4 Mosebok 31
1 Og Herren talte til Moses og sa:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
2 Ta hevn over midianittene for det de har gjort mot Israels barn! Derefter skal du samles til dine fedre.
“Execute the vengeance of the sons of Israel against the Midianites—afterward you are gathered to your people.”
3 Da talte Moses til folket og sa: La nogen av eder ruste sig til strid! De skal kjempe mot midianittene og føre Herrens hevn over Midian;
And Moses speaks to the people, saying, “Arm men from [among] you for the war, and they are against Midian, to put the vengeance of YHWH on Midian;
4 tusen av hver stamme, av alle Israels stammer, skal I sende ut til strid.
one thousand for a tribe—you send one thousand for a tribe, of all the tribes of Israel, to the war.”
5 Så blev der av Israels tusener tatt ut tusen av hver stamme - tolv tusen, rustet til strid.
And there are given out of the thousands of Israel one thousand for a tribe—twelve thousand armed ones [for] war;
6 Dem sendte Moses ut i striden - tusen av hver stamme - og med dem Pinehas, sønn av Eleasar, presten; han hadde med sig helligdommens redskaper og larmtrompetene.
and Moses sends them, one thousand for a tribe, to the war; [he sent] them and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest to the war, with the holy vessels and the trumpets of shouting in his hand.
7 Og de stred mot Midian, som Herren hadde befalt Moses, og de slo alt mannkjønn ihjel.
And they war against Midian, as YHWH has commanded Moses, and slay every male;
8 Og blandt dem de slo ihjel, var også Midians konger, Evi og Rekem og Sur og Hur og Reba, Midians fem konger; også Bileam, Beors sønn, slo de ihjel med sverdet.
and they have slain the kings of Midian besides their pierced ones: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba—five kings of Midian; and they have slain Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
9 Og Israels barn førte Midians kvinner og deres barn bort som fanger, og alle deres kløvdyr og all deres buskap og alt deres gods gjorde de til bytte.
And the sons of Israel take the women of Midian and their infants captive; and they have plundered all their livestock, and all their substance, and all their wealth;
10 Og alle deres byer overalt hvor de bodde, og alle deres teltleire brente de op med ild.
and they have burned all their cities, with their habitations, and all their towers, with fire.
11 Og de tok alt byttet og alt det de hadde røvet, både folk og fe,
And they take all the spoil and all the prey, among man and among beast;
12 og de førte fangene og byttet og det de hadde røvet, til Moses og Eleasar, presten, og til Israels barns menighet, til leiren på Moabs ødemarker ved Jordan, midt imot Jeriko.
and they bring in the captives, and the prey, and the spoil to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the camp, to the plains of Moab, which [are] by the Jordan, [near] Jericho.
13 Og Moses og Eleasar, presten, og alle menighetens høvdinger gikk dem i møte utenfor leiren.
And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, go out to meet them, to the outside of the camp,
14 Men Moses blev vred på dem som var satt over hæren, på høvdingene over tusen og høvdingene over hundre, da de kom tilbake fra krigstoget.
and Moses is angry against the inspectors of the force, chiefs of the thousands, and chiefs of the hundreds, who are coming in from the warfare of battle.
15 Og Moses sa til dem: Har I latt alle kvinner leve?
And Moses says to them, “Have you kept every female alive?
16 Det var jo de som på Bileams råd forførte Israels barn til troløshet mot Herren for Peors skyld, så sotten kom over Herrens menighet.
Behold, they have been to the sons of Israel, through the word of Balaam, to cause a trespass against YHWH in the matter of Peor, and the plague is in the congregation of YHWH.
17 Så slå nu ihjel alle guttebarn og alle kvinner som har hatt samleie med menn.
And now, slay every male among the infants, indeed, slay every woman knowing a man by the lying of a male;
18 Men alle unge piker som ikke har hatt samleie med menn, skal I la leve, og de skal høre eder til.
and all the infants among the women who have not known the lying of a male you have kept alive for yourselves.
