ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿ 7

1 ೧ ಸುಗಂಧತೈಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಹೆಸರು ಉತ್ತಮ, ಮತ್ತು ಜನನ ದಿನಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮರಣ ದಿನವೇ ಮೇಲು.

A good name [is] better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

2 ೨ ಔತಣದ ಮನೆಗಿಂತ ಮರಣದುಃಖದ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು ಲೇಸು. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಗೂ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಇದೇ ಗತಿ, ಜೀವಂತನು ಇದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ತನ್ನ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಮರಿಸುವನು.

[It is] better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that [is] the end of all men; and the living will lay [it] to his heart.

3 ೩ ನಗೆಗಿಂತ ದುಃಖವು ವಾಸಿ, ಮುಖವು ಸಪ್ಪಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೇಲು.

Sorrow [is] better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

4 ೪ ದುಃಖದ ಮನೆಯು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ನೆಲೆ, ಉಲ್ಲಾಸದ ಮನೆಯು ಮೂಢರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ನಿವಾಸ.

The heart of the wise [is] in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools [is] in the house of mirth.

5 ೫ ಮೂಢರ ಗಾನಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳ ಗದರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದು ಲೇಸು.

[It is] better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

6 ೬ ಮೂಢರ ನಗುವು ಮಡಿಕೆಯ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಉರಿಯುವ ಮುಳ್ಳಿನ ಚಟಪಟ ಶಬ್ದದ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ. ಇದೂ ಕೂಡ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.

For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so [is] the laughter of the fool: this also [is] vanity.

7 ೭ ದಬ್ಬಾಳಿಕೆಯು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯನ್ನು ಮೂರ್ಖನನ್ನಾಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಲಂಚವು ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ಕೆಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.

8 ೮ ಆದಿಗಿಂತ ಅಂತ್ಯವು ಲೇಸು; ಅಹಂಕಾರಿಗಿಂತ ತಾಳ್ಮೆಯುಳ್ಳವನು ಉತ್ತಮ.

Better [is] the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit.

9 ೯ ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಕೋಪಕ್ಕೆ ಆತುರಪಡದಿರಲಿ, ಕೋಪಕ್ಕೆ ಮೂಢರ ಎದೆಯೇ ಲೇಸು.

Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

10 ೧೦ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕಾಲವು ಈ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮೇಲಾದದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವೇನು ಅನ್ನಬೇಡ. ನೀನು ಈ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಚಾರಿಸುವುದು ಜ್ಞಾನಕಾರ್ಯವಲ್ಲ.

Say not thou, What is [the cause] that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this.

11 ೧೧ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಸ್ವತ್ತಿನಂತೆ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನಕರ. ಇದು ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವಿಸುವವರಿಗೆ ಸ್ವತ್ತಿಗಿಂತ ಉತ್ತಮೋತ್ತಮವಾಗಿದೆ.

Wisdom [is] good with an inheritance: and [by it there is] profit to them that see the sun.

12 ೧೨ ಧನವು ಹೇಗೊ ಹಾಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಆಶ್ರಯ. ಜ್ಞಾನಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷವೇನೆಂದರೆ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದವನಿಗೆ ಅದು ಜೀವದಾಯಕವೆಂಬುದೇ.

For wisdom [is] a defence, [and] money [is] a defence: but the excellency of knowledge [is, that] wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

13 ೧೩ ದೇವರ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೋಡು; ಆತನು ಸೊಟ್ಟಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನೆಟ್ಟಗೆ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾರಿಂದಾದೀತು?

Consider the work of God: for who can make [that] straight, which he hath made crooked?

14 ೧೪ ಸುಖದ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಖದಿಂದಿರು, ದುಃಖದ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಚಿಸು; ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ತನ್ನ ಕಾಲವಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಂಭವಿಸುವ ಯಾವುದನ್ನೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಸಲಾರದಂತೆ, ದೇವರು ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದರ ಮೇಲೊಂದು ಬರಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ.

In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.

