Esaias 2

1 Det ordet som Jesaja, son åt Amos, såg um Juda og Jerusalem:

The word which came to Esaias the son of Amos concerning Judea, and concerning Jerusalem.

2 Og det skal verta soleis i dei siste dagar, at det fjellet der Herrens hus stend, skal vera grunnfest på toppen av fjelli, og høgt yver haugarne, og alle folki skal strøyma burt til det.

For in the last days the mountain of the Lord shall be glorious, and the house of God [shall be] on the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall come to it.

3 Og mange folk skal bu seg til ferd og segja: «Kom, lat oss fara upp til Herrens fjell, til huset åt Jakobs Gud, at han må læra oss um sine vegar, so at me kann ganga på hans stigar!» For lovlæra skal ganga ut frå Sion, og Herrens ord frå Jerusalem.

And many nations shall go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will tell us his way, and we will walk in it: for out of Sion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord out of Jerusalem.

4 Og han skal døma imillom folki og skipa rett åt mange folkeslag. Då skal dei smida plogjarn av sverdi sine, og hagesigdar av spjoti sine. Folk skal ikkje lenger lyfta sverd mot folk, og ikkje lenger temja seg upp til krigsferd.

And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plow-shares, and their spears into sickles: and nation shall not take up sword against nation, neither shall they learn to war any more.

5 Jakobs ætt, kom, lat oss ferdast i Herrens ljos!

And now, O house of Jacob, come, [and] let us walk in the light of the Lord.

6 Du hev støytt frå deg folket ditt Jakobs ætt, for di dei er fulle av trolldom frå Austerland og driv med spådomskunster som filistarane, og gjer samband med framande folk.

For he has forsaken his people the house of Israel, because their land is filled as at the beginning with divinations, as the [land] of the Philistines, and many strange children were born to them.

7 Landet deira er fullt av sylv og gull, og eignaluterne tryt ikkje. Landet deira er fullt av hestar, og vognerne deira er uteljande.

For their land is filled with silver and gold, and there was no number of their treasures; their land also is filled with horses, and there was no number of chariots.

8 Landet deira er fullt av avgudar, dei fell på kne for verk av sine eigne hender, for det som deira eigne fingrar hev gjort.

And the land is filled with abominations, [even] the works of their hands; and they have worshipped [the works] which their fingers made.

9 Difor vert menneskja bøygd og mannen mykt, du kann ikkje tilgjeva deim.

And the mean man bowed down, and the great man was humbled: and I will not pardon them.

10 Fly inn i fjellet, gøym deg i jordi for Herrens rædsla, for hans høgvelde og herlegdom!

Now therefore enter ye into the rocks, and hide yourselves in the earth, for fear of the Lord, and by reason of the glory of his might, when he shall arise to strike terribly the earth.

11 Menneskja skal slå ned sine stolte augo, og mannsens stormod skal bøygjast, og einast Herren standa høg på den dagen.

For the eyes of the Lord are high, but man is low; and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

12 For ein dag hev Herren, allhers drott, sett, som skal koma yver alt det kaute og keike, og yver alt det som ris i veret, so det skal verta lite og lågt.

For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and haughty, and upon every one that is high and towering, and they shall be brought down;

13 Yver alle cedrar på Libanon, dei høge og stolte, og yver alle Basaneikerne,

and upon every cedar of Libanus, of them that are high and towering, and upon every oak of Basan,

14 yver alle høge fjell og stolte høgder,

and upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill,

15 yver alle høge tårn og alle faste murar,

and upon every high tower, and upon every high wall,

16 yver alle Tarsis-skip og yver alt som er fagert å skoda.

and upon every ship of the sea, and upon every display of fine ships.

17 Då skal ovmodet i menneskja knekkjast og mannsens stormod bøygjast, og einast Herren skal standa høg på den dagen.

And every man shall be brought low, and the pride of men shall fall: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

18 Med avgudarne er det ute for ollo.

And they shall hide all [idols] made with hands,

19 Og folk skal fly inn i hellerar og jordholor for Herrens rædsla og for hans høgvelde og herlegdom, når han reiser seg og skræmer jordi.

having carried [them] into the caves, and into the clefts of the rocks, and into the caverns of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and by reason of the glory of his might, when he shall arise to strike terribly the earth.

20 På den dag skal menneskja kasta for moldvarpar og skinnvengjor avgudarne sine av sylv og gull, som dei hev gjort seg til å falla på kne for.

For in that day a man shall cast forth his silver and gold abominations, which they made [in order] to worship vanities and bats;

21 Og dei skal fly inn i fjellskortor og skard for Herrens rædsla og for hans høgvelde og herlegdom, når han reiser seg og skræmer jordi.

to enter into the caverns of the solid rock, and into the clefts of the rocks, for fear of the Lord, and by reason of the glory of his might, when he shall arise to strike terribly the earth.

22 So set ikkje lenger dykkar lit til menneskja, som berre eig ein liten livspust i nosi si! Kva er ho å bry seg um?