19 Og så skal I holde eder utenfor leiren i syv dager! Enhver av eder som har slått nogen ihjel, og enhver som har rørt ved en som er slått ihjel, skal rense sig på den tredje og på den syvende dag - både I og eders fanger.
And you, encamp at the outside of the camp [for] seven days; any who has slain a person, and any who has come against a pierced one, cleanse yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day—you and your captives;
20 Og alle klær og alt som er gjort av skinn eller av gjetehår, og alle trekar skal I rense.
and every garment, and every skin vessel, and every work of goats’ [hair], and every wooden vessel, you yourselves cleanse.”
21 Og Eleasar, presten, sa til stridsmennene som hadde vært med i krigen: Dette er det lovbud som Herren har gitt Moses:
And Eleazar the priest says to the men of war who go to battle, “This [is] the statute of the law which YHWH has commanded Moses:
22 Gull og sølv, kobber, jern, tinn og bly,
only the gold, and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23 alt som tåler ild, skal I la gå gjennem ilden, så blir det rent; men det skal også renses med renselsesvannet. Men alt som ikke tåler ild, skal I la gå gjennem vann.
everything which may go into fire, you cause to pass over through fire, and it has been clean; it is surely cleansed with the water of separation; and all that may not go into fire, you cause to pass over through water;
24 Og den syvende dag skal I tvette eders klær, så blir I rene; og derefter kan I komme inn i leiren.
and you have washed your garments on the seventh day and have been clean, and afterward you come into the camp.”
25 Og Herren sa til Moses:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
26 Ta tall på hele det bortførte bytte, både folk og fe, du og Eleasar, presten, og overhodene for menighetens familier.
“Take up the sum of the prey of the captives, among man and among beast, you, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the congregation;
27 Og du skal dele byttet i to deler mellem krigsfolket som drog ut i striden, og hele menigheten.
and you have halved the prey between those handling the battle, who go out to the war, and all the congregation;
28 Og du skal ta en avgift til Herren av krigsfolket som drog ut i striden, ett liv av hvert fem hundre, både av mennesker og av storfeet og asenene og småfeet.
and you have raised a tribute to YHWH from the men of battle, who go out to the war, one body out of five hundred, of man, and of the herd, and of the donkeys, and of the flock;
29 Dette skal I ta av den halvdel som tilfaller krigsfolket; og du skal gi det til Eleasar, presten, som en gave til Herren.
you take from their half and have given [it] to Eleazar the priest [as] a raised-offering of YHWH.
30 Og av den halvdel som tilfaller Israels barn, skal du ta ut ett liv av hvert femti, både av mennesker og av storfeet og asenene og småfeet - av alt feet; og du skal gi dem til levittene, som tar vare på det som er å vareta ved Herrens tabernakel.
And from the sons of Israel’s half you take one possession out of fifty, of man, of the herd, of the donkeys, and of the flock, of all the livestock, and you have given them to the Levites keeping the charge of the Dwelling Place of YHWH.”
31 Og Moses og Eleasar, presten, gjorde således som Herren hadde befalt Moses.
And Moses does—Eleazar the priest also—as YHWH has commanded Moses.
32 Og byttet - det som var tilovers av alt det som stridsfolket hadde røvet - var: av småfe seks hundre og fem og sytti tusen
And the prey, the remainder of the spoil which the people of the host have spoiled, is six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand of the flock;
33 og av storfe to og sytti tusen
and seventy-two thousand of the herd;
34 og av asener en og seksti tusen.
and sixty-one thousand donkeys;
35 Og av mennesker - kvinner som ikke hadde hatt samleie med menn - var det i alt to og tretti tusen.
and of mankind—of the women who have not known the lying of a male—all the persons [are] thirty-two thousand.
36 Halvdelen av dette - den del som falt på stridsmennene - var: av småfeet tre hundre og syv og tretti tusen og fem hundre,
And the half, the portion of those who go out into the war, is [in] number three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred of the flock.
