2 Krønikebok 25

1 Fem og tjuge år gamall var Amasja då han vart konge, og ni og tjuge år styrde han i Jerusalem. Mor hans heitte Joaddan og var ifrå Jerusalem.

Amasias began to reign when he was twenty and five years old, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name [was] Joadaen of Jerusalem.

2 Han gjorde det som rett var i Herrens augo, endå det ikkje var med eit heilt hjarta.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

3 Då han hadde vorte grunnfest i kongedømet, let han drepe dei hirdmennerne som hadde slege i hel kongen, far hans.

And it came to pass, when the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had slain the king his father.

4 Men borni deira let han ikkje drepa, men heldt seg til det som stend skrive i lovi i Moseboki, der Herren hev bode soleis: «Foreldri skal ikkje døy for det borni deira hev gjort, og borni ikkje for det foreldri hev gjort, men kvar og ein skal døy for si eigi synd.

But he slew not their sons, according to the covenant of the law of the Lord, as it is written, [and] as the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, and the sons shall not die for the fathers, but they shall die each for his own sin.

5 So stemnde Amasja Juda-mennerne saman og skipa deim etter ættgreinerne under tusund- og hundradhovdingarne for heile Juda og Benjamin; han mynstra deim ifrå tjugeårsalderen og uppetter, og på den måten fekk han det til tri hundrad tusund utvalde stridsføre hermenner som bar skjold og spjot.

And Amasias assembled the house of Juda, and appointed them according to the houses of their families for captains of thousands and captains of hundreds in all Juda and Jerusalem: and he numbered them from twenty years old and upwards, and found them three hundred thousand able to go out to war, holding spear and shield.

6 Han leigde so hundrad tusund djerve stridsmenner i Israel for hundrad sylvtalent.

Also he hired of Israel a hundred thousand mighty [men for] a hundred talents of silver.

7 Men gudsmannen kom til honom og sagde: «Israels-heren må ikkje draga med deg, konge, for Herren er ikkje med Israel, ikkje med nokon av alle Efraims-borni.

And there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the host of Israel go with thee; for the Lord is not with Israel, [even] all the sons of Ephraim.

8 Men drag du av stad, gjer det, ver hugheil til striden! Elles vil Gud føra deg til fall for fienden, for Gud hev kraft til å hjelpa og til å fella.»

For if thou shalt undertake to strengthen [thyself] with these, then the lord shall put thee to flight before the enemies: for it is of the Lord both to strengthen and to put to flight.

9 Amasja spurde gudsmannen: «Men kva vert det då av dei hundrad sylvtalenti som eg hev gjeve til flokken ifrå Israel?» Men gudsmannen svara: «Herren er god til å gjeva deg meir enn det.»

And Amasias said to the man of God, But what shall I do [for] the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God said, The Lord can give thee much more than these.

10 Då skilde Amasja ut den flokken som hadde kome til honom ifrå Efraim, og let dei fara heim. Men yver dette vart dei brennende harme på Juda og snudde heim i storsinne.

And Amasias separated from the army that came to him from Ephraim, that they might go away to their place; and they were very angry with Juda, and they returned to their place with great wrath.

11 Amasja tok mod til seg og førde herfolket sitt til Saltdalen, og der hogg han ned ti tusund utav Se’irs-borni.

And Amasias strengthened [himself], and took his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote there the children of Seir ten thousand.

12 Dessutan tok Juda-mennerne ti tusund krigsfanger og førde deim upp på ein bergtopp og støytte deim ned derifrå, so dei vart knasa alle saman.

And the children of Juda took ten thousand prisoners, and they carried them to the top of the precipice, and cast them headlong from the top of the precipice, and they were all dashed to pieces.

13 Men folket av den flokken som Amasja hadde sendt heim, so dei ikkje drog i krigen med honom, dei gjorde innfall i Juda-byarne ifrå Samaria til Bet-Horon, hogg ned tri tusund menneskje og gjorde stort herfang.

And the men of the host whom Amasias sent back so that they should not go with him to battle, [went] and attacked the cities of Juda, from Samaria to Baethoron; and they smote three thousand among them, and took much spoil.

14 Då Amasja var komen att ifrå sigeren yver edomitarne, tok han med seg gudarne åt Se’irs-borni og stelte deim upp til guder åt seg; han kasta seg ned for deim og kveikte offereld for deim.

And it came to pass, after Amasias had returned from smiting Idumea, that he brought home the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up for himself as gods, and bowed down before them, and he sacrificed to them.

15 Då vart Herren brennande harm på Amasja, og han sende ein profet imot honom, som sagde til honom: «Kvifor held du deg til gudarne åt dette folket, dei som ikkje hev fria ut sitt eige folk or di hand?»

