1 ശമൂവേൽ 9
1 ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രത്തിൽ കീശ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ധനികനായ ഒരാൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം അബിയേലിന്റെ മകനായിരുന്നു. അബിയേൽ സെറോറിന്റെ മകനും സെറോർ ബെഖോറത്തിന്റെ മകനും ബെഖോറത്ത് ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ അഫീഹിന്റെ മകനും ആയിരുന്നു.
Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.
2 കീശിനു ശൗൽ എന്നു പേരുള്ള അതിസുന്ദരനും യുവാവുമായ ഒരു മകൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കളിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കാൾ സുമുഖനായ ഒരു പുരുഷൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ തോളും തലയും ദേശത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്ന എല്ലാവരെക്കാളും ഉയരമുള്ളതായിരുന്നു.
And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a better person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
3 ഒരു ദിവസം ശൗലിന്റെ പിതാവായ കീശിന്റെ കഴുതകളെ കാണാതായി. കീശ് തന്റെ മകനായ ശൗലിനെ വിളിച്ച്, “സേവകന്മാരിൽ ഒരാളെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി നമ്മുടെ കഴുതകളെ തെരയുക!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And the asses of Kish Saul's father were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with you, and arise, go seek the asses.
4 അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം എഫ്രയീം മലനാട്ടിലും ശാലീശാദേശത്തുംകൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ കഴുതകളെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയില്ല. അവർ ശാലീം ദേശത്തിലൂടെയും സഞ്ചരിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും അവയെ കണ്ടെത്താനായില്ല. തുടർന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ബെന്യാമീൻദേശത്തുകൂടി പോയി. എന്നിട്ടും അവയെ കാണാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
And he passed through mount Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not.
5 അവർ സൂഫ് ദേശത്ത് എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഭൃത്യനോട്: “വരിക; നമുക്കു തിരിച്ചുപോകാം. അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പിതാവ് കഴുതകളെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള ചിന്തവിട്ട് നമ്മെപ്പറ്റി ആകുലചിത്തനാകും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses, and take thought for us.
6 എന്നാൽ ഭൃത്യൻ: “ഈ പട്ടണത്തിൽ ഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷനുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹം ആദരണീയനായ ഒരു വ്യക്തിയാണ്; അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളെല്ലാം അതുപോലെ സംഭവിക്കും. നമുക്ക് അവിടേക്കു പോകാം. ഒരുപക്ഷേ നാം പോകേണ്ട വഴി അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞുതരും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he says comes surely to pass: now let us go thither; possibly he can show us our way that we should go.
7 ശൗൽ ഭൃത്യനോട്: “നാം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു പോയാൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനായി എന്താണ് കൊണ്ടുപോകുക? നമ്മുടെ ഭാണ്ഡത്തിലെ ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങൾ തീർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. ദൈവപുരുഷനു കാഴ്ച വെക്കാനായി നമ്മുടെ പക്കൽ ഒന്നുമില്ലല്ലോ! നമ്മുടെ പക്കൽ എന്തെങ്കിലുമുണ്ടോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we?
8 അപ്പോൾ ഭൃത്യൻ വീണ്ടും: “ഇതാ, എന്റെ കൈവശം കാൽ ശേക്കേൽ വെള്ളിയുണ്ട്. ഞാനതു ദൈവപുരുഷനു കാഴ്ചവെക്കാം; നാം പോകേണ്ടതായവഴി അദ്ദേഹം ഉപദേശിച്ചുതരും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way.
9 (മുമ്പ് ഇസ്രായേലിൽ, ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ ദൈവഹിതം ആരായുന്നതിനായി പോകുമ്പോൾ “വരൂ, നമുക്കു ദർശകന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു പോകാം,” എന്നു പറയുമായിരുന്നു. ഇന്നു പ്രവാചകൻ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ആൾ അന്ന് ദർശകൻ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.)
(in time past in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spoke, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was in time past called a Seer.)
