1 Til songmeisteren, etter Gittit; av Asaf. Syng med fagnad for Gud, vår styrke! Ropa med gleda for Jakobs Gud!

For the end, a Psalm for Asaph, concerning the wine-presses. Rejoice ye in God our helper; shout aloud to the God of Jacob.

2 Set i med song, og lat trumma høyrast, den væne cither med harpa!

Take a psalm, and produce the timbrel, the pleasant psaltery with the harp.

3 Blås i lur ved nymåne, ved fullmåne på vår høgtidsdag!

Blow the trumpet at the new moon, in the glorious day of your feast.

4 For det er ei lov for Israel, ein rett for Jakobs Gud.

For [this] is an ordinance for Israel, and a statute of the God of Jacob.

5 Han sette det til eit vitnemål i Josef då han drog ut gjenom Egyptarland. - Eit mål som eg ikkje kjende, høyrde eg:

He made it [to be] a testimony in Joseph, when he came forth out of the land of Egypt: he heard a language which he understood not.

6 «Eg løyste hans oksl frå byrdi, hans hender vart frie frå berekorgi.

He removed his back from burdens: his hands slaved in making the baskets.

7 I trengsla ropa du, og eg fria deg ut, eg svara deg, løynd i toresky, eg prøvde deg ved Meribavatni. (Sela)

Thou didst call upon me in trouble, and I delivered thee; I heard thee in the secret place of the storm: I proved thee at the water of Strife. (Pause)

8 Høyr, mitt folk, so vil eg vitna for deg! Israel, gjev du vilde høyra på meg!

Hear, my people, and I will speak to thee, O Israel; and I will testify to thee: if thou wilt hearken to me;

9 Det skal ikkje finnast nokon annan gud hjå deg, og du skal ikkje tilbeda ein framand gud.

there shall be no new god in thee; neither shalt thou worship a strange god.

10 Eg er Herren, din Gud, som førde deg upp frå Egyptarland, lat munnen vidt upp, at eg kann fylla honom!

For I am the Lord thy God, that brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 Men folket mitt høyrde ikkje på mi røyst, og Israel vilde ikkje lyda meg.

But my people hearkened not to my voice; and Israel gave no heed to me.

12 So let eg deim fara med sitt harde hjarta, at dei kunde ganga i sine eigne råder.

So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts: they will go on in their own ways.

13 Gjev mitt folk vilde høyra på meg, gjev Israel vilde vandra på mine vegar!

If my people had hearkened to me, if Israel had walked in my ways,

14 Snart skulde eg då bøygja deira fiendar, eg skulde venda mi hand imot deira motstandarar.

I should have put down their enemies very quickly, and should have laid my hand upon those that afflicted them.

15 Dei som hatar Herren, skulde høla honom, og deira tid skulde vara æveleg.

The Lord's enemies [should have] lied to him: but their time shall be for ever.

16 Og eg skulde føda honom med den beste kveite, og frå berget skulde eg metta deg med honning.»

And he fed them with the fat of wheat; and satisfied them with honey out of the rock.
