ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶಕಾಂಡ 20
1 ೧ ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಶತ್ರುಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಟಾಗ ಅವರ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಕುದುರೆಗಳೂ, ರಥಗಳೂ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಮಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದ ಕಾಲ್ಬಲವೂ ಇರುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ಹೆದರಬಾರದು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಐಗುಪ್ತದೇಶದಿಂದ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಿದ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಡೆ ಇದ್ದಾನಲ್ಲಾ.
And if you should go forth to war against your enemies, and should see horse, and rider, and a people more numerous than yourself; you shall not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God [is] with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
And it shall come to pass whenever you shall draw near to battle, that the priest shall draw near and speak to the people, and shall say to them,
3 ೩ “ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರೇ, ಕೇಳಿರಿ; ನೀವು ಈಗ ಶತ್ರುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡುವ ಕಾಲ ಸಮೀಪಿಸಿತಷ್ಟೆ. ನೀವು ಎದೆಗುಂದಬಾರದು, ದಿಗಿಲುಪಡಬಾರದು, ನಡುಗಬಾರದೂ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಹೆದರಲೂಬಾರದು.
Hear, O Israel; you are going this day to battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint, fear not, neither be confounded, neither turn aside from their face.
4 ೪ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ತಾನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದು ಶತ್ರುಗಳೊಡನೆ ನಿಮಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ಜಯವನ್ನು ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುವನು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.
For [it is] the Lord your God who advances with you, to fight with you against your enemies, [and] to save you.
5 ೫ ಮತ್ತು ಸೈನ್ಯಾಧಿಪತಿಗಳು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ಹೊಸ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಇನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆ ಮಾಡದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಆ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ, ಅವನು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ಸತ್ತರೆ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಆ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೃಹಪ್ರವೇಶ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು.
And the scribes shall speak to the people, saying, What man [is] he that has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the war, and another man dedicate it.
6 ೬ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಿತೋಟವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ಅದರ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಅನುಭೋಗಿಸದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅವನು ಕಾಳಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತರೆ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಆ ತೋಟದ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಭೋಗಿಸಬಹುದು.
And what man [is] he that has planted a vineyard, and not been made merry with it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man be made merry with it.
7 ೭ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ತಾನು ಮದುವೆಗೆ ನಿಶ್ಚಯ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ಹೆಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅವನು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತರೆ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಅವಳನ್ನು ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.
And what man [is] he that has betrothed a wife, and has not taken her? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
8 ೮ ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, “ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ಅಧೈರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಲು ಹಿಂಜರಿದರೆ ಅವನೂ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅವನು ದಿಗಿಲುಪಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಅವನ ಜೊತೆಗಾರರೂ ದಿಗಿಲುಪಟ್ಟಾರು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.
And the scribes shall speak further to the people, and say, What man [is] he that fears and is cowardly in his heart? Let him go and return to his house, lest he make the heart of his brother fail, as his own.
And it shall come to pass when the scribes shall have ceased speaking to the people, that they shall appoint generals of the army to be leaders of the people.
10 ೧೦ ನೀವು ಒಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅದರ ಹತ್ತಿರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ಮೊದಲು ಅದು ಯುದ್ಧವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನದಿಂದಲೇ ಅಧೀನವಾಗಬಹುದೆಂದು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಬೇಕು.
And if you shall draw near to a city to overcome them by war, then call them out peaceably.
11 ೧೧ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವವರು ಒಪ್ಪಿ ಬಾಗಿಲನ್ನು ನಿಮಗೆ ತೆರೆದುಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ನಿಮಗೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟೀಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ ದಾಸರಾಗಬೇಕು.
If then they should answer peaceably to you, and open to you, it shall be that all the people found in it shall be tributary and subject to you.
But if they will not listen to you, but wage war against you, you shall invest it;
13 ೧೩ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ನಿಮಗೆ ವಶವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗಂಡಸರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಕನಿಕರಿಸದೆ ಸಂಹಾರಮಾಡಬೇಕು.
until the Lord your God shall deliver it into your hands, and you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword:
14 ೧೪ ಹೆಂಗಸರನ್ನೂ, ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನೂ, ದನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಆಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನೂ ನೀವು ಸ್ವಂತಕ್ಕೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು. ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮಗೆ ವಶಪಡಿಸಿದ ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ಆಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀವೇ ಅನುಭೋಗಿಸಬಹುದು.
except the women and the stuff: and all the cattle, and whatever shall be in the city, and all the plunder you shall take as spoil for yourself, and shall eat all the plunder of your enemies whom the Lord your God gives you.
Thus shall you do to all the cities that are very far off from you, not [being] of the cities of these nations which the Lord your God gives you to inherit their land.
16 ೧೬ ಆದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಸ್ವಂತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುವ ಈ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡದೆ ಉಸಿರಾಡುವ ಒಬ್ಬರನ್ನಾದರೂ ಉಳಿಸಬಾರದು.
[Of these] you shall not take any thing alive;
17 ೧೭ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಪ್ಪಣೆಕೊಟ್ಟಂತೆ ಇವರನ್ನು ಅಂದರೆ ಹಿತ್ತಿಯರು, ಅಮೋರಿಯರು, ಕಾನಾನ್ಯರು, ಪೆರಿಜ್ಜೀಯರು, ಹಿವ್ವಿಯರು, ಯೆಬೂಸಿಯರು, ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ನಾಶಮಾಡಿಬಿಡಬೇಕು.
but you shall surely curse them, the Chettite, and the Amorite, and the Chananite, and the Pherezite, and the Evite, and the Jebusite, and the Gergesite; as the Lord your God commanded you:
18 ೧೮ ಇಲ್ಲವಾದರೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ದೇವರುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸುವ ನಿಷಿದ್ಧವಾದ ಆಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಲಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಾರು; ಮತ್ತು ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನಿಗೆ ದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳಾಗಬಹುದು.
that they may not teach you to do all their abominations, which they did to their gods, and [so] you should sin before the Lord your God.
19 ೧೯ ನೀವು ಒಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಹುದಿನ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆಹಾಕಿದಾಗ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿರುವ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಳುಮಾಡಬಾರದು; ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೊಡಲಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಲೇಬಾರದು. ಅವುಗಳ ಹಣ್ಣನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಬಹುದೇ ಹೊರತು ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯಬಾರದು. ಅಡವಿಯ ಮರಗಳು ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಶತ್ರುಗಳಲ್ಲ! ಅವುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಬಹುದೇ?
And if you should besiege a city many days to prevail against it by war to take it, you shall not destroy its trees, by applying an iron tool to them, but you shall eat of it, and shall not cut it down: Is the tree that is in the field a man, to enter before you into the work of the siege?
20 ೨೦ ಮರಗಳು ತಿನ್ನತಕ್ಕ ಹಣ್ಣು ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ನೀವು ತಿಳಿದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅದನ್ನು ಕಡಿದು ನಾಶಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಯುದ್ಧಸಲಕರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿಮಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವು ನಾಶವಾಗುವ ತನಕ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಬೇಕು.
But the tree which you know to be not fruit-bearing, this you shall destroy and cut down; and you shall construct a mound against the city, which makes war against you, until it be delivered up.
