1 Kwathi selugcwalisekile usuku lwePentekoste, babendawonye bengqondonye bonke.
And, when the day of pentecost was filling up [the number of days] they were all together with one intent; —
2 Kwahle kwezwakala-ke umdumo ovela ezulwini onjengowokuvunguza komoya olamandla, njalo wagcwalisa indlu yonke ababehlezi kuyo,
When there came suddenly out of heaven a sound, just as of a mighty rushing wind, —and it filled all the house where they were sitting;
3 kwasekubonakala kubo inlimi ezehlukanisiweyo kungathi ngezomlilo, zasezihlala phezu kwalowo lalowo wabo.
And there appeared unto them—parting asunder—tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them;
4 Basebegcwaliswa bonke ngoMoya oNgcwele, baqala ukukhuluma ngezinye indimi, njengalokhu uMoya wabanika ukuphumisela.
And they were all filled with Holy Spirit, and began to be speaking with other kinds of tongues just as the Spirit was giving unto them to be sounding forth.
5 Kwakuhlala-ke eJerusalema amaJuda, amadoda aqotho, avela kuso sonke isizwe salezo ezingaphansi kwezulu.
Now there were in Jerusalem sojourning Jews, reverent men from every nation who were under heaven;
6 Kwathi sekulalo umdumo, ixuku labuthana ndawonye lasanganiseka, ngoba ngulowo lalowo wabezwa bekhuluma ngolimi lwakibo.
And this sound occurring the throng came together and was thrown into confusion, because each one severally heard in his own language them who were speaking;
7 Basebemangala kakhulu bonke bababaza, bakhulumisana bathi: Khangelani, bonke laba abakhulumayo kayisibo abeGalili yini?
Yea they were beside themselves and did marvel, saying—Lo! are not all these who are speaking Galilaeans?
8 Kungani, pho, thina sibezwa ngamunye wabo ngolimi lwakithi esazalwa lalo?
How then do, we, hear each one in our own language in which we were born?
9 AmaPathiya lamaMede lamaElamu, labahlali beMesopotamiya, labeJudiya labeKaphadosiya, abePontusi labeAsiya,
Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judaea also and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 abeFrigiya labePamfiliya, abeGibhithe labengxenye zeLibiya eduze leKurene, lezihambi ezingamaRoma, kokubili amaJuda labaphendukela kumaJuda,
Phrygia also and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of the Libya that is towards Cyrene, and the sojourning Romans, —both Jews and proselytes,
11 amaKrete lamaArabhiya, siyabezwa bekhuluma ngendimi zakithi imisebenzi emikhulu kaNkulunkulu.
Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speaking in our own tongues the magnificent things of God.
12 Bonke basebemangala kakhulu badideka, bakhulumisana besithi: Lokhu kungaba yini?
But they were all beside themselves and were utterly at a loss, saying one to another—What doth this please to be?
13 Kodwa abanye bahleka usulu bathi: Basuthi iwayini elitsha.
While, others, in mockery were saying—With sweet wine, are they drunken!
14 Kodwa uPetro emi labalitshumi lanye, waphakamisa ilizwi lakhe, wasesithi kubo: Madoda maJuda, lani lonke elihlala eJerusalema, kakwaziwe kini lokhu, njalo lilalelisise amazwi ami.
But, taking his stand, Peter with the eleven lifted up his voice, and sounded out unto them—Ye men of Judaea, and all ye who are sojourning in Jerusalem! Let, this, unto you be known, and give ear unto my declarations; —
15 Ngoba laba kabadakwanga, njengoba lina licabanga; ngoba kulihola lesithathu losuku;
For not, as, ye, suppose, are these men drunken, for it is the third hour of the day; —
16 kodwa lokhu yikho okwakhulunywa ngumprofethi uJoweli:
But this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel—
17 Njalo kuzakuthi ensukwini zokucina, utsho uNkulunkulu, ngizathulula okoMoya wami phezu kwayo yonke inyama; lamadodana enu lamadodakazi enu azaprofetha, lamajaha enu abone imibono, labadala benu baphuphe amaphupho;
And it shall be, in the last days saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and, your young men, visions shall see and, your elders, in dreams shall dream, —
18 njalo laphezu kwenceku zami laphezu kwencekukazi zami ngalezonsuku ngizathulula okoMoya wami, njalo zizaprofetha.
