ಮತ್ತಾಯನು 5
And having seen the multitudes, he went up to the mount, and he having sat down, his disciples came to him,
and having opened his mouth, he was teaching them, saying:
'Happy the poor in spirit — because theirs is the reign of the heavens.
'Happy the mourning — because they shall be comforted.
'Happy the meek — because they shall inherit the land.
'Happy those hungering and thirsting for righteousness — because they shall be filled.
'Happy the kind — because they shall find kindness.
'Happy the clean in heart — because they shall see God.
'Happy the peacemakers — because they shall be called Sons of God.
'Happy those persecuted for righteousness' sake — because theirs is the reign of the heavens.
11 ೧೧ “ನನ್ನ ನಿಮಿತ್ತವಾಗಿ ಜನರು ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನಿಂದಿಸಿ ಹಿಂಸೆಪಡಿಸಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಸುಳ್ಳಾಗಿ ಹೊರಿಸಿದರೆ ನೀವು ಧನ್ಯರು.
'Happy are ye whenever they may reproach you, and may persecute, and may say any evil thing against you falsely for my sake —
12 ೧೨ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡಿರಿ, ಉಲ್ಲಾಸಪಡಿರಿ; ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಫಲ ಸಿಕ್ಕುವುದು; ನಿಮಗಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ಇದ್ದ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅವರು ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಹಿಂಸೆಪಡಿಸಿದರಲ್ಲಾ.
rejoice ye and be glad, because your reward [is] great in the heavens, for thus did they persecute the prophets who were before you.
13 ೧೩ “ನೀವು ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಉಪ್ಪಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಉಪ್ಪು ಸಪ್ಪಗಾದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವುದರಿಂದ ಉಪ್ಪಿನ ರುಚಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ? ಜನರು ಅದನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆಹಾಕಿ ದಾರಿಹೋಕರು ತುಳಿಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅದು ಯೋಗ್ಯವೇ ಹೊರತು ಮತ್ತ್ಯಾವ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೂ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
'Ye are the salt of the land, but if the salt may lose savour, in what shall it be salted? for nothing is it good henceforth, except to be cast without, and to be trodden down by men.
'Ye are the light of the world, a city set upon a mount is not able to be hid;
15 ೧೫ ಮತ್ತು ಯಾರೂ ದೀಪವನ್ನು ಹತ್ತಿಸಿ ಕೊಳಗದೊಳಗೆ ಇಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ದೀಪಸ್ತಂಭದ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ ಇಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆಗ ಅದು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಕೊಡುವುದು.
nor do they light a lamp, and put it under the measure, but on the lamp-stand, and it shineth to all those in the house;
16 ೧೬ ಅದರಂತೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬೆಳಕು ಜನರ ಮುಂದೆ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಿಸಲಿ. ಆಗ ಅವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡಾಡುವರು.
so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father who [is] in the heavens.
17 ೧೭ “ಮೋಶೆಯ ಧರ್ಮನಿಯಮವನ್ನಾಗಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಪ್ರವಾದನೆಗಳನ್ನಾಗಲಿ ನಿರರ್ಥಕಪಡಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಬಂದೆನೆಂದು ನೆನಸಬೇಡಿರಿ; ನಿರರ್ಥಕಪಡಿಸಲು ಬಂದಿಲ್ಲ; ಬದಲಾಗಿ ನೆರವೇರಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
'Do not suppose that I came to throw down the law or the prophets — I did not come to throw down, but to fulfil;
18 ೧೮ ನಿಮಗೆ ಸತ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಆಕಾಶವೂ ಭೂಮಿಯೂ ಅಳಿದುಹೋಗುವ ತನಕ ಧರ್ಮನಿಯಮವೆಲ್ಲಾ ನೆರವೇರಿದ ಹೊರತು ಅದರೊಳಗಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಚುಕ್ಕೆಯಾಗಲಿ, ಒಂದು ಅಕ್ಷರವಾಗಲಿ ಅಳಿದುಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
for, verily I say to you, till that the heaven and the earth may pass away, one iota or one tittle may not pass away from the law, till that all may come to pass.