15 ೧೫ ನೀತಿವಂತನು ತನ್ನ ನೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ನಶಿಸುವುದುಂಟು. ದುಷ್ಟನು ತನ್ನ ದುಷ್ಟತನದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಬಹಳ ದಿನ ಬದುಕುವುದುಂಟು. ಇದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನನ್ನ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾದ ಜೀವಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

All [things] have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just [man] that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked [man] that prolongeth [his life] in his wickedness.

16 ೧೬ ನೀನು ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ನೀತಿವಂತನಾಗಿರಬೇಡ, ನಿನ್ನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀನು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾಗಿರಬೇಡ. ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ನೀನೇ ನಾಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಏಕೆ ಗುರಿಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿ?

Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?

17 ೧೭ ನೀನು ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ದುಷ್ಟನಾಗಿರಬೇಡ ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಮೂರ್ಖನಾಗಿರಬೇಡ, ಏಕೆ ಅಕಾಲ ಮರಣವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವಿ?

Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?

18 ೧೮ ನೀನು ಇದನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು, ಅದರಿಂದ ಕೈಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂತೆಗೆಯಬೇಡ. ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಭಯಪಡುವವನು ಅವೆಲ್ಲವುಗಳಿಂದ ಪಾರಾಗುವನು.

[It is] good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.

19 ೧೯ ಹತ್ತು ಮಂದಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಂದ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಬಲಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಬಲವು ಹೆಚ್ಚು.

Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty [men] which are in the city.

20 ೨೦ ಪಾಪಮಾಡದೇ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನೇ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸತ್ಪುರುಷರು ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.

For [there is] not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

21 ೨೧ ಆಡುವ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ತಾರದಿರು, ನಿನ್ನ ಆಳು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಶಪಿಸುವುದು ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದೀತು.

Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:

22 ೨೨ ನೀನು ಕೂಡ ಅನೇಕ ವೇಳೆ ಇತರರನ್ನು ಶಪಿಸಿದ್ದಿ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ.

For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.

23 ೨೩ ಇದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿದೆನು. “ನಾನು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾಗುವೆನು” ಎಂದುಕೊಂಡೆನು. ಆದರೆ ಅದು ನನ್ನಿಂದ ದೂರವಾಯಿತು.

All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it [was] far from me.

24 ೨೪ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಬಹಳ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ, ಅಗಾಧದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ಯಾರು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಾರು?

That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out?

25 ೨೫ ನಾನು ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಂಡು, ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಮೂಲತತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿ, ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿ ಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧರ್ಮವು ಮೂರ್ಖತನ, ಅಜ್ಞಾನವು ಹುಚ್ಚುತನ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟೆನು.

I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason [of things], and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness [and] madness:

26 ೨೬ ಆಗ ಮರಣಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವಿಷವೊಂದು ಕಂಡುಬಂತು. ಯಾವುದೆಂದರೆ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಹೆಂಗಸೇ. ಅವಳ ಹೃದಯವು ಉರುಲುಗಳೂ, ಬಲೆಗಳೂ, ಅವಳ ತೋಳುಗಳು ಸಂಕೋಲೆಗಳು. ದೇವರು ಒಲಿದವನು ಅವಳಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು. ಆದರೆ ಪಾಪಿಯು ಅವಳ ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಬೀಳುವನು.

And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart [is] snares and nets, [and] her hands [as] bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

27 ೨೭ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ, “ನೋಡು, ನಾನು ಇದನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿ ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ” ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಎಷ್ಟು ನಡೆಸಿದರೂ ಉತ್ತರ ಸಿಕ್ಕಲಿಲ್ಲ.

Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, [counting] one by one, to find out the account:

28 ೨೮ ಸಹಸ್ರ ಪುರುಷರಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಗ್ಯನೊಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದರೂ ಕಂಡಿರಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಸಹಸ್ರ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಗ್ಯಳೊಬ್ಬಳನ್ನೂ ಕಂಡಿಲ್ಲ.

Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.

29 ೨೯ ದೇವರು ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಸತ್ಯವಂತನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದನು. ಅವರಾದರೋ ಬಹು ಯುಕ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ನಾನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