10 “അതു കൊള്ളാം, വരൂ, നമുക്കു പോകാം,” എന്നു ശൗൽ തന്റെ ഭൃത്യനോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ദൈവപുരുഷൻ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു യാത്രതിരിച്ചു.
Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.
11 അവർ മല കയറി പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുമ്പോൾ ഏതാനും യുവതികൾ വെള്ളം കോരുന്നതിനായി ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്നതു കണ്ടു. “ദർശകൻ ഇവിടെയുണ്ടോ?” എന്ന് ശൗലും ഭൃത്യനും അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
And as they went up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, Is the seer here?
12 അവർ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ഉണ്ട്, അദ്ദേഹം ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്. അതാ, അദ്ദേഹം നിങ്ങളുടെമുമ്പിൽത്തന്നെയുണ്ട്. വേഗം ചെല്ലുക. ഇന്നു ജനങ്ങൾക്കു മലയിൽവെച്ച് ഒരു യാഗം ഉള്ളതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഇന്നാണു ഞങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണത്തിൽ വന്നെത്തിയത്.
And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place:
13 നിങ്ങൾ പട്ടണത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചാലുടൻ, മലയിലേക്കു ഭക്ഷണത്തിനായി പുറപ്പെടുന്നതിനുമുമ്പുതന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കാണണം. അദ്ദേഹം വന്നെത്തുന്നതുവരെ ജനം ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുകയില്ല. കാരണം അദ്ദേഹം യാഗം ആശീർവദിക്കണം; അതിനുശേഷമേ ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവർ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കൂ. വേഗം കയറിച്ചെല്ലുക; ഇപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കാണാൻ കഴിയും.”
As soon as all of you be come into the city, all of you shall immediately find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he comes, because he does bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time all of you shall find him.
14 അവർ കയറ്റം കയറി പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നു. അവർ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പ്രവേശിക്കുമ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ പ്രവാചകൻ യാഗമർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനു മലയിലേക്കു പോകാൻ അവർക്കെതിരേ വന്നു.
And they went up into the city: and when they were come into the city, behold, Samuel came out against them, in order to go up to the high place.
15 ശൗൽ വന്നെത്തുന്നതിന്റെ തലേദിവസം യഹോവ ശമുവേലിന് ഇപ്രകാരം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊടുത്തിരുന്നു:
Now the LORD had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying,
16 “നാളെ ഏകദേശം ഈ നേരത്ത് ബെന്യാമീൻദേശത്തുനിന്ന് ഒരു പുരുഷനെ ഞാൻ നിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കയയ്ക്കും. എന്റെ ജനമായ ഇസ്രായേലിനു ഭരണാധിപനായി അവനെ അഭിഷേകംചെയ്യുക! അവൻ എന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കൈയിൽനിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കും. എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ നിലവിളി എന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുകയാൽ ഞാനവരോട് കരുണകാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”
Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry has come unto me.
17 ശമുവേൽ ശൗലിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ യഹോവ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “ഞാൻ നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞിരുന്ന പുരുഷൻ ഇതാണ്; ഇവൻ എന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഭരിക്കും” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spoke to you of! this same shall reign over my people.
18 ശൗൽ പടിവാതിൽക്കൽവെച്ച് ശമുവേലിനെ സമീപിച്ച്: “ദർശകന്റെ ഭവനം ഏതാണെന്ന് ദയവായി പറഞ്ഞുതരുമോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray you, where the seer's house is.
19 ശമുവേൽ മറുപടികൊടുത്തു: “ദർശകൻ ഞാൻതന്നെ! എനിക്കുമുമ്പായി മലയിലേക്കു നടന്നുകൊള്ളുക! ഇന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ എന്നോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കണം; നാളെ രാവിലെ ഞാൻ താങ്കളെ യാത്രയാക്കാം; താങ്കളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിലുള്ളതെല്ലാം താങ്കളോടു പറയുകയും ചെയ്യാം.
