1 Samuels 30
1 Da David og hans menn på den tredje dag kom til Siklag, hadde amalekittene overfalt sydlandet og Siklag, og de hadde inntatt Siklag og brent det op.
And it came to pass when David and his men had entered Sekelac on the third day, that Amalec had made an incursion upon the south, and upon Sekelac, and smitten Sekelac, and burnt it with fire.
2 Og kvinnene og alle som var der, både små og store, hadde de tatt til fange; de hadde ikke drept nogen, men hadde ført dem bort og hadde draget sin vei,
And as to the women and all things that were in it, great and small, they slew neither man nor woman, but carried them captives, and went on their way.
3 og da David og hans menn kom til byen, fikk de se at den var brent op, og at deres hustruer og sønner og døtre var tatt til fange.
And David and his men came into the city, and, behold, it was burnt with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters were carried captive.
4 Da brast de i gråt, både David og de folk som var med ham, og de gråt til de ikke lenger var i stand til å gråte.
And David and his men lifted up their voice, and wept till there was no longer any power within them to weep.
5 Også Davids to hustruer, Akinoam fra Jisre'el og Abiga'il, karmelitten Nabals hustru, var tatt til fange.
And both the wives of David were carried captive, Achinaam, the Jezraelitess, and Abigaia the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6 Og selv kom David i stor nød, for folket sa at de vilde stene ham; så harme og sorgfulle var de alle sammen for sine sønners og døtres skyld. Men David søkte styrke hos Herren sin Gud.
And David was greatly distressed, because the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, each for his sons and his daughters: but David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
7 Og David sa til presten Abjatar, Akimeleks sønn: Kom hit til mig med livkjortelen! Da kom Abjatar til David med livkjortelen.
And David said to Abiathar the priest the son of Achimelech, Bring near the ephod.
8 Og David spurte Herren: Skal jeg sette efter denne røverflokk? Kan jeg nå dem igjen? Herren svarte: Sett efter dem! Du skal nå dem igjen, og du skal frelse fangene!
And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? and he said to him, Pursue, for thou shalt surely overtake them, and thou shalt surely rescue [the captives].
9 Så drog David avsted med de seks hundre mann som fulgte ham, og de kom til Besor-bekken. Der blev en del av dem igjen;
So David went, he an the six hundred men with him, an they come as far as the brook Bosor, and the superfluous ones stopped.
10 David satte efter fienden med fire hundre mann, men to hundre mann blev igjen - de var for trette til å gå over Besor-bekken.
And he pursued them with four hundred men; and there remained behind two hundred men, who tarried on the other side of the brook Bosor.
11 Så fant de en egyptisk mann som lå på marken, og de tok ham med sig til David. Og de gav ham mat, som han åt, og lot ham få vann å drikke,
And they find an Egyptian in the field, and they take him, and bring him to David; and they gave him bread and he ate, and they caused him to drink water.
12 og dessuten et stykke fikenkake og to rosinkaker, og da han hadde ett, vendte hans livsånd tilbake; for han hadde ikke smakt mat og ikke drukket vann i tre dager og tre netter.
And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and he ate, and his spirit was restored in him; for he had not eaten bread, and had not drunk water three days and three nights.
13 Og David spurte ham: Hvem hører du til, og hvor er du fra? Han svarte: Jeg er en egyptisk gutt, tjener hos en amalekittisk mann; men min herre gikk fra mig her fordi jeg blev syk for tre dager siden.
And David said to him, Whose art thou? and whence art thou? and the young man the Egyptian said, I am the servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me, because I was taken ill three days ago.
14 Vi hadde gjort innfall i sydlandet hvor kreterne bor, og i det land som hører Juda til, og i den del av sydlandet som hører Kalebs ætt til, og vi hadde brent op Siklag.
And we made an incursion on the south of the Chelethite, and on the parts of Judea, and on the south of Chelub, and we burnt Sekelac with fire.
15 Da sa David til ham: Vil du føre mig ned til denne røverflokk? Han svarte: Tilsverg mig ved Gud at du ikke vil drepe mig og heller ikke overgi mig i min herres hånd, sa vil jeg føre dig ned til den røverflokk du taler om.
And David said to him, Wilt thou bring me down to this troop? And he said, Swear now to me by God, that thou wilt not kill me, and that thou wilt not deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down upon this troop.