And, even upon my men-servants and upon my maid-servants in those days, will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy;
19 Njalo ngizaveza izimangaliso ezulwini phezulu, lezibonakaliso emhlabeni phansi, igazi, lomlilo, leyezi lentuthu;
And I will set forth wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath, —blood and fire and vapour of smoke:
20 ilanga lizaphendulwa umnyama, lenyanga igazi, lungakafiki usuku lweNkosi olukhulu loludumisekayo;
The sun, shall be turned into darkness and, the moon, into blood, —before the coming of the day of the Lord, the great and manifest [day];
21 kuzakuthi, wonke obiza ibizo leNkosi uzasindiswa.
And it shall be—Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.
22 Madoda maIsrayeli, zwanini la amazwi: UJesu weNazaretha, umuntu ofakazelwe nguNkulunkulu phambi kwenu ngemisebenzi yamandla langezimangaliso langezibonakaliso, uNkulunkulu azenza ngaye phakathi kwenu, njengalokhu lisazi lani uqobo lwenu,
Ye men of Israel! hear these words: —Jesus the Nazarene, a man pointed out of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs, which God did through him in your midst, just as ye yourselves know,
23 yena lo esenikelwe ngecebo elimisiweyo langokwazi okuphambili kukaNkulunkulu lamthatha, ngezandla zabangelamthetho lambethela lambulala;
The same, by the marked out counsel and foreknowledge of God given up, through the hands of lawless men, suspending, ye slew,
24 yena uNkulunkulu wamvusa, esethukulule inhlungu zokufa, ngoba kwakungelakwenzeka ukuthi abanjwe yikho.
Whom, God, raised up, loosing the pangs of death, inasmuch as it was, not possible, for him to continue held fast by it.
25 Ngoba uDavida uthi ngaye: Ngangibona iNkosi phambi kwami njalonjalo; ngoba ingakwesokunene sami, ukuze nginganyikinyeki;
For, David, saith concerning him—I foresaw the Lord before me continually, because he is, on my right hand, that I may not be shaken;
26 ngakho inhliziyo yami yajabula, lolimi lwami lwathokoza; ngitsho lenyama yami izahlala ethembeni;
For this reason, was my heart made glad and my tongue exulted, —ye further, even my flesh, shall encamp on hope:
27 ngoba kawuyikutshiya umphefumulo wami esihogweni, kawuyikunikela oNgcwele wakho ukuthi abone ukubola. (Hadēs g86)
Because thou wilt not abandon my soul unto hades, neither wilt thou give thy man of lovingkindness to see corruption; (Hadēs g86)
28 Wangazisa indlela zempilo; uzangigcwalisa ngenjabulo ebusweni bakho.
Thou madest known unto me paths of life, thou wilt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.
29 Madoda bazalwane, ake ngikhulume kini ngokusobala ngokhokho uDavida, ukuthi wafa njalo wangcwatshwa, lengcwaba lakhe likhona kithi kuze kube lamuhla.
Brethren! it is, allowable, to say with freedom of speech unto you, concerning the patriarch David, —that he both died and was buried, and, his tomb, is among us until this day.
30 Ngakho, yena engumprofethi, ekwazi ukuthi uNkulunkulu wafunga ngesifungo kuye, ukuthi esithelweni sokhalo lwakhe ngokwenyama uzavusa uKristu, ukuze ahlale esihlalweni sakhe sobukhosi,
Being then, a prophet, and knowing that, with an oath, God had sworn unto him, of the fruit of his loins, to seat on his throne,
31 ebonile ngaphambili wakhuluma ngokuvuka kukaKristu, ukuthi umphefumulo wakhe kawutshiywanga esihogweni, lenyama yakhe kayikubonanga ukubola. (Hadēs g86)
With foresight, spake he concerning the resurrection of the Christ—that neither was he abandoned unto hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. (Hadēs g86)
32 UJesu lo uNkulunkulu wamvusa, esingabafakazi balokhu thina sonke.
The same Jesus, hath God raised up, whereof, all we, are witnesses!
