Hiezechielis Prophetæ 27
1 Et factum est verbum Domini ad me, dicens:
The word of Jehovah came again to me, saying:
2 Tu ergo fili hominis assume super Tyrum lamentum:
Son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre,
3 Et dices Tyro, quae habitat in introitu maris, negotiationi populorum ad insulas multas: Haec dicit Dominus Deus: O Tyre, tu dixisti: Perfecti decoris ego sum,
and say to Tyre, O thou that didst dwell at the entrance of the sea, the merchant of the nations to many coasts! thus saith the Lord Jehovah: O Tyre, thou hast said, “I am perfect in beauty.”
4 et in corde maris sita. Finitimi tui, qui te aedificaverunt, impleverunt decorem tuum:
Thy borders are in the midst of the seas; thy builders have perfected thy beauty.
5 abietibus de Sanir extruxerunt te cum omnibus tabulatis maris: cedrum de Libano tulerunt ut facerent tibi malum.
They made all thy ship-boards of cypresses of Senir; they took cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee.
6 Quercus de Basan dolaverunt in remos tuos: et transtra tua fecerunt tibi ex ebore Indico, et praetoriola de insulis Italiae.
Of oaks of Bashan they made thine oars; thy benches they made of ivory inlaid in cedar from the coasts of the Chittaeans.
7 Byssus varia de Aegypto texta est tibi in velum ut poneretur in malo: hyacinthus, et purpura de insulis Elisa facta sunt operimentum tuum.
Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that which thou didst spread forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the coasts of Elisha were thy covering.
8 Habitatores Sidonis, et Aradii fuerunt remiges tui: sapientes tui, Tyre, facti sunt gubernatores tui.
The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy rowers; thy wise men, O Tyre, that were in thee, were thy pilots.
9 Senes Giblii, et prudentes eius habuerunt nautas ad ministerium variae supellectilis tuae: omnes naves maris, et nautae earum fuerunt in populo negotiationis tuae.
The ancients of Gebal and the skilful men thereof were in thee, thy calkers; all the ships of the sea, with their mariners, were in thee, to traffic in thy merchandise.
10 Persae, et Lydii, et Libyes erant in exercitu tuo viri bellatores tui: clypeum, et galeam suspenderunt in te pro ornatu tuo.
Persians, and Lydians, and Lybians were in thine army, thy men of war; they hung up the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy glory.
11 Filii Aradii cum exercitu tuo erant super muros tuos in circuitu: sed et Pigmaei, qui erant in turribus tuis, pharetras suas suspenderunt in muris tuis per gyrum: ipsi compleverunt pulchritudinem tuam.
The men of Arvad and thine own army were upon thy walls round about, and brave warriors were in thy towers; they hung their shields upon thy walls round about; they made thy beauty perfect.
12 Chartaginenses negotiatores tui, a multitudine cunctarum divitiarum, argento, ferro, stanno, plumboque repleverunt nundinas tuas.
Tarshish trafficked with thee on account of the abundance of all kinds of goods; with silver, iron, tin, and lead they traded in thy fairs.
13 Graecia, Thubal, et Mosoch, ipsi institores tui: mancipia, et vasa aerea adduxerunt populo tuo.
Javan, Tubal, and Meshech trafficked with thee; the persons of men and vessels of brass they sold in thy market.
14 De domo Thogorma, equos, et equites, et mulos adduxerunt ad forum tuum.
They of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.
15 Filii Dedan negotiatores tui: insulae multae negotiatio manus tuae: dentes eburneos, et hebeninos commutaverunt in pretio tuo.
The men of Dedan trafficked with thee; many islands were at hand to thee for trade; they brought thee, for payment, horns of ivory, and ebony-wood.
16 Syrus negotiator tuus propter multitudinem operum tuorum, gemmam, et purpuram, et scutulata, et byssum, et sericum, et chodchod proposuerunt in mercatu tuo.
Syria trafficked with thee by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making; with carbuncles, purple and embroidered work, and fine linen, and corals, and rubies, they traded in thy fairs.
17 Iuda et terra Israel ipsi institores tui in frumento primo, balsamum, et mel, et oleum, et resinam proposuerunt in nundinis tuis.
Judah and the land of Israel trafficked with thee; with wheat of Minnith, and pastry, and syrup, and oil, and balm they traded in thy market.
