സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങൾ 23

1 ൧ നീ അധിപതിയോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ നിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് എന്തെന്ന് കരുതിക്കൊള്ളുക.

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently him that is before thee;

2 ൨ നീ ഭോജനപ്രിയൻ ആകുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ നിന്റെ തൊണ്ടയ്ക്ക് ഒരു കത്തി വച്ചുകൊള്ളുക.

And put a knife to thy throat, If thou be a man given to appetite.

3 ൩ അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജനങ്ങൾ കൊതിക്കരുത്; അവ വഞ്ചിക്കുന്ന ഭോജനമത്രേ.

Be not desirous of his dainties; Seeing they are deceitful food.

4 ൪ ധനവാനാകേണ്ടതിന് ബദ്ധപ്പെടരുത്; അതിനായുള്ള ബുദ്ധി വിട്ടുകളയുക.

Weary not thyself to be rich; Cease from thine own wisdom.

5 ൫ നിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടി ധനത്തിന്മേൽ പതിക്കുന്നത് എന്തിന്? അത് ഇല്ലാതെയായിപ്പോകുമല്ലോ. കഴുകൻ ആകാശത്തേക്ക് എന്നപോലെ അത് ചിറകെടുത്ത് പറന്നുകളയും.

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For [riches] certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

6 ൬ കണ്ണുകടിയുള്ളവന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നരുത്; അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങൾ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുകയുമരുത്.

Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, Neither desire thou his dainties:

7 ൭ അവൻ തന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ കണക്ക് കൂട്ടുന്നതുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; ‘തിന്നു കുടിച്ചുകൊള്ളുക’ എന്ന് അവൻ നിന്നോട് പറയും; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയമോ നിനക്ക് അനുകൂലമല്ല.

For as he thinketh within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee.

8 ൮ നീ തിന്ന കഷണം ഛർദ്ദിച്ചുപോകും; നിന്റെ മാധുര്യവാക്ക് നഷ്ടമായെന്നും വരും.

The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, And lose thy sweet words.

9 ൯ ഭോഷൻ കേൾക്കെ നീ സംസാരിക്കരുത്; അവൻ നിന്റെ വാക്കുകളുടെ ജ്ഞാനം നിരസിച്ചുകളയും.

Speak not in the hearing of a fool; For he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

10 ൧൦ പണ്ടേയുള്ള അതിര് നീക്കരുത്; അനാഥരുടെ നിലം ആക്രമിക്കുകയുമരുത്.

Remove not the ancient landmark; And enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

11 ൧൧ അവരുടെ പ്രതികാരകൻ ബലവാനല്ലയോ; അവർക്ക് നിന്നോടുള്ള വ്യവഹാരം അവിടുന്ന് നടത്തും.

For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause against thee.

12 ൧൨ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പ്രബോധനത്തിനും നിന്റെ ചെവി പരിജ്ഞാനവചനങ്ങൾക്കും സമർപ്പിക്കുക.

Apply thy heart unto instruction, And thine ears to the words of knowledge.

13 ൧൩ ബാലന് ശിക്ഷ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കരുത്; വടികൊണ്ട് അടിച്ചാൽ അവൻ ചത്തുപോകുകയില്ല.

Withhold not correction from the child; [For] if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.

14 ൧൪ വടികൊണ്ട് അവനെ അടിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ നീ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ പാതാളത്തിൽനിന്ന് വിടുവിക്കും. (Sheol h7585)

Thou shalt beat him with the rod, And shalt deliver his soul from Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

15 ൧൫ മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ജ്ഞാനം പഠിച്ചാൽ എന്റെ ഹൃദയവും സന്തോഷിക്കും.

My son, if thy heart be wise, My heart will be glad, even mine:

16 ൧൬ നിന്റെ അധരം നേര് സംസാരിച്ചാൽ എന്റെ അന്തരംഗങ്ങൾ ആനന്ദിക്കും.

Yea, my heart will rejoice, When thy lips speak right things.

17 ൧൭ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പാപികളോട് അസൂയപ്പെടരുത്; നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും യഹോവഭക്തിയോടിരിക്കുക.

