അപ്പൊ. പ്രവൃത്തികൾ 25
1 ൧ ഫെസ്തൊസ് സംസ്ഥാനാധിപനായി ചുമതലയേറ്റിട്ട് മൂന്നുനാൾ കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം കൈസര്യയിൽനിന്ന് യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു പോയി.
Festus therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.
2 ൨ അപ്പോൾ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും യെഹൂദന്മാരിൽ പ്രമുഖരും ആയവർ ഫെസ്തോസിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ പൗലോസിനെതിരെ അന്യായം ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.
Then the high priest and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul, and they begged him,
asking a favour against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem, plotting to kill him on the way.
4 ൪ അവനെ യെരുശലേമിലേക്കു വരുത്തുവാൻ ദയവുണ്ടാകേണം എന്ന് അവർ പൗലോസിന് പ്രതികൂലമായി ഉപായബുദ്ധിയോടെ ഫെസ്തോസിനോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു. അതിന് ഫെസ്തൊസ്: “പൗലൊസിനെ കൈസര്യയിൽ തടവുകാരനായി സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാൻ വേഗം അവിടേക്ക് പോകുന്നുണ്ട്;
However Festus answered that Paul should be kept in custody at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to depart shortly.
5 ൫ നിങ്ങളിൽ പ്രാപ്തിയുള്ളവർ കൂടെ വന്ന് ആ മനുഷ്യന്റെ നേരെ അന്യായം ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ ബോധിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
“Let them therefore”, he said, “that are in power amongst you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong in the man, let them accuse him.”
6 ൬ അവൻ ഏകദേശം എട്ട് പത്തു ദിവസം യെരുശലേമിൽ അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ താമസിച്ചശേഷം കൈസര്യയ്ക്ക് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി; പിറ്റെന്ന് ന്യായാസനത്തിൽ ഇരുന്ന് പൗലൊസിനെ വരുത്തുവാൻ കല്പിച്ചു.
When he had stayed amongst them more than ten days, he went down to Caesarea, and on the next day he sat on the judgement seat, and commanded Paul to be brought.
7 ൭ അവൻ വന്നതിനുശേഷം യെരൂശലേമിൽനിന്ന് വന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാർ ചുറ്റും നിന്ന് പൗലൊസിന് നേരെ കഠിനമായ കുറ്റങ്ങൾ പലതും ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.
When he had come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing against him many and grievous charges which they could not prove,
8 ൮ പൗലൊസോ: “യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തോടാകട്ടെ ദൈവാലയത്തോടാകട്ടെ കൈസരോടാകട്ടെ ഞാൻ ഒരു കുറ്റവും ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല” എന്ന് പ്രതിവാദിച്ചാറെ ആ കുറ്റങ്ങളെ തെളിയിപ്പാൻ അവർക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
while he said in his defence, “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all.”
9 ൯ എന്നാൽ ഫെസ്തൊസ് യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ പ്രീതി സമ്പാദിപ്പാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ച് പൗലൊസിനോട്: “യെരൂശലേമിലേക്ക് ചെന്ന് അവിടെ എന്റെ മുമ്പിൽവച്ച് ഈ സംഗതികളെക്കുറിച്ച് വിസ്താരം നടത്തുവാൻ നിനക്ക് സമ്മതമുണ്ടോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന് പൗലൊസ്: “ഞാൻ കൈസരുടെ ന്യായാസനത്തിന് മുമ്പാകെ നില്ക്കുന്നു;
But Festus, desiring to gain favour with the Jews, answered Paul and said, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and be judged by me there concerning these things?”
10 ൧൦ അവിടുന്ന് എന്നെ വിസ്തരിക്കേണ്ടതാകുന്നു; നീയും നന്നായി അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ യെഹൂദന്മാരോട് ഞാൻ ഒരു അന്യായവും ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല;
But Paul said, “I am standing before Caesar’s judgement seat, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you also know very well.
11 ൧൧ ഞാൻ അന്യായം ചെയ്ത് മരണയോഗ്യമായത് വല്ലതും പ്രവൃത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ മരണശിക്ഷ ഏല്ക്കുന്നതിന് എനിക്ക് വിരോധമില്ല. ഇവർ എന്റെ നേരെ ബോധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അന്യായം നേരല്ല എന്നു വരികിലോ എന്നെ അവർക്ക് ഏല്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുവാൻ ആർക്കും കഴിയുന്നതല്ല;
For if I have done wrong and have committed anything worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die; but if none of those things is true that they accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”
12 ൧൨ ഞാൻ കൈസരെ അഭയംചൊല്ലുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ ഫെസ്തൊസ് തന്റെ ആലോചനാസഭയോട് സംസാരിച്ചിട്ട്: “കൈസരെ നീ അഭയം ചൊല്ലിയിരിക്കുന്നു; കൈസരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്ക് നീ പോകും” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you shall go.”
13 ൧൩ ചില ദിവസങ്ങൾക്കുശേഷം അഗ്രിപ്പാരാജാവും ബെർന്നീക്കയും ഫെസ്തൊസിനെ വന്ദനം ചെയ്‌വാൻ കൈസര്യയിൽ എത്തി.
Now when some days had passed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea and greeted Festus.
14 ൧൪ കുറെനാൾ അവിടെ പാർക്കുമ്പോൾ ഫെസ്തൊസ് പൗലൊസിന്റെ സംഗതി രാജാവിനോടു വിവരിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞത്: “ഫേലിക്സ് വിട്ടേച്ചുപോയൊരു തടവുകാരൻ ഉണ്ട്.
