Sakarias 7

1 Så var det i kong Darius' fjerde år, da kom Herrens ord til Sakarias på den fjerde dag i den niende måned, i måneden kislev.

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Darius the king, [that] the word of the Lord came to Zacharias on the fourth [day] of the ninth month, which is Chaseleu.

2 For Betel hadde sendt Sareser og Regem-Melek og hans menn for å bønnfalle Herren

And Sarasar and Arbeseer the king and his men sent to Bethel, and [that] to propitiate the Lord,

3 og spørre prestene i Herrens, hærskarenes Guds hus og profetene: Skal vi gråte og faste i den femte måned, som vi nu har gjort i så mange år?

speaking to the priests that were in the house of the Lord Almighty, and to the prophets, saying, The holy offering has come in hither in the fifth month, as it has done already many years.

4 Da kom Herrens, hærskarenes Guds ord til mig, og det lød så:

And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying,

5 Si til alt folket i landet og til prestene: Når I har fastet og klaget i den femte og i den syvende måned, og det nu i sytti år, er det da for min skyld I har fastet?

Speak to the whole people of the land, and to the priests, saying, Though ye fasted or lamented in the fifth or seventh [months] (yea, behold, these seventy years) have ye at all fasted to me?

6 Og når I eter og drikker, er det da ikke I selv som eter, og I selv som drikker?

And if ye eat or drink, do ye not eat and drink for yourselves?

7 Minnes I ikke de ord Herren lot utrope ved de forrige profeter, da Jerusalem lå der i ro og fred med sine byer rundt om, og likeså sydlandet og lavlandet?

Are not these the words which the Lord spoke by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and her cities round about her, and the hill country and the low country was inhabited?

8 Og Herrens ord kom til Sakarias, og det lød så:

And the word of the Lord came to Zacharias, saying,

9 Så sa Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Døm rettferdige dommer og vis miskunnhet og barmhjertighet mot hverandre,

Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Judge righteous judgment, and deal mercifully and compassionately every one with his brother:

10 og undertrykk ikke enker og farløse, fremmede og arminger, og tenk ikke ut ondt mot hverandre i eders hjerte!

and oppress not the widow, or the fatherless, or the stranger, or the poor; and let not one of you remember in his heart the injury of his brother.

11 Men de vilde ikke akte på det, men satte i sin gjenstridighet skulderen imot, og sine ører gjorde de døve, så de ikke hørte,

But they refused to attend, and madly turned their back, and made their ears heavy, so that they should not hear.

12 og sitt hjerte gjorde de hårdt som en diamant, så de ikke hørte på loven og de ord Herren, hærskarenes Gud, sendte ved sin Ånd gjennem de forrige profeter; derfor kom det en stor vrede fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

And they made their heart disobedient, so as not to hearken to my law, and the words which the Lord Almighty sent forth by his Spirit by the former prophets: so there was great wrath from the Lord Almighty.

13 Og likesom han ropte, og de ikke hørte, således, sa Herren, hærskarenes Gud, skal de rope, og jeg vil ikke høre,

And it shall come to pass, [that] as he spoke, and they hearkened not, so they shall cry, and I will not hearken, saith the Lord Almighty.

14 men jeg vil sprede dem som i en stormvind blandt alle hedningefolkene, som de ikke kjenner, og landet skal ligge øde efter dem, så ingen drar frem eller tilbake der. Og således gjorde de det herlige land til en ørken.

And I will cast them out among all the nations, whom they know not; and the land behind them shall be made utterly destitute of any going through or returning: yea they have made the choice land a desolation.