37 så avgiften til Herren av småfeet blev seks hundre og fem og sytti,
And the tribute to YHWH of the sheep is six hundred seventy-five;
38 og av storfeet seks og tretti tusen, og avgiften derav til Herren to og sytti,
and the herd [is] thirty-six thousand, and their tribute to YHWH [is] seventy-two;
39 og av asener tretti tusen og fem hundre, og avgiften derav til Herren en og seksti,
and the donkeys [are] thirty thousand and five hundred, and their tribute to YHWH [is] sixty-one;
40 og av mennesker seksten tusen, og avgiften derav til Herren to og tretti.
and of mankind [are] sixteen thousand, and their tribute to YHWH [is] thirty-two persons.
41 Og Moses gav avgiften til Eleasar, presten, som en gave til Herren, således som Herren hadde befalt Moses.
And Moses gives the tribute—YHWH’s raised-offering—to Eleazar the priest, as YHWH has commanded Moses.
42 Den halvdel som tilfalt Israels barn, og som Moses hadde skilt ut fra stridsmennenes del -
And of the sons of Israel’s half, which Moses halved from the men who war—
43 den halvdel som tilfalt menigheten - var: av småfe tre hundre og syv og tretti tusen og fem hundre
and the congregation’s half is three hundred thousand and thirty thousand [and] seven thousand and five hundred of the flock;
44 og av storfe seks og tretti tusen
and thirty-six thousand of the herd;
45 og av asener tretti tusen og fem hundre
and thirty thousand and five hundred donkeys;
46 og av mennesker seksten tusen.
and sixteen thousand of mankind—
47 Av denne halvdel - den som tilfalt Israels barn - tok Moses ut ett liv for hvert femti, både av mennesker og av dyr, og gav dem til levittene, som tok vare på det som er å vareta ved Herrens tabernakel, således som Herren hadde befalt Moses.
Moses takes from the sons of Israel’s half one possession from the fifty, of man and of beast, and gives them to the Levites keeping the charge of the Dwelling Place of YHWH, as YHWH has commanded Moses.
48 Så gikk de som var satt over hærens tusener, høvdingene over tusen og høvdingene over hundre, frem for Moses
And the inspectors whom the thousands of the host have (heads of the thousands and heads of the hundreds), draw near to Moses,
49 og sa til ham: Dine tjenere har tatt tall på krigsfolkene som stod under vår befaling, og det fattedes ikke én mann av oss.
and they say to Moses, “Your servants have taken up the sum of the men of war who [are] with us, and not a man of us has been missed;
50 Derfor bærer vi frem som gave til Herren hvad enhver av oss har tatt av gullsaker, armkjeder og armbånd, fingerringer, ørenringer og kulekjeder; det skal være til soning for oss for Herrens åsyn.
and we bring YHWH’s offering near, each of that which he has found of vessels of gold—chain, and bracelet, seal-ring, [ear]-ring, and bead—to make atonement for ourselves before YHWH.”
51 Og Moses og Eleasar, presten, tok imot gullet av dem, alle slags fint arbeidede ting.
And Moses receives—Eleazar the priest also—the gold from them, every vessel of workmanship;
52 Og hele den gave av gull som høvdingene over tusen og høvdingene over hundre avgav til Herren, var seksten tusen, syv hundre og femti sekel.
and all the gold of the raised-offering which they have lifted up to YHWH is sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from heads of the thousands and from heads of the hundreds;
53 Men stridsmennene hadde og hver for sig vunnet bytte.
(the men of the host have each taken spoil for himself);
54 Da Moses og Eleasar, presten, hadde tatt imot gullet av høvdingene over tusen og over hundre, bar de det inn i sammenkomstens telt, forat det skulde minne om Israels barn for Herrens åsyn.
and Moses takes—Eleazar the priest also—the gold from the heads of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they bring it into the Tent of Meeting [as] a memorial for the sons of Israel before YHWH.