As he stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying, “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;
15 ൧൫ ഞാൻ യെരൂശലേമിൽ ചെന്നപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും മൂപ്പന്മാരും എന്റെ അടുക്കൽവന്ന് പൗലൊസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള അവന്റെനേരെ അന്യായം ബോധിപ്പിച്ച്. വിധിക്ക് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence against him.
16 ൧൬ എന്നാൽ പ്രതിവാദികളെ അഭിമുഖമായി കണ്ട് അന്യായത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പ്രതിവാദിക്കുവാൻ അവസരം കിട്ടും മുമ്പെ യാതൊരു മനുഷ്യനെയും ഏല്പിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുന്നത് റോമർക്ക് മര്യാദയല്ല എന്ന് ഞാൻ അവരോട് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
I answered them that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction before the accused has met the accusers face to face and has had opportunity to make his defence concerning the matter laid against him.
17 ൧൭ ആകയാൽ അവർ ഇവിടെ വന്നതിന് ശേഷം ഞാൻ ഒട്ടും താമസിയാതെ പിറ്റെന്ന് തന്നെ ന്യായാസനത്തിൽ ഇരുന്നു; തുടർന്ന് ആ പുരുഷനെ കൊണ്ടുവരുവാൻ കല്പിച്ചു.
When therefore they had come together here, I didn’t delay, but on the next day sat on the judgement seat and commanded the man to be brought.
When the accusers stood up, they brought no charges against him of such things as I supposed;
19 ൧൯ ഒന്നും ബോധിപ്പിക്കാതെ സ്വന്തമതത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് പൗലൊസ് പറയുന്ന മരിച്ചുപോയ യേശു എന്നൊരുവനെക്കുറിച്ചും ചില തർക്കസംഗതികളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതേയുള്ളു.
but had certain questions against him about their own religion and about one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
20 ൨൦ ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ വിചാരണ നടത്തേണ്ടത് എങ്ങനെയെന്ന് ഞാൻ അറിയായ്കയാൽ: നിനക്ക് യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു പോയി അവിടെ ഈ സംഗതികളെക്കുറിച്ച് വിസ്താരം നടപ്പാൻ സമ്മതമുണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
Being perplexed how to enquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.
21 ൨൧ എന്നാൽ പൗലൊസ് ചക്രവർത്തിതിരുമനസ്സിലെ വിധിക്കായി തന്നെ സൂക്ഷിക്കേണം എന്ന് അഭയം ചൊല്ലുകയാൽ കൈസരുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയയ്ക്കുവോളം അവനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുവാൻ കല്പിച്ചു”.
But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar.”
22 ൨൨ “ആ മനുഷ്യന്റെ പ്രസംഗം കേൾക്കുവാൻ എനിക്കും ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു” എന്ന് അഗ്രിപ്പാവ് ഫെസ്തൊസിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതിന്: “നാളെ കേൾക്കാം” എന്നു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.
Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”
23 ൨൩ അടുത്ത ദിവസം അഗ്രിപ്പാവ് ബെർന്നീക്കയുമായി വളരെ പ്രൗഡിയോടെ സഹസ്രാധിപതികളോടും നഗരത്തിലെ പ്രധാനികളോടും കൂടെ വിചാരണമണ്ഡപത്തിൽ വരികയും തുടർന്ന് ഫെസ്തൊസിന്റെ കല്പനയാൽ പൗലൊസിനെ കൊണ്ടുവരികയും ചെയ്തു.
So on the next day, when Agrippa and Bernice had come with great pomp, and they had entered into the place of hearing with the commanding officers and the principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.
24 ൨൪ അപ്പോൾ ഫെസ്തൊസ് പറഞ്ഞത്: “അഗ്രിപ്പാരാജാവും, സന്നിഹിതരായിരിക്കുന്ന സകല പുരുഷന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ സമൂഹം എല്ലാം യെരൂശലേമിലും ഇവിടെയും വച്ച് എന്നോട് അപേക്ഷിക്കുകയും അവനെ ജീവനോടെ വെച്ചേക്കരുത് എന്ന് നിലവിളിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത ഈ മനുഷ്യനെ നിങ്ങൾ കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ.
Festus said, “King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, you see this man about whom all the multitude of the Jews petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
25 ൨൫ അവൻ മരണയോഗ്യമായത് ഒന്നും ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല എന്ന് ഞാൻ ഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൻ തന്നെയും ചക്രവർത്തിതിരുമനസ്സിലെ അഭയം ചൊല്ലുകയാൽ അവനെ അയയ്ക്കേണം എന്ന് ഞാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and as he himself appealed to the emperor, I determined to send him,
26 ൨൬ അവനെക്കുറിച്ച് തിരുമനസ്സിലേക്ക് എഴുതുവാൻ ശരിയായി ഒന്നുംതന്നെ എന്റെ പക്കലില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ട് വിസ്താരം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ട് എഴുതുവാൻ വല്ലതും ഉണ്ടാകേണ്ടതിന് അവനെ താങ്കളുടെ മുമ്പിലും, വിശേഷാൽ അഗ്രിപ്പാരാജാവേ, അങ്ങയുടെ മുമ്പിലും തന്നെ വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
of whom I have no certain thing to write to my lord. Therefore I have brought him out before you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, that, after examination I may have something to write.
27 ൨൭ തടവുകാരനെ അയയ്ക്കുമ്പോൾ അവന്റെ പേരിലുള്ള കുറ്റം ബോദ്ധ്യപ്പെടുത്താതിരിക്കുന്നത് യുക്തമല്ല എന്ന് എനിക്ക് തോന്നുന്നു”.
For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to also specify the charges against him.”
