Esaias 41
1 Ti og hør på mig, I øer! Og folkene, la dem iføre sig ny kraft, la dem komme hit og så tale! La oss sammen trede frem for retten!
Hold a feast to me, you islands: for the princes shall renew [their] strength: let them draw near and speak together: then let them declare judgement.
2 Hvem vakte fra Østen ham som seieren møter hvor han setter sin fot? Han gir folkeslag i hans vold og lar ham herske over konger, gjør deres sverd til støv, deres bue til strå som føres bort av vinden.
Who raised up righteousness from the east, [and] called it to his feet, so that it should go? shall appoint [it] an adversary of Gentiles, and shall dismay kings, and bury their swords in the earth, and cast forth their bows and arrows as sticks?
3 Han forfølger dem, drar frem i sikkerhet på en sti hvor han før ikke kom med sine føtter.
And he shall pursue them; the way of his feet shall proceed in peace.
4 Hvem utrettet og gjorde dette? - Han som kalte slektene frem fra begynnelsen; jeg, Herren, er den første, og hos de siste er jeg også.
Who has wrought and done these things? he has called it who called it from the generations of old; I God, the first and to [all] futurity, I AM.
5 Øene ser det og frykter, jordens ender bever; de rykker frem og kommer.
The nations saw, and feared; the ends of the earth drew near, and came together,
6 Den ene hjelper den andre, og til sin bror sier han: Vær frimodig!
every one judging for his neighbour and [that] to assist his brother: and one will say,
7 Treskjæreren setter mot i gullsmeden, den som glatter med hammeren, i den som hamrer på ambolten, og han sier om loddingen: Den er god, og han fester billedet med spiker, forat det skal stå støtt.
The artificer has become strong, and the coppersmith that smites with the hammer, [and] forges also: sometimes he will say, It is a piece well joined: they have fastened them with nails; they will fix them, and they shall not be moved.
8 Og du Israel, min tjener, Jakob, som jeg utvalgte, ætling av min venn Abraham!
But you, Israel, are my servant Jacob, and he whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraam, whom I have loved:
9 Du som jeg tok ved hånden og hentet fra jordens ender og kalte fra dens ytterste kanter, og til hvem jeg sa: Du er min tjener, jeg har utvalgt dig og ikke forkastet dig!
whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and from the high places of it I have called you, and said to you, You are my servant; I have chosen you, and I have not forsaken you.
10 Frykt ikke, for jeg er med dig! Se dig ikke engstelig om, for jeg er din Gud! Jeg styrker dig og hjelper dig og holder dig oppe med min rettferds høire hånd.
Fear not; for I am with you: wander not; for I am your God, who have strengthened you; and I have helped you, and have established you with my just right hand.
11 Se, de skal bli til spott og skam alle de som harmes på dig; de skal bli til intet og gå til grunne de menn som tretter med dig;
Behold, all your adversaries shall be ashamed and confounded; for they shall be as if they were not: and all your opponents shall perish.
12 du skal søke dem og ikke finne dem, de menn som kives med dig; de skal bli til intet og til ingenting de menn som fører krig mot dig.
You shall seek them, and you shall not find the men who shall insolently rage against you: for they shall be as if they were not, and they that war against you shall not be.
13 For jeg er Herren din Gud, som holder dig fast ved din høire hånd, som sier til dig: Frykt ikke! Jeg hjelper dig.
For I am your God, who holds your right hand, who says to you,
14 Frykt ikke, Jakob, du usle makk, du Israels lille flokk! Jeg hjelper dig, sier Herren, og din gjenløser er Israels Hellige.
Fear not, Jacob, [and you] Israel few in number; I have helped you, says your God, he that redeems you, O Israel.
15 Se, jeg gjør dig til en skarp, ny treskevogn med mange tagger; du skal treske fjell og knuse dem, og hauger skal du gjøre til agner.
