Esaias 58
1 Rop av strupen, spar ikke! Opløft din røst som en basun og forkynn mitt folk dets overtredelse og Jakobs hus dets synder!
Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and declare unto my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Mig spør de dag for dag, og å få vite mine veier krever de; likesom de var et folk som har gjort rettferdighet og ikke forlatt sin Guds lov, krever de av mig rettferdige dommer; de vil at Gud skal komme nær til dem.
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that doeth righteousness, and hath not forsaken the ordinance of their God; they ask of me the ordinances of righteousness, they take delight in approaching to God:
3 Hvorfor faster vi, og du ser det ikke? Hvorfor plager vi vår sjel, og du akter ikke på det? - Se, på den dag I faster, gjør I eders gjerning, og alle eders arbeidere plager I.
— Wherefore have we fasted, and thou seest not; have afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find what pleaseth [you], and exact all your labours.
4 Se, for å kives og strides faster I, og for å slå med ugudelighets neve; I faster ikke nu således at eders røst kan høres i det høie.
Behold, ye have fasted for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness; ye do not at present fast, to cause your voice to be heard on high.
5 Er dette den faste jeg finner behag i, en dag da et menneske plager sin sjel? At en bøier sitt hode som et siv og reder sin seng i sekk og aske - kaller du det en faste og en dag som behager Herren?
Is such the fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his soul, — that he should bow down his head as a bulrush, and spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? Wilt thou call this a fast, and a day acceptable to Jehovah?
6 Er ikke dette den faste jeg finner behag i, at I løser ugudelighets lenker, sprenger åkets bånd, slipper undertrykte fri og bryter hvert et åk?
Is not this the fast which I have chosen: to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the thongs of the yoke, and to send forth free the crushed, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Mon ikke dette at du bryter ditt brød til den som sulter, og lar hjemløse stakkarer komme i hus - når du ser en naken, at du da klær ham og ikke drar dig bort fra den som er ditt eget kjød?
Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring to thy house the needy wanderers; when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8 Da skal ditt lys bryte frem som morgenrøden, og din lægedom snart spire frem; din rettferdighet skal gå frem for ditt åsyn, og Herrens herlighet slutte ditt tog.
Then shall thy light break forth as the dawn, and thy health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee, the glory of Jehovah shall be thy rearguard.
9 Da skal du påkalle Herren, og han skal svare; da skal du rope, og han skal si: Se, her er jeg! Når du har hvert åk bort fra din midte, lar være å peke fingrer og tale ondt
Then shalt thou call, and Jehovah will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger and the unjust speech,
10 og tar frem til den sultne det som du selv har lyst til, og metter en lidende sjel, da skal ditt lys oprinne i mørket, og din natt bli som middagen.
and thou proffer thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then shall thy light rise in the darkness, and thine obscurity be as midday;
11 Og Herren skal lede dig all tid og mette dig midt i ødemarken, og dine ben skal han styrke, og du skal bli som en vannrik have, som et kildevell der vannet aldri slipper op.
and Jehovah will guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and strengthen thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a water-spring, whose waters deceive not.
12 Og sønner av dig skal bygge op igjen ruinene fra gammel tid; grunnvoller som har ligget der fra slekt til slekt, skal du gjenreise, og de skal kalle dig murbrudds tilmurer, den som setter veier i stand, så folk kan bo i landet.
And they [that come] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations [that have remained] from generation to generation; and thou shalt be called, Repairer of the breaches, restorer of frequented paths.
13 Når du holder din fot tilbake fra sabbaten, så du ikke driver ditt yrke på min hellige dag, og du kaller sabbaten en lyst, kaller Herrens hellige dag ærverdig, og du ærer den, så du ikke går dine egne veier, ikke gjør din gjerning eller fører tomt snakk -
If thou turn back thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the sabbath a delight, the holy [day] of Jehovah, honourable; and thou honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [idle] words;
14 da skal du glede dig i Herren, og jeg vil la dig fare frem over landets høider og la dig nyte Jakobs, din fars arv; for Herrens munn har talt.
then shalt thou delight thyself in Jehovah, and I will cause thee to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.
