5 Mosebok 18
1 Ingen av Levi-prestarne, ingen av deim som høyrer til Levi-ætti, skal få nokon arvlut liksom dei andre Israels-sønerne. Dei skal liva av Herrens offerrettar og alt anna som høyrer honom til,
The priests, the Levites, even the whole tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; the burnt-offerings of the Lord [are] their inheritance, they shall eat them.
2 og ikkje få nokon arv tilliks med brørne sine; Herren skal vera arven deira, soleis som han hev sagt deim.
And they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the Lord himself [is] his portion, as he said to him.
3 Høyr no kva prestarne hev rett til å krevja av folket: Dei som ofrar slagtoffer, anten det er ukse eller sau, skal gjeva presten den eine bogen og båe kjakarne og vinstri.
And this [is] the due of the priests in the things coming from the people from those who offer sacrifices, whether it be a calf or a sheep; and thou shalt give the shoulder to the priest, and the cheeks, and the great intestine:
4 Det fyrste av kornet du avlar og av vinen og oljen, og den fyrste ulli av sauerne skal du gjeva honom.
and the first-fruits of thy corn, and of thy wine, and of thine oil; and thou shalt give to him the first-fruits of the fleeces of thy sheep:
5 For honom og sønerne hans hev Herren, din Gud, valt seg ut millom alle ætterne dine, so dei skal standa framfor Herren og gjera tenesta i hans namn alle dagar.
because the Lord has chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand before the Lord thy God, to minister and bless in his name, himself and his sons among the children of Israel.
6 Når ein levit som held til i nokon av byarne i Israel, kjem til den staden som Herren hev valt seg ut, so skal han vera velkomen:
And if a Levite come from one of the cities of all the children of Israel, where he himself dwells, accordingly as his mind desires, to the place which he shall have chosen,
7 Han kann gjera tenesta i Herrens namn, liksom dei andre levitarne, brørne hans, som stend der framfor Herrens åsyn,
he shall minister to the name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Levites, who stand there present before the Lord thy God.
8 og han skal få sin lut av offergåvorne tilliks med deim, umfram dei pengarne han fær når han sel det han hev rett til etter federne sine.
He shall eat an allotted portion, besides the sale of his hereditary property.
9 Når du kjem til det landet som Herren, din Gud, gjev deg, so skal du ikkje taka etter dei folki som bur der, og fara med slik styggedom som dei fer med.
And when thou shalt have entered into the land which the Lord thy God gives thee, thou shalt not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.
10 Hjå deg må ingen finnast som vigjer barnet sitt i elden, ingen spåmann eller viskall, ingen som fer med å leggja ut teikn, ingen trollmann
There shall not be found in thee one who purges his son or his daughter with fire, one who uses divination, who deals with omens, and augury,
11 eller åndemanar, ingen som spør daudingar og hamar, eller søkjer råd hjå dei avlidne.
a sorcerer employing incantation, one who has in him a divining spirit, and observer of signs, questioning the dead.
12 For dei som gjer sovore, er avstyggjelege i Herrens augo, og for slik styggedom skuld er det Herren driv deim ut for dykk.
For every one that does these things is an abomination to the Lord thy God; for because of these abominations the Lord will destroy them from before thy face.
13 Trufast og ærleg skal du vera mot Herren, din Gud.
Thou shalt be perfect before the Lord thy God.
14 For desse folki som du skal driva ut, dei lyder etter runekallar og spåmenner, men deg hev Herren, din Gud, forbode alt slikt.
For all these nations whose [land] thou shalt inherit, they will listen to omens and divinations; but the Lord thy God has not permitted thee so [to do].
15 Ein profet som eg, av ditt eige folk, skal Herren reisa upp millom dykk; honom skal de lyda.
The Lord thy God shall raise up to thee a prophet of thy brethren, like me; him shall ye hear:
16 Herren skal gjera det som du bad honom um attmed Horeb, samkomedagen, då du sagde: «Eg torer ikkje høyra på Herrens røyst lenger, og denne store elden toler eg ikkje å sjå på meir; for då lyt eg døy.»
according to all things which thou didst desire of the Lord thy God in Choreb in the day of the assembly, saying, We will not again hear the voice of the Lord thy God, and we will not any more see this great fire, and [so] we shall not die.
17 Då sagde Herren til meg: «Det er rett det dei segjer.
And the Lord said to me, They have spoken rightly all that they have said to thee.
18 Ein profet vil eg reisa upp for deim av deira eige folk, ein som du, og leggja ordi mine i munnen hans, og han skal tala til deim alt det eg segjer honom fyre.
I will raise up to them a prophet of their brethren, like thee; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them as I shall command him.
19 Og den som ikkje høyrer på ordi mine, deim som han talar i mitt namn, han skal få svara for det.
And whatever man shall not hearken to whatsoever words that prophet shall speak in my name, I will take vengeance on him.
20 Men vågar ein profet å tala noko i mitt namn, og eg ikkje hev sett honom til det, eller talar han i namnet åt andre gudar, so skal han døy.»
But the prophet whosoever shall impiously speak in my name a word which I have not commanded him to speak, and whosoever shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.
21 Og um du tenkjer med deg: «Korleis kann me vita um eit ord kjem frå Herren eller ikkje?»
But if thou shalt say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?
22 so høyr her: Når ein profet talar i Herrens namn, og det han hev sagt ikkje hender og ikkje gjeng fram, so hev det ordet ikkje kome frå Herren; då er det noko profeten hev våga seg til å tala på eigi hand, og du tarv ikkje vera rædd honom.
Whatsoever words that prophet shall speak in the name of the Lord, and they shall not come true, and not come to pass, this [is] the thing which the Lord has not spoken; that prophet has spoken wickedly: ye shall not spare him.
