1 १ आता तिबिर्य कैसराच्या कारकिर्दीच्या पंधराव्या वर्षी, जेव्हा पंतय पिलात यहूदीया प्रांताचा शासक होता आणि हेरोद चौथाई गालील प्रांताचा शासक असताना आणि त्याचा भाऊ फिलिप्प हा चौथाई इतुरीया व त्राखोनीती या देशांचा शासक व लूसनिय हा चौथाई अबिलेनेचा शासक होता.
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip being tetrarch of the region belonging to Ituraea, and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias being tetrarch of Abilene,
2 २ आणि हन्ना व कयफा हे मुख्य याजक लोक होते, तेव्हा अरण्यात देवाचे वचन जखऱ्याचा पुत्र योहान याच्याकडे आले.
in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to be in John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 ३ तो यार्देनेच्या सभोवतालच्या सर्व परिसरात पापांच्या क्षमेसाठी पश्चात्ताप करून बाप्तिस्मा घ्यावा अशी घोषणा करत फिरला.
And he came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching an immersion of repentance for remission of sins,
4 ४ यशया संदेष्ट्याच्या पुस्तकात लिहिल्याप्रमाणे हे झालेः “रानात घोषणा करणाऱ्याची वाणी झाली ती अशी, ‘परमेश्वराचा मार्ग तयार करा, त्याच्या वाटा सरळ करा.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, which says, The voice of a man crying out in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.
5 ५ प्रत्येक दरी भरली जाईल, आणि प्रत्येक डोंगर व टेकडी सपाट केली जाईल, वांकडी सरळ होतील, आणि खडबडीत मार्ग सपाट केले जातील
Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be brought low. And the crooked things will be into straight and the rough into smooth ways.
And all flesh will see the salvation of God.
7 ७ त्याच्याकडून बाप्तिस्मा करून घेण्यासाठी येणाऱ्या जमावाला योहान म्हणाला; “अहो, विषारी सापाच्या पिलांनो, येणाऱ्या क्रोधापासून सुटका करून घेण्यासाठी तुम्हास कोणी सावध केले?
He said therefore to the multitudes who went out to be immersed by him, Ye offspring of vipers, who showed you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 ८ पश्चात्तापास योग्य अशी फळे द्या आणि आपल्या मनात असे म्हणू नका की, ‘अब्राहाम आमच्या पित्यासारखा आहे.’ कारण मी तुम्हास सांगतो की, अब्राहामासाठी या दगडापासून मुले निर्माण करण्यास देव समर्थ आहे.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, We have a father, Abraham. For I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
9 ९ आताच झाडांच्या मुळांशी कुऱ्हाड ठेवलेली आहे. म्हणून प्रत्येक झाड जे चांगले फळ देत नाही ते तोडून अग्नीत टाकले जाईल.”
And even now the axe is laid at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore not making good fruit is cut down, and cast into fire.
And the crowds questioned him, saying, What then shall we do?
11 ११ त्याने उत्तर दिले, “ज्याच्याकडे दोन अंगरखे असतील त्याने ज्याला नाही त्यास एक द्यावा आणि ज्याच्याकडे अन्न आहे त्यानेही तसेच करावे.”
And having answered, he says to them, He who has two coats, let him share with him not having, and he who has food, let him do likewise.
And tax collectors also came to be immersed, and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do?
And he said to them, Collect not one thing more than from what has been appointed for you.
14 १४ काही शिपायांनीसुद्धा त्यास विचारून म्हटले, “आणि आमच्या बद्दल काय, आम्ही काय करावे?” तो त्यांना म्हणाला, “कोणाकडून जबरदस्तीने पैसे घेऊ नका, कोणावरही खोटा आरोप करू नका, तुम्हास मिळणाऱ्या पगारात समाधानी राहा.”
And men who were soldiers also questioned him, saying, And we, what should we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no man, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.
15 १५ तेव्हा लोक उत्सुकतेने वाट पाहत असता प्रत्येकजण आपल्या अंतःकरणात हाच ख्रिस्त असेल काय म्हणून विचार करीत असत.
And as the people were expectant, and all pondering in their hearts about John, if perhaps he was the Christ,
16 १६ त्या सर्वांना योहानाने उत्तर दिले, “मी तुमचा बाप्तिस्मा पाण्याने करतो, पण एकजण जो माझ्यापेक्षाही सामर्थ्यशाली आहे तो येत आहे आणि त्याच्या वहाणांचे बंद सोडण्यासही मी पात्र नाही, तो तुमचा बाप्तिस्मा पवित्र आत्म्याने व अग्नीने करील.
John responded, saying to them all, I indeed immerse you in water, but a man mightier than I comes, of whom I am not worthy to unloose the strap of his shoes. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire,
17 १७ त्याचे खळे अगदी स्वच्छ करायला व गहू त्याच्या कोठारात साठवायला त्याचे सूप त्याच्या हातात आहे, पण तो भूस न विझणाऱ्या अग्नीत जाळून टाकील.”
whose winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his storehouse, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.
Indeed therefore, also exhorting the people with many other things, he preached the good news.
19 १९ योहानाने चौथाईचा शासक हेरोद याची कानउघडणी केली कारण त्याचे त्याच्या भावाच्या पत्नी हेरोदीया हिच्याशी अनैतिक संबंध होते, तसेच इतर अनेक वाईट गोष्टी त्याने केल्या होत्या.
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him about Herodias his brother's wife, and about all of which evil things Herod had done,
also added this to them all, he even locked up John in prison.
21 २१ तेव्हा असे झाले की, जेव्हा सर्व लोकांचा बाप्तिस्मा योहानाद्वारे केला जात होता, तेव्हा येशूचा ही बाप्तिस्मा होऊन तो प्रार्थना करीत असता आकाश उघडले गेले.
Now it came to pass, during the immersion of all the people, Jesus also having been immersed and praying, for the heaven to be opened,
22 २२ आणि पवित्र आत्मा देहरूपाने कबुतराप्रमाणे त्याच्यावर उतरला आणि आकाशातून अशी वाणी झाली की, “तू माझा प्रिय पुत्र आहेस, मी तुझ्याविषयी फार संतुष्ट आहे.”
and the Holy Spirit to descend in a bodily form as a dove upon him, and a voice to occur out of heaven, saying, Thou are my beloved Son. In thee I am well pleased.
23 २३ जेव्हा येशूने त्याच्या कार्यास सुरुवात केली तेव्हा तो सुमारे तीस वर्षांचा होता. लोक त्यास योसेफाचा मुलगा समजत. योसेफ एलीचा मुलगा होता
And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years old, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,
the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph,
the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Joseph, the son of Joda,
27 २७ योदा योहानानाचा मुलगा होता. योहानान रेशाचा, रेशा जरूब्बाबेलाचा, जरूब्बाबेल शल्तीएलाचा, शल्तीएल नेरीचा,
the son of Joannan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,
the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,
the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,
the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
33 ३३ नहशोन अम्मीनादाबाचा मुलगा होता. अम्मीनादाब अदामीनचा, अदामीन अर्णयाचा, अर्णय हेस्रोनाचा, हेस्रोन पेरेसाचा, पेरेस यहूदाचा,
the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,
the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Shelah
the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,
the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