16 Derefter førte han ham ned, og der lå de spredt rundt omkring over hele marken og åt og drakk og holdt fest med alt det store bytte de hadde tatt fra filistrenes land og fra Juda land.
So be brought him down thither, and behold, they [were] scattered abroad upon the surface of the whole land, eating and drinking, and feasting by [reason of] all the great spoils which they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Juda.
17 David hugg dem ned helt fra skumringen til næste dags aften, og ingen av dem slapp unda så nær som fire hundre unge menn som kastet sig på kamelene og flyktet.
And David came upon them, and smote them from the morning till the evening, and on the next day; and not one of them escaped, except four hundred young men, who were mounted on camels, and fled.
18 Og David berget alt det som amalekittene hadde tatt; også sine to hustruer berget David.
And David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and he rescued both his wives.
19 Det manglet ikke nogen, hverken liten eller stor, hverken sønner eller døtre, heller ikke noget av byttet eller av det de hadde tatt med sig; alt sammen hadde David med sig tilbake.
And nothing was wanting to them of great or small, either of the spoils, or the sons and daughters, or anything that they had taken of theirs; and David recovered all.
20 Alt feet tok David og, både det små og det store; og driftekarene gikk foran buskapen og ropte: Dette er Davids bytte.
And he took all the flocks, and the herds, and led them away before the spoils: and it was said of these spoils, These [are] the spoils of David.
21 Da David kom til de to hundre mann som hadde vært for trette til å følge ham, og som han hadde latt bli tilbake ved Besor-bekken, gikk de ut imot David og de folk som var med ham; og David gikk frem til folkene og hilste på dem.
And David comes to the two hundred men who were left behind that they should not follow after David, and he had caused them to remain by the brook of Bosor; and they came forth to meet David, and to meet his people with him: and David drew near to the people, and they asked him how he did.
22 Da tok de til orde alle de onde og illesinnede menn blandt dem som hadde fulgt David, og sa: Siden de ikke gikk med oss, vil vi ikke gi dem noget av det bytte vi har berget; bare sin hustru og sine barn kan hver av dem ta med sig og gå hjem.
Then every ill-disposed and bad man of the soldiers who had gone with David, answered and said, Because they did not pursue together with us, we will not give them of the spoils which we have recovered, only let each one lead away with him his wife and his children, and let them return.
23 Men David sa: Således skal I ikke gjøre, mine brødre, med det som Herren har gitt oss; han har bevart oss og gitt denne røverflokk som var kommet over oss, i vår hånd.
And David said, Ye shall not do so, after the Lord has delivered [the enemy] to us, and guarded us, and the Lord has delivered into our hands the troop that came against u.
24 Hvem skulde vel holde med eder i dette? Nei, den som drog med i striden, skal ikke ha større del av byttet enn den som blev igjen ved trosset; de skal dele likt.
And who will hearken to these your words? for they are not inferior to us; for according to the portion of him that went down to the battle, so shall be the portion of him that abides with the baggage; they shall share alike.
25 Og således blev det fra den dag og fremover - han gjorde dette til lov og rett i Israel, således som det er den dag idag.
And it came to pass from that day forward, that it became an ordinance and a custom in Israel until this day.
26 Da David kom til Siklag, sendte han noget av byttet til Judas eldste, de som var hans venner, og lot si: Se, her er en gave til eder av byttet som jeg har tatt fra Herrens fiender -
And David came to Sekelac, and sent of the spoils to the elders of Juda, and to his friends, saying, Behold [some] of the spoils of the enemies of the Lord;
27 til dem i Betel sendte han, og til dem i Ramot-Negeb og til dem i Jattir
to those in Baethsur, and to those in Rama of the south, and to those in Gethor.
28 og til dem i Aroer og til dem i Sifmot og til dem i Estemoa
And to those in Aroer, and to those in Ammadi, and to those in Saphi, and to those in Esthie,
29 og til dem i Rakal og til dem i jerahme'elittenes byer og til dem i kenittenes byer
and to those in Geth, and to those in Cimath, and to those in Saphec, and to those in Themath, and to those in Carmel, and to those in the cities of Jeremeel, and to those in the cities of the Kenezite;
30 og til dem i Horma og til dem i Kor-Asan og til dem i Atak
and to those in Jerimuth, and to those in Bersabee, and to those in Nombe,
31 og til dem i Hebron og til alle de steder hvor David hadde vanket om med sine menn.
and to those in Chebron, and to all the places which David and his men had passed through.
