2 Kongebok 19
1 Da kong Esekias hørte det, sønderrev han sine klær og klædde sig i sekk og gikk inn i Herrens hus.
And it came to pass when king Ezekias heard it, that he tore his clothes, and put on sackcloth, an went into the house of the Lord.
2 Og han sendte slottshøvdingen Eljakim og statsskriveren Sebna og de eldste blandt prestene, klædd i sekk, til profeten Esaias, Amos' sønn.
And he sent Heliakim the steward, and Somnas the scribe, and the elders of the priests, clothed with sackcloth, to Esaias the prophet the son of Amos.
3 Og de sa til ham: Så sier Esekias: En nødens og tuktelsens og vanærens dag er denne dag; barnet er kommet til modermunnen, men det er ingen kraft til å føde.
And they said to him, Thus says Ezekias, This day [is] a day of tribulation, and rebuke, and provocation: for the children are come to the travail-[pangs], but the mother has no strength.
4 Kanskje Herren din Gud vil høre alt det Rabsake har sagt, han som hans herre, kongen i Assyria, har sendt for å håne den levende Gud, så at han straffer ham for de ord Herren din Gud har hørt. Opsend da en bønn for den levning som ennu er iglen!
Peradventure the Lord your God will hear all the words of Rapsakes, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God and to revile him with the words which the Lord your God has heard: and you shall offer [your] prayer for the remnant that is found.
5 Da kong Esekias' tjenere kom til Esaias,
So the servants of king Ezekias came to Esaias.
6 sa Esaias til dem: Så skal I si til eders herre: Så sier Herren: Frykt ikke for de ord du hørte, de som assyrerkongens tjenere hånte mig med!
And Esaias said to them, Thus shall you say to your master, Thus says the Lord, Be not afraid of the words which you have heard, wherewith the servants of the king of the Assyrians have blasphemed.
7 Se, jeg vil inngi ham et sådant sinn at han for et rykte han får høre, vender tilbake til sitt land; og jeg vil la ham falle for sverdet i sitt land.
Behold, I send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a report, and shall return to his own land; and I will overthrow him with the sword in his own land.
8 Da Rabsake vendte tilbake, fant han assyrerkongen i ferd med å stride mot Libna; for han hadde hørt at han hadde brutt op fra Lakis.
So Rapsakes returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Lobna: for he heard that he [had] departed from Lachis.
9 Da hørte kongen si om Tirhaka, kongen i Etiopia, at han hadde draget ut for å stride mot ham. Så sendte han atter bud til Esekias og sa:
And he heard concerning Tharaca king of the Ethiopians, saying, Behold, he is come forth to fight with you: and he returned, and sent messengers to Ezekias, saying,
10 Så skal I si til Judas konge Esekias: La ikke din Gud, som du setter din lit til, få narret dig, så du tenker som så: Jerusalem skal ikke gis i assyrerkongens hånd.
Let not your God on whom you trust encourage you, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hands of the king of the Assyrians.
11 Du har hørt hvad kongene i Assyria har gjort med alle landene, at de har ødelagt dem, og du skulde bli reddet?
Behold, you have heard all that the kings of the Assyrians have done in all the lands, to waste them utterly: and shall you be delivered?
12 Har vel folkenes guder frelst dem som mine fedre ødela, Gosan og Karan og Resef og Edens barn i Telassar?
Have the gods of the nations at all delivered them, whom my fathers destroyed; both Gozan, and Charran, and Raphis, and the sons of Edem who were in Thaesthen?
13 Hvor er nu Hamats konge og Arpads konge og byen Sefarva'ims konge, Henas og Ivvas konger?
Where is the king of Haemath, and the king of Arphad? and where is the king of the city of Seppharvaim, of Ana, and Aba?
14 Da Esekias hadde mottatt brevet av sendebudene og lest det, gikk han op til Herrens hus, og der bredte Esekias det ut for Herrens åsyn.
And Ezekias took the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and he went up to the house of the Lord, and Ezekias spread it before the Lord,
15 Og Esekias bad for Herrens åsyn og sa: Herre, Israels Gud, du som troner på kjerubene! Du alene er Gud for alle jordens riker, du har gjort himmelen og jorden.
and said, O Lord God of Israel that dwell over the cherubs, you are the only god in all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.
16 Herre, bøi ditt øre til og hør! Herre, oplat dine øine og se! Hør de ord som Sankerib har sendt for å håne den levende Gud!
Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear: open, Lord, your eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherim, which he has sent to reproach the living God.
17 Det er sant, Herre, at kongene i Assyria har ødelagt folkene og deres land,
For truly, Lord, the kings of Assyria have wasted the nations,
18 og de har kastet deres guder i ilden; for de er ikke guder, men et verk av menneskehender, tre og sten, og derfor kunde de gjøre dem til intet.
and have cast their gods into the fire: because they are no gods, but the works of men's hands, wood and stone; and they have destroyed them.
19 Men frels oss nu. Herre vår Gud, av hans hånd, så alle jordens riker må kjenne at du, Herre, alene er Gud!
And now, O Lord our God, deliver us out of his hand, and all the kingdoms of the earth shall know that you alone [are] the Lord God.
20 Da sendte Esaias, Amos' sønn, bud til Esekias og lot si! Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Hvad du har bedt mig om vedkommende kongen i Assyria Sankerib, har jeg hørt.