Let not thy heart envy sinners; But [be thou] in the fear of Jehovah all the day long:

18 ൧൮ ഒരു പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും നിശ്ചയം; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശക്ക് ഭംഗം വരുകയുമില്ല.

For surely there is a reward; And thy hope shall not be cut off.

19 ൧൯ മകനേ, കേട്ട് ജ്ഞാനം പഠിക്കുക; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ നേർവഴിയിൽ നടത്തിക്കൊള്ളുക.

Hear thou, my son, and be wise, And guide thy heart in the way.

20 ൨൦ നീ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും മാംസഭോജനപ്രിയരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഇരിക്കരുത്.

Be not among winebibbers, Among gluttonous eaters of flesh:

21 ൨൧ കുടിയനും അമിതഭോജകനും ദരിദ്രരായ്തീരും; ആലസ്യം പഴന്തുണി ഉടുക്കുമാറാക്കും.

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; And drowsiness will clothe [a man] with rags.

22 ൨൨ നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ച അപ്പന്റെ വാക്ക് കേൾക്കുക; നിന്റെ അമ്മ വൃദ്ധയായിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കരുത്.

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she is old.

23 ൨൩ നീ സത്യം വില്ക്കുകയല്ല വാങ്ങുകയാണ് വേണ്ടത്; ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും വിവേകവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ.

Buy the truth, and sell it not; [Yea], wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

24 ൨൪ നീതിമാന്റെ അപ്പൻ ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദിക്കും; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജനകൻ അവനിൽ സന്തോഷിക്കും.

The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; And he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.

25 ൨൫ നിന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാർ സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവൾ ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ.

Let thy father and thy mother be glad, And let her that bare thee rejoice.

26 ൨൬ മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം എനിക്ക് തരുക; എന്റെ വഴി നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന് ഇമ്പമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

My son, give me thy heart; And let thine eyes delight in my ways.

27 ൨൭ വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീ ആഴമുള്ള കുഴിയും പരസ്ത്രീ ഇടുക്കമുള്ള കിണറും ആകുന്നു.

For a harlot is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.

28 ൨൮ അവൾ പിടിച്ചുപറിക്കാരനെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യരിൽ അവിശ്വസ്തരെ വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

Yea, she lieth in wait as a robber, And increaseth the treacherous among men.

29 ൨൯ ആർക്ക് കഷ്ടം, ആർക്ക് സങ്കടം, ആർക്ക് കലഹം? ആർക്ക് ആവലാതി, ആർക്ക് അനാവശ്യമായ മുറിവുകൾ, ആർക്ക് കൺചുവപ്പ്?

Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?

30 ൩൦ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നേരം വൈകിക്കുന്നവർക്കും മദ്യം രുചിനോക്കുവാൻ പോകുന്നവർക്കും തന്നെ.

They that tarry long at the wine; They that go to seek out mixed wine.

31 ൩൧ വീഞ്ഞു ചുവന്ന് പാത്രത്തിൽ തിളങ്ങുന്നതും രസമായി ഇറക്കുന്നതും നീ നോക്കരുത്.

Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, When it sparkleth in the cup, When it goeth down smoothly:

32 ൩൨ ഒടുവിൽ അത് സർപ്പംപോലെ കടിക്കും; അണലിപോലെ കൊത്തും.

At the last it biteth like a serpent, And stingeth like an adder.

33 ൩൩ നിന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ പരസ്ത്രീകളെ നോക്കും; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം വക്രത പറയും.

Thine eyes shall behold strange things, And thy heart shall utter perverse things.

34 ൩൪ നീ നടുക്കടലിൽ ശയിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും പാമരത്തിന്റെ മുകളിൽ ഉറങ്ങുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ആകും.

Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, Or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

35 ൩൫ “അവർ എന്നെ അടിച്ചു എനിക്ക് നൊന്തില്ല; അവർ എന്നെ തല്ലി, ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞതുമില്ല. ഞാൻ എപ്പോൾ ഉണരും? ഞാൻ ഇനിയും അത് തന്നെ തേടും” എന്ന് നീ പറയും.

They have stricken me, [shalt thou say], and I was not hurt; They have beaten me, and I felt it not: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
