1 Mosebok 12
1 Og Herren sa til Abram: Dra bort fra ditt land og fra din slekt og fra din fars hus til det land som jeg vil vise dig!
And the Lord said to Abram, Go forth out of your land and out of your kindred, and out of the house of your father, and come into the land which I will show you.
2 Og jeg vil gjøre dig til et stort folk; jeg vil velsigne dig og gjøre ditt navn stort, og du skal bli en velsignelse!
And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and magnify your name, and you shall be blessed.
3 Og jeg vil velsigne dem som velsigner dig, og den som forbanner dig, vil jeg forbanne; og i dig skal alle jordens slekter velsignes
And I will bless those that bless you, and curse those that curse you, and in you shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.
4 Så drog Abram bort som Herren hadde sagt til ham, og Lot drog med ham. Og Abram var fem og sytti år gammel da han drog ut fra Karan.
And Abram went as the Lord spoke to him, and Lot departed with him, and Abram was seventy-five years old, when he went out of Charrhan.
5 Og Abram tok med sig Sarai, sin hustru, og Lot, sin brorsønn, og all deres eiendom som de hadde vunnet, og de folk som de hadde fått i Karan; og de drog ut for å reise til Kana'ans land, og de kom til Kana'ans land.
And Abram took Sara his wife, and Lot the son of his brother, and all their possessions, as many as they had got, and every soul which they had got in Charrhan, and they went forth to go into the land of Chanaan.
6 Og Abram drog gjennem landet til Sikem-bygden, til Mores terebintelund; og kana'anittene bodde dengang der i landet.
And Abram traversed the land lengthwise as far as the place Sychem, to the high oak, and the Chananites then inhabited the land.
7 Da åpenbarte Herren sig for Abram og sa: Din ætt vil jeg gi dette land. Og han bygget der et alter for Herren, som hadde åpenbaret sig for ham.
And the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, I will give this land to your seed. And Abram built an altar there to the Lord who appeared to him.
8 Derfra flyttet han til fjellene østenfor Betel og slo op sitt telt med Betel i vest og Ai i øst; og han bygget der et alter for Herren og påkalte Herrens navn.
And he departed thence to the mountain eastward of Baethel, and there he pitched his tent in Baethel near the sea, and Aggai towards the east, and there he built an altar to the Lord, and called on the name of the Lord.
9 Og Abram drog efter hvert videre til sydlandet.
And Abram departed and went and encamped in the wilderness.
10 Så blev det hungersnød i landet; og Abram drog ned til Egypten for å opholde sig der, for hungersnøden var stor i landet.
And there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine prevailed in the land.
11 Og da han ikke hadde langt igjen til Egypten, sa han til Sarai, sin hustru: Jeg vet jo at du er en vakker kvinne.
And it came to pass when Abram drew near to enter into Egypt, Abram said to Sara his wife, I know that you are a fair woman.
12 Når nu egypterne får se dig, vil de si: Dette er hans hustru, og så slår de mig ihjel og lar dig leve.
It shall come to pass then that when the Egyptians shall see you, they shall say, This is his wife, and they shall kill me, but they shall save you alive.
13 Kjære, si at du er min søster, så det kan gå mig vel, og mitt liv kan bli spart for din skyld!
Say, therefore, I am his sister, that it may be well with me on account of you, and my soul shall live because of you.
14 Da nu Abram kom til Egypten, så egypterne at kvinnen var meget vakker.
And it came to pass when Abram entered into Egypt—the Egyptians having seen his wife that she was very beautiful—
15 Også Faraos høvdinger så henne og roste henne for Farao, og så blev kvinnen hentet til Faraos hus.
that the princes of Pharao saw her, and praised her to Pharao and brought her into the house of Pharao.
16 Og han gjorde vel imot Abram for hennes skyld, og han fikk både småfe og storfe og asener og træler og trælkvinner og aseninner og kameler.
And they treated Abram well on her account, and he had sheep, and calves, and asses, and menservants, and women-servants, and mules, and camels.
17 Men Herren hjemsøkte Farao og hans hus med store plager for Abrams hustru Sarais skyld.
And God afflicted Pharao with great and severe afflictions, and his house, because of Sara, Abram's wife.
18 Da kalte Farao Abram til sig og sa: Hvad er det du har gjort imot mig? Hvorfor lot du mig ikke vite at hun er din hustru?
And Pharao having called Abram, said, What is this you have done to me, that you did not tell me that she was your wife?
19 Hvorfor sa du: Hun er min søster, så jeg tok henne til hustru? Se, her har du din hustru, ta henne og gå!
Therefore did you say, She is my sister? and I took her for a wife to myself; and now, behold, your wife is before you, take her and go quickly away.
20 Og Farao gav nogen menn befaling til å følge ham på veien med hans hustru og alt det han eide.
And Pharao gave charge to men concerning Abram, to join in sending him forward, and his wife, and all that he had.