And Esaias the son of Amos sent to Ezekias, saying, Thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, I have heard your prayer to me concerning Sennacherim king of the Assyrians.
21 Således lyder det ord Herren har talt om ham: Jomfruen, Sions datter, forakter dig, spotter dig; Jerusalems datter ryster på hodet efter dig.
This [is] the word which the Lord has spoken against him; The virgin daughter of Sion has made light of you, and mocked you; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
22 Hvem har du hånet og spottet, og mot hvem har du løftet din røst? Du har løftet dine øine til det høie, mot Israels Hellige.
Whom have you reproached, and whom have you reviled? and against whom have you lifted up your voice, and raised your eyes on high? [Is it] against the Holy One of Israel?
23 Ved dine sendebud har du hånet Herren og sagt: Med mine tall-løse vogner drog jeg op på fjellenes tinder, til Libanons øverste topper, og jeg hugger ned dets høieste sedrer, dets herlige cypresser, og jeg trenger frem til dets øverste hvilested, dets frodige skog;
By your messengers you has reproached the Lord, and have said, I will go up with the multitude of my chariots, to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Libanus, and I have cut down the height of his cedar, [and] his choice cypresses; and I have come into the midst of the forest and of Carmel.
24 jeg gravde brønner og drakk av fremmede vann, og jeg tørker ut alle Egyptens strømmer med mine fotsåler.
I have refreshed [myself], and have drunk strange waters, and I have dried up with the sole of my foot all the rivers of fortified places.
25 Har du da ikke hørt det? Fra fjerne tider har jeg gjort det, fra fordums dager har jeg laget det så. Nu har jeg latt det komme, så du har fått makt til å ødelegge faste byer og gjøre dem til øde grushauger.
I have brought about [the matter], I have brought it to a conclusion; and it is come to the destruction of the bands of warlike prisoners, [even of] strong cities.
26 Og deres innbyggere blev maktløse; de blev forferdet og skamfulle; de blev som gresset på marken og som de grønne urter, som gresset på takene og som korn som er ødelagt av brand før det er fullvokset.
And they that lived in them were weak in hand, they quaked and were confounded, they became [as] grass of the field, or [as] the green herb, the grass [growing on] houses, and that which is trodden down by him that stands [upon it].
27 Enten du sitter eller du går ut og inn, så vet jeg det, og jeg vet at du raser mot mig.
But I know your down-sitting, and your going forth, and your rage against me.
28 Fordi du raser mot mig, og din overmodige trygghet har nådd op til mine ører, så vil jeg legge min ring i din nese og mitt bissel mellem dine leber og føre dig tilbake den vei du kom.
Because you was angry against me, and your fierceness is come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hooks in your nostrils, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.
29 Og dette skal du ha til tegn: Iår skal I ete det korn som vokser av sig selv, og næste år det som skyter op fra roten; men i det tredje år skal I så og høste og plante vingårder og ete deres frukt.
And this shall be a sign to you; eat this year the things that grow of themselves, and in the second year the things which spring up: and in the third year [let there be] sowing, and reaping, and planting of vineyards, and eat you the fruit of them.
30 Og den rest som har sloppet unda av Judas hus, skal skyte dypere rot nedentil og bære frukt oventil.
And he shall increase him that has escaped of the house of Juda: and the remnant [shall strike] root beneath, and it shall produce fruit above.
31 For fra Jerusalem skal utgå en levning og fra Sions berg en rest som har sloppet unda; Herrens nidkjærhet skal gjøre dette.
For from Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and he that escapes from the mountain of Sion: the zeal of the Lord of host shall do this.
32 Derfor sier Herren så om kongen i Assyria: Han skal ikke komme inn i denne by og ikke skyte en pil inn i den, og han skal ikke rykke frem mot den med skjold og ikke opkaste voll mot den.
[Is it] not so? Thus says the Lord concerning the king of the Assyrians, He shall not enter into this city, and he shall not shoot an arrow there, neither shall a shield come against it, neither shall he heap a mound against it.
33 Den vei han kommer, skal han vende tilbake, og inn i denne by skal han ikke komme, sier Herren.
By the way by which he comes, by it shall he return, and he shall not enter into this city, says the Lord.
34 Og jeg vil verne denne by og frelse den, for min skyld og for min tjener Davids skyld.
And I will defend this city as with a shield, for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
35 Og samme natt skjedde det at Herrens engel gikk ut og slo hundre og fem og åtti tusen mann i assyrernes leir; og da folk stod op om morgenen, fikk de se dem alle ligge der som døde kropper.
And it came to pass at night that the angel of the Lord went forth, an struck in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand: and they rose early in the morning, and, behold, [these were] all dead corpses.
36 Da brøt kongen i Assyria Sankerib op og drog bort og vendte tilbake; og siden holdt han sig i ro i Ninive.
And Sennacherim king of the Assyrians departed, and went and returned, and lived in Nineve.
37 Men da han engang tilbad i sin gud Nisroks hus, slo Adrammelek og Sareser ham ihjel med sverd. De kom sig unda og flyktet til Ararats land, og hans sønn Asarhaddon blev konge i hans sted.
And it came to pass, while he was worshipping in the house of Meserach his god, that Adramelech and Sarasar his sons struck him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Ararath; and Asordan his son reigned in his stead.
