1 Da Ehud var død, gjorde Israels barn atter det som var ondt i Herrens øine.
And the sons of Israel add to do evil in the eyes of YHWH when Ehud is dead,
2 Og Herren solgte dem i Jabins, Kana'ans konges hånd; han regjerte i Hasor; hans hærfører var Sisera, som bodde i Haroset-Haggojim.
and YHWH sells them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who has reigned in Hazor, and Sisera [is] the head of his host, and he is dwelling in Harosheth of the nations;
3 Og Israels barn ropte til Herren; for han hadde ni hundre jernvogner, og han trengte Israels barn hårdt i tyve år.
and the sons of Israel cry to YHWH, for he has nine hundred chariots of iron, and he has oppressed the sons of Israel mightily [for] twenty years.
4 Og Debora, en profetinne, Lappidots hustru, dømte Israel på denne tid;
And Deborah, a woman, a prophetess, wife of Lapidoth, she is judging Israel at that time,
5 hun satt under Deboras palmetre mellem Rama og Betel på Efra'im-fjellet, og Israels barn gikk op til henne forat hun skulde skifte rett mellem dem.
and she is dwelling under the palm-tree of Deborah, between Ramah and Beth-El, in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the sons of Israel go up to her for judgment.
6 Hun sendte bud og kalte til sig Barak, Abinoams sønn, fra Kedes i Naftali og sa til ham: Hør hvad Herren, Israels Gud, har befalt: Gå av sted og dra op på Tabor-fjellet og ta med dig ti tusen mann av Naftalis barn og av Sebulons barn!
And she sends and calls for Barak son of Abinoam, out of Kedesh-Naphtali, and says to him, “Has YHWH, God of Israel, not commanded? Go, and you have drawn toward Mount Tabor, and have taken with you ten thousand men, out of the sons of Naphtali, and out of the sons of Zebulun,
7 Og jeg vil dra Sisera, Jabins hærfører, og hans vogner og hans hær bort til dig, til Kison-bekken, og gi ham i din hånd.
and I have drawn to you, to the Brook of Kishon, Sisera, head of the host of Jabin, and his chariot, and his multitude, and have given him into your hand.”
8 Da sa Barak til henne: Hvis du går med mig, vil jeg gå; men hvis du ikke går med mig, så går heller ikke jeg.
And Barak says to her, “If you go with me, then I have gone; and if you do not go with me, I do not go”;
9 Og hun sa: Gå med dig skal jeg; men æren skal dog ikke bli din på den vei du går, for i en kvinnes hånd skal Herren selge Sisera. Så gjorde Debora sig rede og gikk med Barak til Kedes.
and she says, “I certainly go with you; only, surely your glory is not on the way which you are going, for YHWH sells Sisera into the hand of a woman”; and Deborah rises and goes with Barak to Kedesh.
10 Og Barak stevnet Sebulon og Naftali sammen til Kedes, og ti tusen mann drog op efter ham; og Debora gikk med ham.
And Barak calls Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he goes up—ten thousand men [are] at his feet—and Deborah goes up with him.
11 Men kenitten Heber hadde skilt sig fra kenittene, fra Hobabs, Moses' svogers barn; og han flyttet med sine telt like til Sa'ana'im-eken ved Kedes.
And Heber the Kenite has been separated from the Kenite, from the sons of Hobab father-in-law of Moses, and he stretches out his tent to the oak in Zaanaim, which [is] by Kedesh.
12 Da Sisera fikk spurt at Barak, Abinoams sønn, hadde draget op på Tabor-fjellet,
And they declare to Sisera that Barak son of Abinoam has gone up to Mount Tabor,
13 stevnet han sammen alle sine vogner, ni hundre jernvogner, og alt det folk som var med ham, at de skulde komme fra Haroset-Haggojim til Kison-bekken.
and Sisera calls all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who [are] with him, from Harosheth of the nations, to the Brook of Kishon.
14 Da sa Debora til Barak: Op! Dette er den dag da Herren har gitt Sisera i din hånd; drar ikke Herren ut foran dig? Så drog Barak ned fra Tabor-fjellet, og ti tusen mann fulgte ham.
And Deborah says to Barak, “Rise, for this [is] the day in which YHWH has given Sisera into your hand; has YHWH not gone out before you?” And Barak goes down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15 Da slo Herren Sisera og alle vognene og hele hæren med redsel, så de ikke kunde stå sig for Baraks sverd; og Sisera steg ned av vognen og flyktet til fots.
And YHWH destroys Sisera, and all the chariots, and all the camp, by the mouth of the sword, before Barak, and Sisera comes down from off the chariot, and flees on his feet.
16 Men Barak forfulgte vognene og hæren til Haroset-Haggojim, og hele Siseras hær falt for sverdets egg; det blev ikke en eneste tilbake.
And Barak has pursued after the chariots and after the camp, to Harosheth of the nations, and all the camp of Sisera falls by the mouth of the sword—there has not been left even one.
17 Sisera flyktet til fots til Jaels telt; hun var kenitten Hebers hustru, og der var fred mellem Jabin, kongen i Hasor, og kenitten Hebers hus.
And Sisera has fled on his feet to the tent of Jael wife of Heber the Kenite, for [there is] peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite;
18 Da gikk Jael ut mot Sisera og sa til ham: Kom inn, herre, kom inn til mig, frykt ikke! Og han gikk inn i teltet til henne, og hun gjemte ham under teppet.
and Jael goes out to meet Sisera and says to him, “Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me, do not fear”; and he turns aside to her, into the tent, and she covers him with a mantle.
19 Og han sa til henne: Kjære, gi mig litt vann å drikke! Jeg er tørst. Da åpnet hun melkeflasken og lot ham drikke og dekket ham til.
And he says to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty”; and she opens the bottle of milk, and gives him to drink, and covers him.
20 Og han sa til henne: Stå i teltdøren, og dersom det kommer nogen og spør dig: Er det nogen her? da si nei!
And he says to her, “Stand at the opening of the tent, and it has been, if any comes in, and has asked you and said, Is there a man here? That you have said, There is not.”
21 Men Jael, Hebers hustru, tok en teltplugg og gikk sakte inn til ham med en hammer i hånden og slo pluggen gjennem tinningen på ham, så den gikk ned i jorden; for trett som han var, var han falt i tung søvn. Således døde han.
And Jael wife of Heber takes the pin of the tent, and takes the hammer in her hand, and goes to him gently, and strikes the pin into his temples, and it fastens in the earth—and he has been fast asleep, and is weary—and he dies.
22 Da nu Barak forfulgte Sisera, gikk Jael ut imot ham og sa til ham: Kom, så skal jeg vise dig den mann du søker efter. Og han gikk inn til henne, og se, der lå Sisera død med pluggen gjennem tinningen.
And behold, Barak is pursuing Sisera, and Jael comes out to meet him, and says to him, “Come, and I show you the man whom you are seeking”; and he comes to her, and behold, Sisera is fallen—dead, and the pin [is] in his temples.
23 Så ydmyket Gud på denne dag Jabin, Kana'ans konge, for Israels barns øine.
And God humbles Jabin king of Canaan before the sons of Israel on that day,
24 Og Israels barns hånd lå tyngre og tyngre på Jabin, Kana'ans konge, til de helt hadde gjort ende på Jabin, Kana'ans konge.
and the hand of the sons of Israel goes, going on and becoming hard on Jabin king of Canaan, until they have cut off Jabin king of Canaan.
