ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಗಳು 26

1 ೧ ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಮ, ಸುಗ್ಗಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಳೆ ಹೇಗೋ, ಮೂಢನಿಗೆ ಮಾನವು ಹಾಗೆ ಸರಿಯಲ್ಲ.

As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

2 ೨ ಕುಪ್ಪಳಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಗುಬ್ಬಿಯಂತೆ, ಹಾರಾಡುವ ಬಾನಕ್ಕಿಯ ಹಾಗೆ, ಕಾರಣವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಶಾಪವು ಎರಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲದು.

As the wandering sparrow, as the flying swallow, so the curse that is causeless shall come home.

3 ೩ ಕುದುರೆಗೆ ಚಬುಕು, ಕತ್ತೆಗೆ ಕಡಿವಾಣ, ಮೂಢನ ಬೆನ್ನಿಗೆ ಬೆತ್ತ.

A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.

4 ೪ ಮೂಢನ ಮೂರ್ಖತನಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಕೊಡಬೇಡ, ನೀನೂ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನನಾದೀಯೆ.

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

5 ೫ ಮೂಢನ ಮೂರ್ಖತನಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಕೊಡು, ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯೆಂದು ಎಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಾನು.

Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

6 ೬ ಮೂಢನ ಮೂಲಕ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಕಳುಹಿಸುವವನು, ತನ್ನ ಕಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಕಡಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಕೇಡನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯುವನು.

He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off his own feet, and drinketh damage.

7 ೭ ಮೂಢನ ಬಾಯಿಯ ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಯು, ಜೋಲಾಡುವ ಕುಂಟಕಾಲು.

The legs hang limp from the lame; so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

8 ೮ ಮೂಢನಿಗೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಮಾನವು, ಕವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಹಾಗೆ.

As a small stone in a heap of stones, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.

9 ೯ ಮೂಢನ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಯು, ಕುಡುಕನ ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ ಮುಳ್ಳುಗೋಲಿನ ಹಾಗೆ.

As a thorn that cometh into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

10 ೧೦ ಮೂಢರನ್ನೂ, ತಿರುಗಾಡುವವರನ್ನೂ ಕೂಲಿಗೆ ಕರೆಯುವವನು, ಯಾರಿಗೋ ತಗಲಲಿ ಎಂದು ಬಾಣವನ್ನು ಎಸೆಯುವವನಂತೆ.

A master performeth all things; but he that stoppeth a fool is as one that stoppeth a flood.

11 ೧೧ ನಾಯಿ ತಾನು ಕಕ್ಕಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನೆಕ್ಕುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಹಾಗೆ, ಮೂಢನು ತಾನು ಮಾಡಿದ ಮೂರ್ಖತನವನ್ನೇ ಪುನಃ ಮಾಡುವನು.

As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is a fool that repeateth his folly.

12 ೧೨ ತಾನೇ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯೆಂದು ಎಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವನನ್ನು ನೋಡು, ಅಂಥವನಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಮೂಢನ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನಿಡಬಹುದು.

Seest thou a man wise in his own eyes? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

13 ೧೩ “ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಂಹವಿದೆ, ಬೀದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಿರುಗಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ” ಎಂಬುದು ಸೋಮಾರಿಯ ನೆವ.

The sluggard saith: 'There is a lion in the way; yea, a lion is in the streets.'

14 ೧೪ ಕದವು ತಿರುಗುಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಗೋ, ಹಾಗೆ ಸೋಮಾರಿಯು ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊರಳಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವನು.

The door is turning upon its hinges, and the sluggard is still upon his bed.

15 ೧೫ ಸೋಮಾರಿಯು ಪಾತ್ರೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಕೈ ಮುಳುಗಿಸಿದ ಮೇಲೆ, ತಿರುಗಿ ಬಾಯಿಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ ತರಲಾರದಷ್ಟು ಆಯಾಸಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; it wearieth him to bring it back to his mouth.

16 ೧೬ ವಿವೇಕದಿಂದ ಉತ್ತರಕೊಡಬಲ್ಲ ಏಳು ಜನರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ, ತಾನೇ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯೆಂದು ಸೋಮಾರಿಯು ಎಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು.

The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men that give wise answer.

17 ೧೭ ಒಬ್ಬನು ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾ ಪರರ ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿ ರೇಗಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ನಾಯಿಯ ಕಿವಿಹಿಡಿದ ಹಾಗೆ.

He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife not his own, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

18 ೧೮ ನೆರೆಯವನನ್ನು ಮೋಸಗೊಳಿಸಿ, “ತಮಾಷೆಗೋಸ್ಕರ, ಮಾಡಿದೆನಲ್ಲಾ” ಎನ್ನುವವನು,

As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death;

19 ೧೯ ಕೊಳ್ಳಿಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಅಂಬುಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಸಾವನ್ನೂ ಬೀರುವ, ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹುಚ್ಚನ ಹಾಗೆ.

So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith: 'Am not I in sport?'

20 ೨೦ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆಯಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಆರುವುದು, ಚಾಡಿಕೋರನು ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಜಗಳ ಶಮನವಾಗುವುದು.

Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.

21 ೨೧ ಕೆಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಇದ್ದಲು, ಉರಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆ, ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯದ ಕಿಚ್ಚನ್ನೆಬ್ಬಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಜಗಳಗಂಟಿಗ.

As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

22 ೨೨ ಚಾಡಿಕೋರನ ಮಾತುಗಳು ರುಚಿಯಾದ ತುತ್ತುಗಳು, ಇವು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯೊಳಕ್ಕೇ ಇಳಿಯುವವು.

The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.

23 ೨೩ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಹೃದಯದಿಂದ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯನ್ನಾಡುವ ತುಟಿಯು, ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ ಲೇಪನ ಮಾಡಿದ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಮಡಿಕೆಯ ಹಾಗೆ.

Burning lips and a wicked heart are like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.

24 ೨೪ ಶತ್ರುವು ಸ್ನೇಹಭಾವದಿಂದ ನಟಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಅಂತರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೀ ಮೋಸವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ.

He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him.

25 ೨೫ ಸವಿಮಾತನಾಡಿದರೂ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಂಬಬೇಡ, ಅವನ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಹೇಯ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳು.

When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart.

26 ೨೬ ತನ್ನ ಹಗೆಯನ್ನು ವಂಚನೆಯಿಂದ ಮರೆಮಾಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರೂ, ಅವನ ಕೆಟ್ಟತನವು ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೈಲಾಗುವುದು.

Though his hatred be concealed with deceit, his wickedness shall be revealed before the congregation.

27 ೨೭ ಗುಂಡಿಯನ್ನು ತೋಡುವವನು ತಾನೇ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳುವನು, ಹೊರಳಿಸುವವನ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ ಕಲ್ಲು ಹೊರಳುವುದು.

Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.

28 ೨೮ ಸುಳ್ಳು ನಾಲಿಗೆಯವನು ತಾನು ಬಾಧಿಸಿದವರನ್ನೇ ದ್ವೇಷಿಸುವನು, ಕಪಟದ ಬಾಯಿ ನಾಶಕರ.

A lying tongue hateth those that are crushed by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
