1 Til sangmesteren; efter "Liljer"; et vidnesbyrd av Asaf; en salme. Israels hyrde, vend øret til, du som fører Josef som en hjord! Du som troner over kjerubene, åpenbar dig i herlighet!

For the end, for alternate [strains], a testimony for Asaph, a Psalm concerning the Assyrian. Attend, O Shepherd of Israel, who guidest Joseph like a flock; thou who sittest upon the cherubs, manifest thyself;

2 Vekk op ditt velde for Efra'im og Benjamin og Manasse, og kom oss til frelse!

before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasse, stir up thy power, and come to deliver us.

3 Gud, reis oss op igjen, og la ditt åsyn lyse, så vi blir frelst!

Turn us, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be delivered.

4 Herre, Gud, hærskarenes Gud hvor lenge har du latt din vrede ryke uten å ense ditt folks bønn!

O Lord God of hosts, how long art thou angry with the prayer of thy servant?

5 Du har gitt dem tårebrød å ete og tårer å drikke i fullt mål.

Thou wilt feed us with bread of tears; and wilt cause us to drink tears by measure.

6 Du gjør oss til en trette for våre naboer, og våre fiender spotter med lyst.

Thou has made us a strife to our neighbours; and our enemies have mocked at us.

7 Gud, hærskarenes Gud, reis oss op igjen, og la ditt åsyn lyse, så vi blir frelst!

Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. (Pause)

8 Et vintre tok du op fra Egypten, du drev hedningefolk ut og plantet det.

Thou hast transplanted a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

9 Du ryddet op for det, og det festet sine røtter og fylte landet.

Thou madest a way before it, and didst cause its roots to strike, and the land was filled [with it].

10 Fjell blev skjult av dets skygge, og Guds sedrer av dets grener.

Its shadow covered the mountains, and its shoots [equalled] the goodly cedars.

11 Det strakte ut sine grener til havet og sine skudd bort imot elven.

It sent forth its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the river.

12 Hvorfor har du revet ned dets hegn, så alle de som går forbi på veien, plukker av det?

Wherefore hast thou broken down its hedge, while all that pass by the way pluck it?

13 Svinet fra skogen gnager på det, og hvad som rører sig på marken, eter av det.

The boar out of the wood has laid it waste, and the wild beast has devoured it.

14 Gud, hærskarenes Gud, vend tilbake, sku ned fra himmelen og se og ta dig av dette vintre

O God of hosts, turn, we pray thee: look on [us] from heaven, and behold and visit this vine;

15 og vern om det som din høire hånd har plantet, og om den sønn du har utvalgt dig!

and restore that which thy right hand has planted: and look on the son of man whom thou didst strengthen for thyself.

16 Det er brent med ild, det er avhugget; for ditt åsyns trusel går de under.

[It is] burnt with fire and dug up: they shall perish at the rebuke of thy presence.

17 La din hånd være over den mann som er ved din høire hånd, over den menneskesønn du har utvalgt dig,

Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, and upon the son of man whom thou didst strengthen for thyself.

18 så vil vi ikke vike fra dig! Gjør oss levende igjen, så vil vi påkalle ditt navn!

So will we not depart from thee: thou shalt quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

19 Herre, Gud, hærskarenes Gud, reis oss op igjen, la ditt åsyn lyse, så vi blir frelst!

Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and make thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