33 Ngakho ephakanyiswe ngakwesokunene sikaNkulunkulu, esemukele kuBaba isithembiso sikaMoya oNgcwele, uthulule lokhu elikubonayo lelikuzwayo khathesi.
By the right hand of God, therefore, having been exalted, also, the promise of the Holy Spirit, having received from the Father, He hath poured out this which, yourselves, do see and hear.
34 Ngoba uDavida kenyukelanga emazulwini, kodwa yena uqobo lwakhe uthi: INkosi yathi eNkosini yami: Hlala ngakwesokunene sami,
For, David, hath not ascended into the heavens; but he saith, himself, —Said the Lord unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand,
35 ngize ngenze izitha zakho zibe yisenabelo senyawo zakho.
Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
36 Ngakho indlu kaIsrayeli yonke kayazi isibili, ukuthi uNkulunkulu umenzile kokubili ukuba yiNkosi loKristu, uJesu lo elambethelayo lina.
Assuredly, then, let all the house of Israel know: that, both Lord and Christ, hath God made him, even the same Jesus whom, ye, crucified!
37 Sebekuzwa lokhu bahlabeka enhliziyweni, basebesithi kuPetro lakwabanye abaphostoli: Madoda bazalwane, sizakwenzani?
And, when they heard this, they were pricked to the heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles—What are we to do, brethren?
38 UPetro wasesithi kubo: Phendukani, libhabhathizwe lonke ngamunye wenu ebizweni likaJesu Kristu ethethelelweni lwezono, njalo lizakwemukela isipho sikaMoya oNgcwele.
And Peter [said] unto them—Repent ye, and let each one of you be immersed, in the name of Jesus Christ, into the remission of your sins, —and ye shall receive the free-gift of the Holy Spirit;
39 Ngoba isithembiso ngesenu, lesabantwana benu, lesabo bonke abakhatshana, bonke iNkosi uNkulunkulu wethu ezababizela kuyo.
For, unto you, is the promise, and unto your children, —and unto all them who are afar off: as many soever as the Lord our God shall call unto him.
40 Langamanye amazwi amanengi wafakaza wakhuthaza wathi: Zisindiseni kulesisizukulwana esiphambeneyo.
And, with many different words, bare he frail witness, and went on exhorting them saying—Be saved from this perverse generation!
41 Ngakho abalemukelayo ilizwi lakhe ngokuthokoza babhabhathizwa; njalo ngalolosuku kwengezelelwa imiphefumulo engaba zinkulungwane ezintathu.
They, therefore, who welcomed his word, were immersed; and there were added, on that day, about three thousand souls.
42 Basebephikelela ekufundiseni kwabaphostoli lebudlelwaneni, lekuhlephuleni isinkwa lemikhulekweni.
And they went on to give constant attention—unto the teaching of the apostles, and unto the fellowship, unto the breaking of bread, and unto the prayers.
43 Lokwesaba kwehlela phezu kwayo yonke imiphefumulo; njalo kwenziwa ngabaphostoli izimangaliso lezibonakaliso ezinengi.
And there came on every soul, fear, and, many wonders and signs, through means of the apostles, were coming to pass.
44 Njalo bonke abakholwayo babendawonye, babelezinto zonke bezihlanganyela,
And, all who believed, with one accord, began to hold all things common;
45 basebethengisa izinto lempahla zabo, basebesabelana bonke, njengokuswela komunye lomunye.
and, their possessions and goods, were they selling and distributing them unto all, in so far as anyone had need.
46 Insuku ngensuku basebephikelela nganhliziyonye ethempelini, behlephula isinkwa izindlu ngezindlu, besidla ndawonye ngentokozo langenhliziyo emhlophe,
And, daily giving attendance with one intent in the temple and, at home, breaking bread, they were partaking of food with exultation and singleness of heart;
47 bedumisa uNkulunkulu, bethandeka ebantwini bonke. LeNkosi yengezelela ebandleni insuku ngensuku labo abasindiswayo.
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And, the Lord, was adding them who were being saved, daily, together.
