1 Rop du bare! Er det vel nogen som svarer dig? Og til hvem av de hellige vil du vende dig?
Therefore call, if there are any who will respond to you, and turn to one or another of the saints.
2 For harme slår dåren ihjel, og vrede dreper den tåpelige.
Truly, anger condemns the foolish to death, and envy kills the petty.
3 Jeg så en dåre skyte røtter; men med ett måtte jeg rope ve over hans bolig.
I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I have cursed his excellence without hesitation.
4 Hans barn var uten hjelp; de blev trådt ned i porten, og det var ingen som frelste dem.
His sons will be far from prosperity and will be crushed at the gate, and there will be none who can rescue them.
5 De hungrige åt op hans avling, ja, midt ut av torner hentet de den, og snaren lurte på hans gods.
Their harvest, the starving will eat. The armed man will rob him, and the thirsty will drink his resources.
6 For ikke skyter ulykke op av støvet, og møie spirer ikke frem av jorden;
Nothing on earth occurs without a reason, and sorrow does not rise from the earth.
7 men mennesket fødes til møie, likesom ildens gnister flyver høit i været.
Man is born to labor, and the bird to fly.
8 Men jeg vilde vende mig til Gud og overlate min sak til ham,
Therefore, because of this, I will beg the Lord, and place my eloquence before God.
9 han som gjør store, uransakelige ting, under uten tall,
He does great and unfathomable and miraculous things without number.
10 som sender regn utover jorden og lar vann strømme utover markene,
He gives rain over the face of the earth and irrigates all things with the waters.
11 som ophøier de ringe og lar de sørgende nå frem til frelse,
He places the humble on high and encourages the grieving towards health.
12 som gjør de kløktiges råd til intet, så deres hender ikke får utrettet noget som varer,
He dispels the thoughts of the spiteful, lest their hands be able to complete what they had begun.
13 han som fanger de vise i deres kløkt og lar de listiges råd bli forhastet;
He catches the wise in their cleverness and dissipates the counsel of the perverse.
14 om dagen støter de på mørke, og om middagen famler de som om natten.
They will encounter darkness in the daytime, and they will grope at midday just as in the night.
15 Og således frelser han den fattige fra sverdet, fra deres munn og fra den sterkes hånd,
Thereafter, he will act to save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.
16 og det blir håp for den ringe, og ondskapen må lukke sin munn.
And there will be hope for those in need, for iniquity will diminish its speech.
17 Ja, salig er det menneske Gud refser, og den Allmektiges tukt må du ikke akte ringe!
Blessed is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not reject the chastisement of the Lord.
18 For han sårer, og han forbinder; han slår, og hans hender læger.
For he wounds and he cures; he strikes and his hands will heal.
19 I seks trengsler skal han berge dig, og i den syvende skal intet ondt røre dig.
He will deliver you into six tribulations, and in the seventh, evil will not touch you.
20 I hungersnød frir han dig fra døden og i krig fra sverdets vold.
During famine, he will rescue you from death, and during war, from the hand of the sword.
21 For tungens svepe skal du være skjult, og du skal ikke frykte når ødeleggelsen kommer.
You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not fear calamity when it arrives.
22 Ødeleggelse og hunger skal du le av, og for jordens ville dyr skal du ikke frykte;
In desolation and in famine, you will laugh, and you will not dread the beasts of the earth.
23 for med markens stener står du i pakt, og markens ville dyr holder fred med dig.
For you are in harmony with the stones of the land, and the beasts of the earth will make peace with you.
24 Og du skal få se at ditt telt er trygt, og ser du over din eiendom, skal du intet savne.
And you will know that your home has peace, and, concerning your appearance, you will not sin.
25 Og du skal få se at din ætt blir tallrik, og dine efterkommere som jordens urter.
Likewise, you will know that your offspring will be manifold and your progeny will be like the grass of the earth.
26 Du skal i fullmoden alder gå i graven, likesom kornbånd føres inn sin tid.
You will enter the grave with abundance, just as a crop of wheat is gathered in its time.
27 Se, dette er det vi har utgransket, og således er det. Hør det og merk dig det!