And the anger of the Lord came upon Amasias, and he sent him a prophet, and he said to him, Why hast thou sought the gods of the people, which have not rescued their own people out of thine hand?

16 Men då han tala soleis til honom, sagde han til honom: «Hev me gjort deg til rådgjevar for kongen? Haldt upp, so dei ikkje skal slå deg i hel!» Då heldt profeten upp og sagde: «Eg veit det er Guds råd at han vil ødeleggja deg, av di du hev gjort dette og ikkje høyrt på mi råd.»

And it came to pass when the prophet was speaking to him, that he said to him, have I made thee king's counsellor? take heed lest thou be scourged: and the prophet forebore, and said, I know that [God] is disposed against thee to destroy thee, because thou hast done this thing, and hast not hearkened to my counsel.

17 Juda-kongen Amasja heldt råd, og so sende han bod til Israels-kongen Joas, son åt Joahaz, son åt Jehu, og sagde: «Kom, lat oss røyna kvarandre!»

And Amasias king of Juda took counsel, and sent to Joas, son of Joachaz, son of Jeu, king of Israel, saying, Come, and let us look one another in the face.

18 Men Israels-kongen Joas sende dette svaret til Juda-kongen Amasja: «Tistelen på Libanon sende bod til cederen på Libanon og sagde: «Gjev dotter di til kona åt son min!» Men då flaug villdyri på Libanon yver tistelen og trakka honom ned.

And Joas king of Israel sent to Amasias king of Juda, saying, The thistle that was in Libanus sent to the cedar that was in Libanus, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife; but, behold, thy wild beasts of the field that are in Libanus shall come: and the wild beasts did come, and trod down the thistle.

19 Du tenkjer: Eg hev vunne siger yver Edom!» Og det hev gjort deg ovmodig; vert roleg heime! Kvifor vil du leika med ulukka, til fall for deg sjølv og for Juda?»

Thou hast said, Behold, I have smitten Idumea, and thy stout heart exalts thee: now stay at home; for why dost thou implicate thyself in mischief, that thou shouldest fall, and Juda with thee.

20 Men Amasja vilde ikkje høyra; for Gud laga det soleis, av di han vilde gjeva deim i fiendehand for di dei hadde søkt Edom-gudarne.

Nevertheless Amasias hearkened not, for it was of the Lord to deliver him into [the enemy's] hands, because he sought after the gods of the Idumeans.

21 Då for Joas, Israels-kongen, upp, og dei fekk røyna kvarandre, han og Amasja, Juda-kongen, ved Bet-Semes, som ligg i Juda.

So Joas king of Israel went up; and they saw one another, he and Amasias king of Juda, in Baethsamys, which is of Juda.

22 Og Juda-folket tapte for Israels-folket og rømde, kvar til sitt.

And Juda was put to flight before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.

23 Joas, Israels-kongen, tok Amasja, Juda-kongen, son åt Joas, son åt Joahaz, til fange ved Bet-Semes og førde honom til Jerusalem. Deretter reiv han ned eit stykke av muren kring Jerusalem frå Efraimsporten til Hyrneporten, so mykje som fire hundrad alner.

And Joas king of Israel took prisoner Amasias king of Juda, [son] of Joas, son of Joachaz, in Baethsamys, and brought him to Jerusalem; and he pulled down [part] of the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

24 Og han tok alt gullet og sylvet og alle dei kjerald som fanst i Guds hus hjå Obed-Edom og i skattkamri i kongsgarden, og gislarne, og so snudde han heim att til Samaria.

And [he took] all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord and with Abdedom, and the treasures of the king's house, and the hostages, and he returned to Samaria.

25 Juda-kongen Amasja Joasson livde femtan år etter Israels-kongen Joas Joahazson var dåen.

And Amasias the [son] of Joas king of Juda lived after the death of Joas the [son] of Joachaz king of Israel fifteen years.

26 Det som elles er å fortelja um Amasja frå fyrst til sist, det er uppskrive i Judas og Israels kongebok.

And the rest of the acts of Amasias, the first and the last, Lo! are they not written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel?

27 Men frå den tid då Amasja sveik Herren, skipa dei ei samansverjing imot honom i Jerusalem, og då han rømde til Lakis, sende dei folk etter honom dit, og dei drap honom der.

And at the time when Amasias departed from the Lord, then they formed a conspiracy against him; and he fled from Jerusalem to Lachis: and they sent after him to Lachis, and slew him there.

28 Dei lyfte honom upp på hesteryggen og gravlagde honom hjå federne i Judabyen.

And they took him up on horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of David.
