Jobs 36

1 Og Elihu blev ved og sa:

And Elius further continued, and said,

2 Vent litt på mig, så jeg kan få sagt dig min mening! For ennu er der noget å si til forsvar for Gud.

Wait for me yet a little while, that I may teach you: for there is yet speech in me.

3 Jeg vil hente min kunnskap langt borte fra, og jeg vil vise at min skaper har rett.

Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works,

4 For sannelig, mine ord er ikke falske; en mann med fullkommen kunnskap har du for dig.

I will speak just things truly, and you shall not unjustly receive unjust words.

5 Se, Gud er sterk, men han akter ikke nogen ringe; han er sterk i forstandens kraft.

But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom,

6 Han lar ikke en ugudelig leve, og de undertrykte hjelper han til deres rett.

he will not by any means save alive the ungodly: and he will grant the judgement of the poor.

7 Han tar ikke sine øine fra de rettferdige, og hos konger på tronen lar han dem sitte all deres tid høit hedret.

He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but [they shall be] with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted.

8 Og om de blir bundet med lenker og fanget i ulykkens snarer,

But they that are bound in fetters shall be holden in cords of poverty.

9 så vil han dermed foreholde dem deres gjerninger, deres synder, at de viste sig gjenstridige,

And he shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence.

10 og åpne deres øre for advarselen og formane dem til å vende om fra det onde.

But he will listen to the righteous: and he has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness.

11 Om de da hører og tjener ham, så får de leve sine dager i lykke og sine år i herlighet og glede.

If they should hear and serve [him], they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honour.

12 Hører de ikke, da skal de gjennembores av spydet og omkomme i sin uforstand.

But he preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because when reproved they were disobedient.

13 Men mennesker med gudløst sinn huser vrede; de roper ikke til Gud når han legger dem i bånd.

And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath [against themselves]; they will not cry, because he has bound them.

14 De dør i ungdommen, og deres liv ender som tempel-bolernes.

Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers [of death].

15 Han frelser de ulykkelige ved deres ulykke og åpner deres øre ved trengselen.

Because they afflicted the weak and helpless: and he will vindicate the judgement of the meek.

16 Også dig lokker han ut av trengselens svelg til en åpen plass hvor det ikke er trangt; og ditt bord skal være fullt av fete retter.

And he has also enticed you out of the mouth of the enemy:

17 Men er du full av den ugudeliges brøde, så skal brøde og dom følges at.

[there is] a deep gulf [and] a rushing stream beneath it, and your table came down full of fatness. Judgement shall not fail from the righteous;

18 La bare ikke vrede lokke dig til spott, og la ikke den store bot lokke dig på avvei!

but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities.

19 Kan vel ditt skrik fri dig ut av trengsel, og kan vel alt ditt strev og slit utrette det?

Let not [your] mind willingly turn you aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress.

20 Stund ikke efter natten, den natt da hele folkeslag blåses bort fra sitt sted!

And draw not forth all the mighty [men] by night, so that the people should go up instead of them.

21 Vokt dig, vend dig ikke til synd! For det har du mere lyst til enn til å lide.

But take heed lest you do that which is wrong: for of this you has made choice because of poverty.

22 Se, Gud er ophøiet i sin kraft; hvem er en læremester som han?

Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by his strength: for who is powerful as he is?

23 Hvem har foreskrevet ham hans vei, og hvem kan si: Du gjorde urett?

And who is he that examines his works? or who can say, he has wrought injustice?

24 Kom i hu at du ophøier hans gjerning, den som menneskene har sunget om!

Remember that his works are great [beyond] those which men have attempted.

25 All verden ser på den med lyst; menneskene skuer den langt borte fra.

Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded.

26 Se, Gud er stor, og vi forstår ham ikke; hans års tall er uutgrundelig;

Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know [him]: the number of his years is even infinite.

27 han drar vanndråper op til sig, og av tåken siler regnet ned;

And the drops of rain are numbered by him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud.

28 fra skyene strømmer det og drypper ned over mange mennesker.

The ancient [heavens] shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. [Yet] by all these things your understanding is not astonished, neither is your mind disturbed in [your] body.

29 Kan også nogen forstå hvorledes skyene breder sig ut, hvorledes det braker fra hans telt?

And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, [or] the measure of his tabernacle;

30 Se, han breder ut sitt lys omkring sig og dekker det med havets røtter.

behold he will stretch his bow against him, and he covers the bottom of the sea.

31 For således straffer han folkeslag, men gir også føde i overflod.

For by them he will judge the nations: he will give food to him that has strength.

32 Han dekker sine hender med lys og byder det å fare ut mot fienden.

He has hidden the light in [his] hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing [cloud].

33 Hans tordenbrak bærer bud om ham; endog feet varsler når han rykker frem.

The Lord will declare concerning this [to] his friend: [but there is] a portion also for unrighteousness.
