Salmenes 116

1 Jeg elsker Herren, for han hører min røst, mine inderlige bønner.

I rejoice that the LORD hath heard the voice of my supplication,

2 For han har bøiet sitt øre til mig, og alle mine dager vil jeg påkalle ham.

That he hath inclined his ear to me and heard me; I will call upon him as long as I live.

3 Dødens rep hadde omspent mig, og dødsrikets angster hadde funnet mig; nød og sorg fant jeg. (Sheol h7585)

The snares of death encompassed me, And the pains of the underworld seized upon me; I found distress and sorrow. (Sheol h7585)

4 Men jeg påkalte Herrens navn: Akk Herre, frels min sjel!

Then called I upon the LORD: O LORD! deliver me!

5 Herren er nådig og rettferdig, og vår Gud er barmhjertig.

Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yea, our God is merciful.

6 Herren verner de enfoldige; jeg var elendig, og han frelste mig.

The LORD preserveth the simple; I was brought low, and he helped me.

7 Kom igjen, min sjel, til din ro! For Herren har gjort vel imot dig.

Return, O my soul! to thy rest! For the LORD hath dealt kindly with thee.

8 For du fridde min sjel fra døden, mitt øie fra gråt, min fot fra fall.

For thou hast preserved me from death; Thou hast kept mine eyes from tears, And my feet from falling!

9 Jeg skal vandre for Herrens åsyn i de levendes land.

I shall walk before the LORD, In the land of the living.

10 Jeg trodde, for jeg talte; jeg var såre plaget.

I had trust, although I said, “I am grievously afflicted!”

11 Jeg sa i min angst: Hvert menneske er en løgner.

I said in my distress, “All men are liars.”

12 Hvormed skal jeg gjengjelde Herren alle hans velgjerninger imot mig?

What shall I render to the LORD For all his benefits to me?

13 Jeg vil løfte frelsens beger og påkalle Herrens navn.

I will take the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the LORD;

14 Jeg vil holde for Herren mine løfter, og det for hele hans folks øine.

I will pay my vows to the LORD, In the presence of all his people.

15 Kostelig i Herrens øine er hans frommes død.

Precious in the eyes of the LORD Is the death of his holy ones.

16 Akk Herre! Jeg er jo din tjener, jeg er din tjener, din tjenerinnes sønn; du har løst mine bånd.

Hear, O LORD! for I am thy servant; I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid! Thou hast loosed my bonds.

17 Dig vil jeg ofre takkoffer, og Herrens navn vil jeg påkalle.

I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the LORD.

18 Jeg vil holde for Herren mine løfter, og det for hele hans folks øine,

I will pay my vows to the LORD In the presence of all his people,

19 i forgårdene til Herrens hus, midt i dig, Jerusalem. Halleluja!

In the courts of the house of the LORD, In the midst of thee, O Jerusalem! Praise ye the LORD!
