2 Kongebok 7

1 Da sa Elisa: Hør Herrens ord! Så sier Herren: Imorgen ved denne tid skal et mål fint mel være å få for en sekel og likeså to mål bygg for en sekel i Samarias port.

Then Elisha saide, Heare ye the worde of the Lord: thus saith the Lord, To morowe this time a measure of fine floure shalbe solde for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria.

2 Men den høvedsmann hvis hånd kongen støttet sig på, svarte den Guds mann: Om så Herren gjorde luker på himmelen, hvorledes skulde slikt kunne hende? Han svarte: Du skal få se det med egne øine, men ikke få ete derav.

Then a prince, on whose hande the King leaned, answered the man of God, and saide, Though the Lord would make windowes in the heauen, could this thing come to passe? And he said, Beholde, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not eate thereof.

3 Foran byporten var det fire spedalske menn; de sa til hverandre: Hvorfor skal vi bli sittende her til vi dør?

Nowe there were foure leprous men at the entring in of the gate: and they saide one to an other, Why sitte we here vntill we die?

4 Sier vi: Vi vil gå inn i byen, så er det hungersnød i byen, og vi må dø der, og blir vi sittende her, må vi også dø; så kom nu og la oss gå over til syrernes leir! Lar de oss leve, så lever vi, og dreper de oss, sa dør vi.

If we say, We will enter into the citie, the famine is in the citie, and we shall die there: and if we sit here, we dye also. Nowe therefore come, and let vs fall into the campe of the Aramites: if they saue our liues, we shall liue: and if they kill vs, we are but dead.

5 Så stod de op i aftenskumringen for å gå inn i syrernes leir; og da de kom til utkanten av syrernes leir, fantes det ikke en mann der.

So they rose vp in the twilight, to goe to the campe of the Aramites: and when they were come to the vtmost part of the campe of the Aramites, loe, there was no man there.

6 For Herren hadde latt syrernes leir høre lyd av vogner og hester, lyden av en stor hær; da sa de til hverandre: Du skal se Israels konge har leid hetittenes konger og Egyptens konger mot oss til å overfalle oss.

For the Lord had caused the campe of the Aramites to heare a noyse of charets and a noise of horses, and a noise of a great armie, so that they sayde one to another, Beholde, the King of Israel hath hired against vs the Kings of the Hittites, and the Kings of the Egyptians to come vpon vs.

7 Og de brøt op i aftenskumringen og flyktet; de forlot sine telt og sine hester og asener, hele leiren som den stod der, og flyktet for å berge livet.

Wherefore they arose, and fled in the twilight, and left their tentes and their horses, and their asses, euen the campe as it was, and fledde for their liues.

8 Da nu de spedalske kom til utkanten av leiren, gikk de inn i et telt og åt og drakk, og de tok sølv og gull og klær der og gikk bort og skjulte det; derefter vendte de tilbake og gikk inn i et annet telt og tok hvad der var, og gikk bort og skjulte det.

And when these lepers came to the vtmost part of the campe, they entred into one tent, and did eate and drinke, and caryed thence siluer and golde, and raiment, and went and hid it: after they returned, and entred into another tent, and caryed thence also, and went and hid it.

9 Men så sa de til hverandre: Det er ikke rett det vi gjør; idag kan vi bære frem et gledelig budskap; tier vi stille og venter til morgenen gryr, så faller det skyld på oss; så kom nu og la oss gå inn og melde det i kongens hus!

Then saide one to another, We doe not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we holde our peace. if we tary till day light, some mischiefe will come vpon vs. Nowe therefore, come, let vs goe, and tell the Kings housholde.

10 Så kom de og ropte til vakten ved byporten og fortalte det og sa: Vi kom til syrernes leir; det var ikke en mann å se eller lyden av et menneske å høre, men hestene og asenene stod bundet, og teltene var som de pleier å være.

So they came, and called vnto the porters of the citie, and tolde them, saying, We came to the campe of the Aramites, and loe, there was no man there, neither voyce of man, but horses tyed and asses tyed: and the tents are as they were.

11 Portvokterne ropte det ut, og det blev meldt helt inn i kongens hus.

And the porters cryed and declared to the Kings house within.

12 Da stod kongen op om natten og sa til sine menn: Jeg skal si eder hvad syrerne har gjort mot oss; de vet at vi lider hunger, derfor har de draget ut av leiren for å skjule sig på marken og tenker som så: Når de nu drar ut av byen, så griper vi dem levende, og så kan vi komme inn i byen.

Then the King arose in the night, and saide vnto his seruants, I wil shew you now, what the Aramites haue done vnto vs. They know that we are affamished, therefore they are gone out of the campe to hide them selues in the fielde, saying, When they come out of the citie, we shall catch them aliue, and get into the citie.

13 Men en av hans menn svarte: La nogen av dine folk ta fem av de hester som ennu er tilbake her i byen! Det kan jo ikke gå dem verre enn hele mengden av israelitter som ennu er tilbake her, eller verre enn hele mengden av israelitter som er omkommet. Og la oss så sende dem avsted, så får vi se!

And one of his seruants answered, and said, Let me take now fiue of the horses that remaine, and are left in the citie, (behold, they are euen as all the multitude of Israel that are left therein: beholde, I say, they are as the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed) and we wil send to see.

14 Da tok de to vogner med hester for, og kongen sendte dem efter syrernes hær og sa: Dra avsted og se hvordan det har sig!

So they tooke two charets of horses, and the King sent after the hoste of the Aramites, saying, Goe and see.

15 Så drog de efter dem like til Jordan og fant hele veien full av klær og andre ting som syrerne hadde kastet fra sig da de i angst ilte avsted; og sendebudene vendte tilbake og meldte det til kongen.

And they went after them vnto Iorden, and loe, all the way was full of clothes and vessels which the Aramites had cast from them in their hast: and the messengers returned, and told ye King.

16 Så gikk folket ut og plyndret syrernes leir; da blev et mål fint mel å få for en sekel og likeså to mål bygg for en sekel, efter Herrens ord.

Then the people went out and spoyled the campe of the Aramites: so a measure of fine floure was at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel according to the word of the Lord.

17 Kongen hadde satt den høvedsmann hvis hånd han støttet sig på, til å ha opsyn med porten; men folket trådte ham ned i porten, så han døde, således som den Guds mann hadde sagt - som han hadde sagt dengang kongen kom ned til ham.

And the King gaue the prince (on whose hande he leaned) the charge of the gate, and the people trode vpon him in the gate, and he dyed, as the man of God had saide, which spake it, when the King came downe to him.

18 For da den Guds mann sa til kongen: Imorgen ved denne tid skal to mål bygg være å få for en sekel og likeså et mål fint mel for en sekel i Samarias port,

And it came to passe, as the man of God had spoken to the King, saying, Two measures of barley at a shekel, and a measure of fine floure shall be at a shekel, to morowe about this time in the gate of Samaria.

19 da svarte høvedsmannen den Guds mann: Om så Herren gjorde luker på himmelen, hvorledes skulde det kunne gå således til? Han svarte: Du skal få se det med egne øine, men ikke få ete derav.

But the prince had answered the man of God, and saide, Though the Lord would make windowes in the heauen, coulde it come so to passe? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not eate thereof.

20 Og således gikk det ham; folket trådte ham ned i porten, så han døde.

And so it came vnto him: for the people trode vpon him in the gate, and he dyed.
