Esaias 39

1 Kring den tid sende Babel-kongen Merodak Baladan Baladansson brev og gåva til Hizkia, då han høyrde at han hadde vore sjuk og vorte frisk att.

At that time, Marduk-Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah; for he heard that he had been sick, and had recovered.

Hezekiah was pleased with them, and showed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah did not show them.

3 Då kom profeten Jesaja til kong Hizkia og spurde honom: «Kva hev desse mennerne sagt, og kvar helst kom dei frå til deg?» Og Hizkia svara: «Frå eit land langt burte, frå Babel kom dei til meg.»

Then Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah, and asked him, "What did these men say? Where did they come from to you?" Hezekiah said, "They have come from a country far from me, even from Babylon."

4 «Kva hev dei set i huset ditt?» spurde han. «Alt som i huset mitt finst hev dei set, » svara Hizkia; «det fanst ikkje den ting i skattkammeri mine som eg ikkje synte deim.»

Then he asked, "What have they seen in your house?" Hezekiah answered, "They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them."

5 Då sagde Jesaja til Hizkia: «Høyr ordet frå Herren, allhers drott:

Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of YHWH of hosts:

6 Sjå, dagar kjem då alt som finst i huset ditt, det federne dine hev samla alt til i dag, det skal verta ført til Babel; aldri ein grand skal verta att, segjer Herren.

'Look, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,' says YHWH.

7 Og sume av sønerne dine, ætta frå deg, utstokne frå deg, skal takast, og dei skal verta hirdmenner i slottet åt Babel-kongen.»

'They will take away your descendants who will issue from you, whom you shall father, and they will be eunuchs in the king of Babylon's palace.'"

8 Då sagde Hizkia til Jesaja: «Godt er Herrens ord som du hev tala.» Og han sagde framleides: «Det vert då fred og trygd so lenge eg liver.»

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "YHWH's word which you have spoken is good." He said moreover, "For there will be peace and truth in my days."
