< Psalmorum 48 >

1 Psalmus Cantici, filiis Core, secunda sabbati. Magnus Dominus, et laudabilis nimis in civitate Dei nostri, in monte sancto eius.
A Song; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised, In the city of our God, in his holy mountain.
2 Fundatur exultatione universæ terræ mons Sion, latera Aquilonis, civitas Regis magni.
Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, Is mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, The city of the great King.
3 Deus in domibus eius cognoscetur, cum suscipiet eam.
God hath made himself known in her palaces for a refuge.
4 Quoniam ecce reges terræ congregati sunt: convenerunt in unum.
For, lo, the kings assembled themselves, They passed by together.
5 Ipsi videntes sic admirati sunt, conturbati sunt, commoti sunt:
They saw it, then were they amazed; They were dismayed, they hasted away.
6 tremor apprehendit eos. Ibi dolores ut parturientis,
Trembling took hold of them there, Pain, as of a woman in travail.
7 in spiritu vehementi conteres naves Tharsis.
With the east wind Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish.
8 Sicut audivimus, sic vidimus in civitate Domini virtutum, in civitate Dei nostri: Deus fundavit eam in æternum.
As we have heard, so have we seen In the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. (Selah)
9 Suscepimus Deus misericordiam tuam, in medio templi tui.
We have thought on thy lovingkindness, O God, In the midst of thy temple.
10 Secundum nomen tuum Deus, sic et laus tua in fines terræ: iustitia plena est dextera tua.
As is thy name, O God, So is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: Thy right hand is full of righteousness.
11 Lætetur mons Sion, et exultent filiæ Iudæ, propter iudicia tua Domine.
Let mount Zion be glad, Let the daughters of Judah rejoice, Because of thy judgments.
12 Circumdate Sion, et complectimini eam: narrate in turribus eius.
Walk about Zion, and go round about her; Number the towers thereof;
13 Ponite corda vestra in virtute eius: et distribuite domos eius, ut enarretis in progenie altera.
Mark ye well her bulwarks; Consider her palaces: That ye may tell it to the generation following.
14 Quoniam hic est Deus, Deus noster in æternum, et in sæculum sæculi: ipse reget nos in sæcula.
For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide [even] unto death.
