1 Så tok vi på en annen kant og drog op på veien til Basan; da drog Og, kongen i Basan, og hele hans folk ut mot oss til strid, til Edre'i.
Then we turned and went up the way to Bashan. Og, the king of Bashan, came and attacked us, he and all his people, to fight at Edrei.
2 Og Herren sa til mig: Frykt ikke for ham! For jeg har gitt ham og hele hans folk og hans land i din hånd, og du skal gjøre med ham som du gjorde med Sihon, amorittenes konge, som bodde i Hesbon.
Yahweh said to me, 'Do not fear him; for I have given you victory over him and have put all his people and his land under your control. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.'
3 Så gav Herren vår Gud også Og, kongen i Basan, og hele hans folk i vår hånd; og vi slo ham så vi ikke lot nogen bli tilbake eller slippe unda.
So Yahweh our God also gave us victory over Og the king of Bashan, and all his people were put under our control. We struck them down until not one of his people remained.
4 Og vi inntok dengang alle hans byer; der var ikke en by uten at vi tok den fra dem, seksti byer, hele Argob-landet, Ogs rike i Basan.
We took all his cities at that time. There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from them—all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

These were all cities fortified with high walls, gates, and bars; this was besides very many unwalled villages.

We completely destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, completely destroying every city—men and the women and the little ones.

But all the cattle and the spoil of the cities, we took as spoils for ourselves.
8 Således tok vi dengang landet fra begge amoritterkongene på denne side av Jordan, fra Arnon-åen like til fjellet Hermon -
At that time we took the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, from the Valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon

I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, 'Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to these two kings; Yahweh will do the same to all the kingdoms where you go over.
22 I skal ikke være redde for dem; for Herren eders Gud vil selv stride for eder.
You will not fear them, for Yahweh your God is the one who will fight for you.'
23 For jeg bønnfalt dengang Herren og sa:
I implored Yahweh at that time, saying,

'O Lord Yahweh, you have begun to show your servant your greatness and your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or in earth that can do the same works as you have done, and the same mighty acts?

Let me go over, I beg you, and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country, and also Lebanon.'

But Yahweh was angry with me because of you; he did not listen to me. Yahweh said to me, 'Let this be enough for you—speak no more to me about this matter:
27 Gå op på Pisgas topp og løft dine øine mot vest og mot nord og mot syd og mot øst, og se vidt omkring dig! For over Jordan her skal du ikke komme.
go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes westward, northward, southward, and eastward; look with your eyes, for you will not go over the Jordan.
28 Og gi Josva befaling og gjør ham frimodig og sterk! For han skal føre dette folk over, og han skal gi dem til arv det land du skal skue.
Instead, instruct Joshua and encourage and strengthen him, for he will go over before this people, and he will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.'
29 Så blev vi da i dalen midt imot Bet-Peor.
