaanis, “Yesuus nama Naazreetitu asiin darbaa jira” jedhanii isatti himan.
and, when people told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing,
38 Innis, “Yesuus, yaa ilma Daawit, na maari!” jedhee iyye.
he shouted out: “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me!”
39 Namoonni fuula dura deemaa turanis akka inni calʼisuuf isa ifatan; inni garuu, “Yaa ilma Daawit na maari!” jedhee ittuma caalchisee iyye.
Those who were in front kept telling him to be quiet, but he continued to call out the louder: “Son of David, take pity on me!”
40 Yesuusis dhaabatee akka isaan namicha gara isaa fidan ajaje. Yommuu inni gara isaatti dhiʼaatetti Yesuus akkana jedhee isa gaafate;
Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. And, when he had come close up to him, Jesus asked him:
41 “Akka ani maal siif godhu barbaadda?” Namichis, “Yaa Gooftaa, ani arguun barbaada” jedhee deebise.
“What do you want me to do for you?” “Master,” he said, “I want to recover my sight.”
42 Yesuusis, “Argi; amantiin kee si fayyiseeraa” jedheen.
And Jesus said: “Recover your sight, your faith has delivered you.”
43 Innis yeruma sana argee Waaqa jajachaa Yesuus duukaa buʼe. Namoonni hundinuus yommuu waan kana arganitti Waaqa jajan.
Instantly he recovered his sight, and began to follow Jesus, praising God. And all the people, on seeing it, gave glory to God.