18 Damascenus negotiator tuus in multitudine operum tuorum, in multitudine diversarum opum, in vino pingui, in lanis coloris optimi.
Damascus trafficked with thee on account of the multitude of the wares of thy making, on account of the abundance of all kinds of goods, in the wine of Helbon, and in white wool.
19 Dan, et Graecia, et Mosel in nundinis tuis proposuerunt ferrum fabrefactum: stacte, et calamus in negotiatione tua.
Vedan and Javan brought thread to thy market; wrought iron, cassia, and sweet reed were in thy fairs.
20 Dedan institores tui in tapetibus ad sedendum.
Dedan brought cloth for riding, in traffic with thee.
21 Arabia, et universi principes Cedar, ipsi negotiatores manus tuae: cum agnis, et arietibus, et hoedis venerunt ad te negotiatores tui.
Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were at hand to traffic with thee; they traded with thee in lambs and rams and goats.
22 Venditores Saba, et Reema, ipsi negotiatores tui: cum universis primis aromatibus, et lapide pretioso, et auro, quod proposuerunt in mercatu tuo.
The merchants of Sheba and Raamah trafficked with thee with all kinds of precious spices, and with all kinds of precious stones, and gold.
23 Haran, et Chene, et Eden negotiatores tui: Saba, Assur, et Chelmad venditores tui.
Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Assyria, and Chilmad,
24 ipsi negotiatores tui multifariam involucris hyacinthi, et polymitorum, gazarumque pretiosarum, quae obvolutae, et astrictae erant funibus: cedros quoque habebant in negotiationibus tuis.
trafficked with thee in splendid apparel, in mantles of blue and embroidered work, in chests of damask bound with cords and made of cedar, in thy market.
25 Naves maris, principes tui in negotiatione tua: et repleta es, et glorificata nimis in corde maris.
The ships of Tarshish were the caravans for thy traffic; and thou wast replenished and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.
26 In aquis multis adduxerunt te remiges tui: ventus auster contrivit te in corde maris.
Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters; the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas.
27 Divitiae tuae, et thesauri tui, et multiplex instrumentum tuum, nautae tui et gubernatores tui, qui tenebant supellectilem tuam, et populo tuo praeerant: viri quoque bellatores tui, qui erant in te cum universa multitudine tua, quae est in medio tui: cadent in corde maris in die ruinae tuae.
Thy riches, and thy fairs, and thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the traders in thy merchandise, and all thy men of war within thee, and all thy multitude that is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
28 A sonitu clamoris gubernatorum tuorum conturbabuntur classes:
At the sound of the cry of thy pilots the pastures around thee shall shake.
29 Et descendent de navibus suis omnes, qui tenebant remum: nautae, et universi gubernatores maris in terra stabunt:
And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand upon the land,
30 et eiulabunt super te voce magna, et clamabunt amare: et superiacient pulverem capitibus suis, et cinere conspergentur.
and shall cause their voice to be heard for thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast dust upon their heads, and roll themselves in ashes.
31 Et radent super te calvitium, et accingentur ciliciis: et plorabunt te in amaritudine animae ploratu amarissimo.
And they shall make themselves utterly bald for thee, and gird themselves with sackcloth; and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.
32 Et assument super te carmen lugubre, et plangent te: Quae est ut Tyrus, quae obmutuit in medio maris?
And in their wailing they shall take up for thee a lamentation, and shall lament over thee, saying: “What city is like Tyre, like the Destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33 Quae in exitu negotiationum tuarum de mari implesti populos multos: in multitudine divitiarum tuarum, et populorum tuorum ditasti reges terrae.
When thy wares went forth from the seas, thou didst satisfy many nations; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the abundance of thy riches and thy merchandise.
34 Nunc contrita es a mari, in profundis aquarum opes tuae, et omnis multitudo tua, quae erat in medio tui, ceciderunt.
Now thou art broken by the seas in the depth of the waters, and thy merchandise and all thy multitude in the midst of thee are fallen.
35 Universi habitatores insularum obstupuerunt super te: et reges earum omnes tempestate percussi mutaverunt vultus.
All the inhabitants of the isles are astonished at thee, and their kings shudder; they are troubled in their countenance.
36 Negotiatores populorum sibilaverunt super te: ad nihilum deducta es, et non eris usque in perpetuum.
The merchants among the nations hiss at thee. Thou art a desolation, and shalt exist no more forever.”