Behold, I have made you as new saw-shaped threshing wheels of a waggon; and you shall thresh the mountains, and beat the hills to powder, and make [them] as chaff:
16 Du skal kaste dem med skovl, og vind skal føre dem bort, og storm skal sprede dem; men du skal fryde dig i Herren, rose dig av Israels Hellige.
and you shall winnow [them], and the wind shall carry them away, and a tempest shall scatter them: but you shall rejoice in the holy ones of Israel.
17 De elendige og fattige søker efter vann, men det er ikke noget; deres tunge brenner av tørst. Jeg, Herren, jeg vil svare dem; jeg, Israels Gud, jeg vil ikke forlate dem.
And the poor and the needy shall exult; for [when] they shall seek water, and there shall be none, [and] their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord God, I the God of Israel will hear, and will not forsake them:
18 Jeg vil la elver velle frem på bare hauger og kilder midt i daler; jeg vil gjøre en ørken til en sjø og et tørt land til vannrike kilder;
but I will open rivers on the mountains, and fountains in the midst of plains: I will make the desert pools of water, and a thirsty land watercourses.
19 Jeg vil la sedrer, akasier, myrter og oljetrær vokse frem i ørkenen; jeg vil la cypress, lønn og buksbom sammen gro på den øde mark,
I will plant in the dry land the cedar and box, the myrtle and cypress, and white poplar:
20 forat de alle sammen skal se og kjenne og legge sig på hjerte og forstå at Herrens hånd har gjort dette, og Israels Hellige skapt det.
that they may see, and know, and perceive, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has wrought these [works], and the Holy One of Israel has displayed [them].
21 Kom hit med eders sak, sier Herren; kom frem med eders bevisgrunner, sier Jakobs konge.
Your judgement draws near, says the Lord God; your counsels have drawn near, says the King of Jacob.
22 La dem komme frem med dem og kunngjøre for oss hvad som skal hende! Kunngjør hvad det er I tidligere har spådd, så vi kan akte på det og lære dets utfall å kjenne! Eller la oss høre de tilkommende ting!
Let them draw near, and declare to you what things shall come to pass; or tell [us] what things were of old, and we will apply [our] understanding, and we shall know what are the last and the future things:
23 Kunngjør hvad som skal komme herefter, så vi kan vite at I er guder! Ja, gjør noget godt eller noget ondt, så vi med forundring kan se det alle sammen!
tell us, declare you to us the things that are coming on at the last [time], and we shall know that you are gods: do good, and do evil, and we shall wonder, and see at the same time
24 Se, I er intet, og eders gjerning ingenting; en vederstyggelighet er den som velger eder.
whence you are, and whence is your works: they have chosen you an abomination out of the earth.
25 Jeg vakte ham fra Norden, og han kom, fra solens opgang han som skal påkalle mitt navn; han skal trampe på fyrster som de var ler, lik en pottemaker som elter dynd.
But I have raised up him that [comes] from the north, and him that [comes] from the rising of the sun: they shall be called by my name: let the princes come, and as potter's clay, and as a potter treading clay, so shall you be trodden down.
26 Hvem har kunngjort dette fra begynnelsen, så vi kunde vite det, og fra fordums tid, så vi kunde si: Han har rett? Ingen har kunngjort noget, ingen har forkynt noget, og ingen har hørt eder si noget.
For who will declare the things from the beginning, that we may know also the former things, and we will say that they are true? there is no one that speaks beforehand, nor anyone that hears your words.
27 Jeg er den første som sier til Sion: Se, se, der er de, og som sender Jerusalem et gledesbud.
I will give dominion to Sion, and will comfort Jerusalem by the way.
28 Jeg ser mig om, men der er ingen, og ingen av dem kan gi råd, så jeg kunde spørre dem, og de gi mig svar.
For from amongst the nations, behold, [there was] no one; and of their idols there was none to declare [anything]: and if I should ask them, Whence are you? they could not answer me.
29 Se dem alle! Deres gjerninger er intet, ingenting; deres billeder er vind og tomhet.
For [these] are your makers, [as you think], and they that cause you to err in vain.
