Esters 6
1 Den natt fikk kongen ikke sove; han bød derfor å hente krønikeboken, som de minneverdige hendelser var optegnet i, og den blev oplest for kongen.
On that night sleep fled from the king. And he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
2 Der fant de optegnet at Mordekai hadde meldt hvorledes Bigtana og Teres, to av de hoffmenn hos kongen som holdt vakt ved dørtreskelen, hadde søkt å legge hånd på kong Ahasverus.
And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, keepers of the threshold, who had sought to lay hand on king Ahasuerus.
3 Kongen spurte da: Hvad ære og ophøielse er det blitt Mordekai til del for dette? Kongens tjenere svarte: Han har ikke fått nogen ting.
And the king said, What honour and dignity has been done to Mordecai for this? And the king's servants that attended upon him said, Nothing has been done for him.
4 Så sa kongen: Hvem er det som er ute i gården? Da var Haman just kommet inn i den ytre gård til kongens hus for å be kongen om at Mordekai måtte bli hengt i den galge han hadde gjort i stand for ham.
And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman had come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak to the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5 Kongens tjenere svarte: Det er Haman som står der ute i gården. Kongen så: La ham komme inn!
And the king's servants said to him, Behold, Haman is standing in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
6 Da nu Haman kom inn, spurte kongen ham: Hvad skal det gjøres med den mann kongen har lyst til å ære? Da tenkte Haman ved sig selv: Hvem skulde kongen ha mere lyst til å vise ære enn mig?
So Haman came in. And the king said to him, What is to be done with the man whom the king delights to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to me?
7 Og han sa til kongen: Er det en mann kongen har lyst til å ære,
And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delights to honour,
8 så la det bli hentet en kongelig klædning som kongen selv har båret, og en hest som kongen selv har ridd på, og på hvis hode det er satt en kongelig krone,
let the royal apparel be brought with which the king arrays himself, and the horse that the king rides upon, and on the head of which the royal crown is set;
9 og la så klædningen og hesten bli overgitt til en av kongens fornemste fyrster, og han skal la den mann kongen har lyst til å ære, få klædningen på og la ham ride på hesten gjennem byens gater og rope foran ham: Således gjøres det med den mann som kongen har lyst til å ære!
and let the apparel and horse be delivered into the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, and let them array the man whom the king delights to honour, and cause him to ride on the horse through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honour!
10 Da sa kongen til Haman: Skynd dig, ta klædningen og hesten, som du har sagt, og gjør således med jøden Mordekai, som sitter i kongens port! La intet bli forsømt av alt det du har sagt!
And the king said to Haman, Make haste, take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast said.
11 Haman tok klædningen og hesten og gav Mordekai klædningen på og lot ham ride gjennem byens gater og ropte foran ham: Således gjøres det med den mann som kongen har lyst til å ære!
And Haman took the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and caused him to ride through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honour!
12 Så vendte Mordekai tilbake til kongens port; men Haman skyndte sig hjem, sorgfull og med tildekket hode.
And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house, mourning and having his head covered.
13 Han fortalte sin hustru Seres og alle sine venner alt det som hadde hendt ham; da sa hans vismenn og hans hustru Seres til ham: Hvis Mordekai, som du har begynt å stå tilbake for, er av jødisk ætt, da formår du intet mot ham, men vil komme til å stå aldeles tilbake for ham.
And Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and to all his friends all that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife to him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but wilt certainly fall before him.
14 Mens de ennu talte med ham, kom kongens hoffmenn for i all hast å føre Haman til det gjestebud Ester hadde stelt til.
While they were yet talking with him, the king's chamberlains came, and hasted to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