19 ೧೯ ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಸಣ್ಣ ಆಜ್ಞೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದನ್ನು ಮೀರಿ ನಡೆದು ಜನರಿಗೂ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೋಧಿಸುವವನು ಪರಲೋಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಕನಿಷ್ಠನೆನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು; ಆದರೆ ತಾನೇ ಸ್ವತಃ ಆ ಆಜ್ಞೆಗಳಂತೆ ನಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಜನರಿಗೂ ಹಾಗೆ ನಡೆಯಬೇಕೆಂದು ಬೋಧಿಸುವವನು ಪರಲೋಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠನೆನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು.
'Whoever therefore may loose one of these commands — the least — and may teach men so, least he shall be called in the reign of the heavens, but whoever may do and may teach [them], he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.
20 ೨೦ ನಿಮ್ಮ ನೀತಿಯು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳ ಮತ್ತು ಫರಿಸಾಯರ ನೀತಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿರದಿದ್ದರೆ ನೀವು ಪರಲೋಕ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಲಾರಿರಿ ಎಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.
'For I say to you, that if your righteousness may not abound above that of the scribes and Pharisees, ye may not enter to the reign of the heavens.
21 ೨೧ “‘ನರಹತ್ಯ ಮಾಡಬಾರದು; ನರಹತ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವವನು ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪಿಗೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗುವನೆಂದು’ ಹಿರಿಯರಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿಯದೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
'Ye heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not kill, and whoever may kill shall be in danger of the judgment;
22 ೨೨ ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದೇನಂದರೆ, ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಿಟ್ಟುಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪಿಗೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗುವನು; ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ, ‘ಎಲೈ ಮೂರ್ಖನೇ’ ಎಂದು ಅನ್ನುವವನು ನ್ಯಾಯ ಸಭೆಯ ವಿಚಾರಣೆಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಗುವನು; ‘ಎಲೈ ನೀಚನೇ’ ಎಂದು ಅನ್ನುವವನು, ಅಗ್ನಿ ನರಕಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗುವನು. (Geenna g1067)
but I — I say to you, that every one who is angry at his brother without cause, shall be in danger of the judgment, and whoever may say to his brother, Empty fellow! shall be in danger of the sanhedrim, and whoever may say, Rebel! shall be in danger of the gehenna of the fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 ೨೩ ಆದಕಾರಣ ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಹತ್ತಿರಕ್ಕೆ ತಂದಾಗ ನಿನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಏನೋ ವಿರೋಧವಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ನಿನ್ನ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಬಂದರೆ,
'If, therefore, thou mayest bring thy gift to the altar, and there mayest remember that thy brother hath anything against thee,
24 ೨೪ ನಿನ್ನ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಆ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮುಂದೆಯೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗಿ ಮೊದಲು ನಿನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನ ಸಂಗಡ ಒಂದಾಗು; ಆ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂದು ನಿನ್ನ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡು.
leave there thy gift before the altar, and go — first be reconciled to thy brother, and then having come bring thy gift.
25 ೨೫ “ಇನ್ನೂ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವಾಗಲೇ ನಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರತಿವಾದಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬೇಗ ಸಂಧಾನ ಮಾಡಿಕೋ; ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಆ ಆಪಾದಕನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ನ್ಯಾಯಾಧಿಪತಿಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಾನು ನ್ಯಾಯಾಧಿಪತಿಯು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಮನೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯ ಕೈಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಾನು. ಆಗ ನೀನು ಸೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಸೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವಿ.
'Be agreeing with thy opponent quickly, while thou art in the way with him, that the opponent may not deliver thee to the judge, and the judge may deliver thee to the officer, and to prison thou mayest be cast,
26 ೨೬ ನೀನು ಒಂದು ಕಾಸನ್ನಾದರೂ ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ತನಕ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬರುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನಿನಗೆ ಸತ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.
verily I say to thee, thou mayest not come forth thence till that thou mayest pay the last farthing.
'Ye heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not commit adultery;
28 ೨೮ ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದೇನಂದರೆ, ಪರಸ್ತ್ರೀಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಮೋಹಿಸುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಆಗಲೇ ತನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಕೆಯ ಕೂಡ ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರ ಮಾಡಿದವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
but I — I say to you, that every one who is looking on a woman to desire her, did already commit adultery with her in his heart.
