2 Mosebok 5

1 Derefter gikk Moses og Aron inn til Farao og sa: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: La mitt folk fare, så de kan holde høitid for mig i ørkenen!

Then afterwarde Moses and Aaron went and said to Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may celebrate a feast vnto me in the wildernesse.

2 Men Farao sa: Hvem er Herren som jeg skal lyde og la Israel fare? Jeg kjenner ikke Herren, og heller ikke vil jeg la Israel fare.

And Pharaoh saide, Who is the Lord, that I should heare his voyce, and let Israel go? I knowe not the Lord, neither will I let Israel goe.

3 Da sa de: Hebreernes Gud har møtt oss; la oss dra tre dagsreiser ut i ørkenen og ofre til Herren vår Gud, så han ikke skal slå oss med pest eller sverd!

And they saide, We worship the God of the Ebrewes: we pray thee, let vs goe three daies iourney in the desert, and sacrifice vnto the Lord our God, least he bring vpon vs the pestilence or sword.

4 Men kongen i Egypten sa til dem: Hvorfor vil I, Moses og Aron, dra folket fra dets arbeid? Gå og gjør det I skal!

Then saide the King of Egypt vnto them, Moses and Aaron, why cause ye the people to cease from their workes? get you to your burdens.

5 Så sa Farao: Se, folket er nu blitt altfor tallrikt i landet, og så vil I dra dem bort fra det de har å gjøre!

Pharaoh saide furthermore, Behold, much people is nowe in the lande, and ye make them leaue their burdens.

6 Og samme dag bød Farao arbeidsfogdene og opsynsmennene over folket og sa:

Therefore Pharaoh gaue commandement the same day vnto the taskemasters of the people, and to their officers, saying,

7 I skal ikke mere gi folket halm til teglarbeidet, som før; de skal selv gå og sanke sig halm.

Ye shall giue the people no more strawe, to make bricke (as in time past) but let them goe and gather them strawe them selues:

8 Men den samme mengde teglsten som de før har gjort, skal I pålegge dem; I skal ikke avkorte noget i deres arbeid. For de er dovne; derfor skriker de og sier: La oss gå og ofre til vår Gud!

Notwithstanding lay vpon them the nober of bricke, which they made in time past, diminish nothing thereof: for they be idle, therefore they crie, saying, Let vs go to offer sacrifice vnto our God.

9 Legg tungt arbeid på disse mennesker, så de har nok med det og ikke hører efter løgnaktige ord!

Lay more worke vpon the men, and cause them to do it, and let the not regard vaine words.

10 Da gikk arbeidsfogdene og opsynsmennene ut og sa til folket: Så sier Farao: Jeg gir eder ikke lenger halm.

Then went the taskemasters of the people and their officers out, and tolde the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will giue you no more strawe.

11 Gå selv og finn eder halm, hvor I kan; Men i eders arbeid skal det ikke avkortes noget.

Goe your selues, get you strawe where yee can finde it, yet shall nothing of your labour bee diminished.

12 Da spredte folket sig over hele Egyptens land for å sanke stubber til å bruke istedenfor halm.

Then were the people scattered abroade throughout all the land of Egypt, for to gather stubble in steade of strawe.

13 Men arbeidsfogdene drev på og sa: Gjør eders arbeid ferdig, fullt dagsverk for hver dag, likesom dengang I hadde halm.

And the taskemasters hasted them, saying, Finish your dayes worke euery dayes taske, as ye did when ye had strawe.

14 Og opsynsmennene som Faraos arbeidsfogder hadde satt over Israels barn, fikk hugg, og arbeidsfogdene sa til dem: Hvorfor har I ikke gjort ferdig den fastsatte mengde teglsten, likesom før, hverken igår eller idag?

And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaohs taskemasters had set ouer them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore haue ye not fulfilled your taske in making bricke yesterday and to daye, as in times past?

15 Da gikk opsynsmennene over Israels barn til Farao og klaget høilydt for ham og sa: Hvorfor gjør du således med dine tjenere?

Then the officers of the children of Israel came, and cryed vnto Pharaoh, saying, Wherfore dealest thou thus with thy seruants?

16 Dine tjenere får ikke halm, og allikevel sier de til oss: Gjør tegl! Og så får dine tjenere hugg, enda det er ditt eget folk som har skylden.

There is no strawe giuen to thy seruantes, and they say vnto vs, Make bricke: and loe, thy seruants are beaten, and thy people is blamed.

17 Men han sa: Dovne er I, dovne! Derfor sier I: Vi vil gå og ofre til Herren.

But he said, Ye are to much idle: therfore ye say, Let vs goe to offer sacrifice to the Lord.

18 Så gå nu og arbeid! Halm får I ikke, men den fastsatte mengde tegl skal I komme med.

Goe therefore nowe and worke: for there shall no strawe be giuen you, yet shall yee deliuer the whole tale of bricke.

19 Israels barns opsynsmenn så at de var ille farne, da det blev sagt til dem: I skal ikke avkorte noget i den teglsten I skal ha ferdig - fullt dagsverk for hver dag!

Then the officers of the children of Israel sawe them selues in an euill case, because it was saide, Ye shall diminish nothing of your bricke, nor of euery dayes taske.

20 Og da de kom ut fra Farao, møtte de Moses og Aron, som stod og ventet på dem.

And they met Moses and Aaron, which stood in their way as they came out from Pharaoh,

21 Og de sa til dem: Herren hjemsøke eder og dømme eder fordi I har ført oss i vanrykte hos Farao og hans tjenere, så I har gitt dem sverd i hånden til å slå oss ihjel.

To whom they said, The Lord looke vpon you and iudge: for yee haue made our sauour to stinke before Pharaoh and before his seruants, in that ye haue put a sword in their hand to slay vs.

22 Da vendte Moses sig igjen til Herren og sa: Herre, hvorfor har du gjort så ille med dette folk? Hvorfor har du sendt mig?

Wherefore Moses returned to the Lord, and saide, Lord, why hast thou afflicted this people? wherefore hast thou thus sent me?

23 For fra den stund jeg gikk inn til Farao for å tale i ditt navn, har han gjort ille mot dette folk, og du har aldeles ikke hjulpet ditt folk.

For since I came to Pharaoh to speake in thy Name, he hath vexed this people, and yet thou hast not deliuered thy people.