And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high place; for all of you shall eat with me to day, and tomorrow I will let you go, and will tell you all that is in your heart.
20 മൂന്നുദിവസംമുമ്പ് നിങ്ങൾക്കു നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട കഴുതകളുടെ കാര്യത്തിൽ വ്യാകുലചിത്തരാകേണ്ട. അവ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹമെല്ലാം ആരുടെമേൽ? താങ്കളുടെമേലും താങ്കളുടെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന്മേലും അല്ലയോ?”
And as for your asses that were lost three days ago, set not your mind on them; for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on you, and on all your father's house?
21 അപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ: “ഞാനൊരു ബെന്യാമീന്യനാണല്ലോ? ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ സകലഗോത്രങ്ങളിലുംവെച്ച് ഏറ്റം ചെറിയ ഗോത്രത്തിൽനിന്നുള്ളവൻ! എന്റെ കുലം ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രത്തിലെ സകലകുലങ്ങളിലുംവെച്ച് ഏറ്റവും ചെറുതായിരിക്കെ, അങ്ങ് എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണ് എന്നോടിങ്ങനെ പറയുന്നത്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speak you so to me?
22 അതിനുശേഷം ശമുവേൽ ശൗലിനെയും ഭൃത്യനെയും വിരുന്നുശാലയിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ പ്രധാനസ്ഥാനത്തിരുത്തി. ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവർ ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതു പേരായിരുന്നു.
And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the parlour, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden, which were about thirty persons.
23 ശമുവേൽ പാചകക്കാരനോട്, “പ്രത്യേകം മാറ്റിവെക്കാനായി ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞേൽപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന ഓഹരി കൊണ്ടുവരിക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said unto you, Set it by you.
24 അങ്ങനെ പാചകക്കാരൻ കൈക്കുറകും അതിന്മേലുള്ളതും കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് ശൗലിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വിളമ്പി. അപ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ: “താങ്കൾക്കുവേണ്ടി മാറ്റി സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവെച്ചിരുന്ന ഭക്ഷണമിതാ! ഭക്ഷിച്ചുകൊൾക! ഈ അവസരത്തിൽ താങ്കൾക്കു തരുവാനായി വേർതിരിച്ചുവെച്ചിരുന്നതാണിത്. ‘ഞാനും വിരുന്നുകാരെ ക്ഷണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്,’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ഇതു ഞാൻ താങ്കൾക്കുവേണ്ടി സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവെച്ചിരുന്നതാണ്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അന്ന് ശൗൽ ശമുവേലിനോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.
And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left! set it before you, and eat: for unto this time has it been kept for you since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
25 അവർ മലയിൽനിന്നിറങ്ങി പട്ടണത്തിൽ വന്നശേഷം ശമുവേൽ തന്റെ വീടിന്റെ മട്ടുപ്പാവിലിരുന്ന് ശൗലുമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.
And when they were come down from the high place into the city, Samuel communed with Saul upon the top of the house.
26 പ്രഭാതത്തിൽ അവർ ഉണർന്നെഴുന്നേറ്റു. ശമുവേൽ മട്ടുപ്പാവിൽചെന്ന് ശൗലിനെ വിളിച്ചു. “എഴുന്നേൽക്കുക. ഇന്നു ഞാൻ താങ്കളെ യാത്രയയയ്ക്കാം,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശൗൽ യാത്രയ്ക്ക് ഒരുങ്ങിക്കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അവർ ഒന്നിച്ചു യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു.
And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send you away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.
27 പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ അതിരിലേക്ക് അവർ ഇറങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ ശൗലിനോട്: “ഭൃത്യനോട് മുമ്പോട്ടുകയറി നടന്നുകൊള്ളാൻ പറയുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഭൃത്യൻ അപ്രകാരംചെയ്തു. അപ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ: “അൽപ്പനേരം നിൽക്കുക! ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാട് എനിക്കു താങ്കളെ അറിയിക്കാനുണ്ട്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on), but stand you still a while, that I may show you the word of God.