29 ೨೯ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಲಗಣ್ಣು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಪಾಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಸುವುದಾದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಕಿತ್ತು ಎಸೆದುಬಿಡು, ನಿನ್ನ ದೇಹವೆಲ್ಲಾ ನರಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೇಹದ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಹೋಗುವುದು ನಿನಗೆ ಹಿತವಲ್ಲವೇ. (Geenna g1067)

30 ೩೦ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಲಗೈ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಪಾಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಸುವುದಾದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಕಡಿದು ಎಸೆದುಬಿಡು, ನಿನ್ನ ದೇಹವೆಲ್ಲಾ ನರಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೇಹದ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಹೋಗುವುದು ನಿನಗೆ ಹಿತವಲ್ಲವೇ. (Geenna g1067)

'And it was said, That whoever may put away his wife, let him give to her a writing of divorce;
32 ೩೨ ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದೇನಂದರೆ, ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರದ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಲ್ಲದೆ ತನ್ನ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಡುವವನು ಅವಳು ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಗಂಡಬಿಟ್ಟವಳನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವನು ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರಮಾಡುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
but I — I say to you, that whoever may put away his wife, save for the matter of whoredom, doth make her to commit adultery; and whoever may marry her who hath been put away doth commit adultery.
33 ೩೩ “ಮತ್ತು, ನೀನು ಸುಳ್ಳಾಣೆಯಿಡಬಾರದು; ‘ನೀನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಆಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕರ್ತನಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಹಿರಿಯರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ’ ಹೇಳಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೀರಷ್ಟೆ.
'Again, ye heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not swear falsely, but thou shalt pay to the Lord thine oaths;
34 ೩೪ ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದೇನಂದರೆ, ಆಣೆಯನ್ನೇ ಇಡಬೇಡಿರಿ. ಆಕಾಶದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆ ಇಡಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಅದು ದೇವರ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನವು.
but I — I say to you, not to swear at all; neither by the heaven, because it is the throne of God,
nor by the earth, because it is His footstool, nor by Jerusalem, because it is a city of a great king,
nor by thy head mayest thou swear, because thou art not able one hair to make white or black;
37 ೩೭ ಆದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಾತು ‘ಹೌದಾದರೆ ಹೌದು ಅಲ್ಲವಾದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲ’ ಎಂದಿರಲಿ. ಇದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದದ್ದು ಸೈತಾನನಿಂದ ಬರುವಂತಹದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ.
but let your word be, Yes, Yes, No, No, and that which is more than these is of the evil.
38 ೩೮ “‘ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಹಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಹಲ್ಲನ್ನು ತೆಗೆಯಿಸು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿರುವುದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೀರಷ್ಟೆ.
'Ye heard that it was said: Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth;
39 ೩೯ ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದೇನಂದರೆ, ಕೆಡುಕನನ್ನು ವಿರೋಧಿಸಬೇಡ. ಒಬ್ಬನು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಲಗೆನ್ನೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊಡೆದರೆ ಅವನಿಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಕೆನ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಸಹ ತಿರುಗಿಸು.
but I — I say to you, not to resist the evil, but whoever shall slap thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other;
and whoever is willing to take thee to law, and thy coat to take — suffer to him also the cloak.
'And whoever shall impress thee one mile, go with him two,
to him who is asking of thee be giving, and him who is willing to borrow from thee thou mayest not turn away.
'Ye heard that it was said: Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and shalt hate thine enemy;
44 ೪೪ ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದೇನಂದರೆ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ವೈರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಿರಿ; ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಹಿಂಸೆಪಡಿಸುವವರಿಗೊಸ್ಕರ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿರಿ.
but I — I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those accusing you falsely, and persecuting you,
45 ೪೫ ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ, ನೀವು ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆಗೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾಗುವಿರಿ. ಆತನು ಕೆಟ್ಟವರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ತನ್ನ ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಉದಯಿಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ನೀತಿವಂತರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅನೀತಿವಂತರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಮಳೆ ಸುರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
that ye may be sons of your Father in the heavens, because His sun He doth cause to rise on evil and good, and He doth send rain on righteous and unrighteous.
'For, if ye may love those loving you, what reward have ye? do not also the tax-gatherers the same?
47 ೪೭ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಹೋದರರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ನೀವು ಮರ್ಯಾದೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಏನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಾಡಿದ ಹಾಗಾಯಿತು? ಅನ್ಯಜನರು ಸಹ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರಲ್ಲವೇ.
and if ye may salute your brethren only, what do ye abundant? do not also the tax-gatherers so?
ye shall therefore be perfect, as your Father who [is] in the heavens is perfect.
