Jonas 2
1 Og Jona bad til Herren, sin Gud, frå buken åt fisken;
And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the whale,
2 han sagde: «Eg ropa til Herren i mi naud, og han svara meg. Frå helheims buk ropa eg, og du høyrde mi røyst. (Sheol h7585)
and said, I cried in my affliction to the Lord my God, and he hearkened to me, [even] to my cry out of the belly of hell: thou heardest my voice. (Sheol h7585)
3 Du kasta meg i djupet, midt i havet, og straumar kringsette meg, alle dine bylgjor og brot gjekk yver meg.
Thou didst cast me into the depths of the heart of the sea, and the floods compassed me: all thy billows and thy waves have passed upon me.
4 Eg tenkte då: «Burt frå dine augo er eg støytt. Like vel, ditt heilage tempel skal eg atter få sjå.»
And I said, I am cast out of thy presence: shall I indeed look again toward thy holy temple?
5 Vatni kringa seg um meg like til sjæli. Djupet kringsette meg; tang sveipte seg um hovudet mitt.
Water was poured around me to the soul: the lowest deep compassed me, my head went down
6 Like til bergbotnarne sokk eg ned. Slåerne til jordi stengdest bak meg for alltid. Men du førde mitt liv upp or gravi, Herre, min Gud!
to the clefts of the mountains; I went down into the earth, whose bars are the everlasting barriers: yet, O Lord my God, let my ruined life be restored.
7 Då mi sjæl ormegtast i meg, kom eg Herren i hug, og mi bøn kom til deg i ditt heilage tempel.
When my soul was failing me, I remembered the Lord; and may my prayer come to thee into thy holy temple.
8 Dei som tek vare på tome avgudar, gjeng frå si miskunn.
They that observe vanities and lies have forsaken their own mercy.
9 Men med lovsongs tonar vil eg ofra til deg, det eg lova, vil eg halda. Hjå Herren er frelsa!»
But I will sacrifice to thee with the voice of praise and thanksgiving: all that I have vowed I will pay to thee, the Lord of [my] salvation.
10 Då baud Herren fisken, og han spydde Jona upp på land.
And the whale was commanded by the Lord, and it cast up Jonas on the dry [land].
