ローマ人への手紙 15

1 私たち力のある者は、力のない人たちの弱さをになうべきです。自分を喜ばせるべきではありません。

We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

2 私たちはひとりひとり、隣人を喜ばせ、その徳を高め、その人の益となるようにすべきです。

Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

3 キリストでさえ、ご自身を喜ばせることはなさらなかったのです。むしろ、「あなたをそしる人々のそしりは、わたしの上にふりかかった。」と書いてあるとおりです。

For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached you fell on me.

4 昔書かれたものは、すべて私たちを教えるために書かれたのです。それは、聖書の与える忍耐と励ましによって、希望を持たせるためなのです。

For whatsoever things were written in old times were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

5 どうか、忍耐と励ましの神が、あなたがたを、キリスト・イエスにふさわしく、互いに同じ思いを持つようにしてくださいますように。

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

6 それは、あなたがたが、心を一つにし、声を合わせて、私たちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神をほめたたえるためです。

That all of you may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

7 こういうわけですから、キリストが神の栄光のために、私たちを受け入れてくださったように、あなたがたも互いに受け入れなさい。

Wherefore receive all of you one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

8 私は言います。キリストは、神の真理を現わすために、割礼のある者のしもべとなられました。それは先祖たちに与えられた約束を保証するためであり、

Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:

9 また異邦人も、あわれみのゆえに、神をあがめるようになるためです。こう書かれているとおりです。 「それゆえ、私は異邦人の中で、 あなたをほめたたえ、 あなたの御名をほめ歌おう。」

And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to you among the Gentiles, and sing unto your name.

10 また、こうも言われています。 「異邦人よ。主の民とともに喜べ。」

And again he says, Rejoice, all of you Gentiles, with his people.

11 さらにまた、 「すべての異邦人よ。主をほめよ。 もろもろの国民よ。主をたたえよ。」

And again, Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; and extol him, all you people.

12 さらにまた、イザヤがこう言っています。 「エッサイの根が起こる。 異邦人を治めるために立ち上がる方である。 異邦人はこの方に望みをかける。」

And again, Isaiah says, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

13 どうか、望みの神が、あなたがたを信仰によるすべての喜びと平和をもって満たし、聖霊の力によって望みにあふれさせてくださいますように。

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that all of you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit. (pneuma)

14 私の兄弟たちよ。あなたがた自身が善意にあふれ、すべての知恵に満たされ、また互いに訓戒し合うことができることを、この私は確信しています。

And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that all of you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

15 ただ私が所々、かなり大胆に書いたのは、あなたがたにもう一度思い起こしてもらうためでした。

Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God,

16 それも私が、異邦人のためにキリスト・イエスの仕え人となるために、神から恵みをいただいているからです。私は神の福音をもって、祭司の務めを果たしています。それは異邦人を、聖霊によってきよめられた、神に受け入れられる供え物とするためです。

That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. (pneuma)

17 それで、神に仕えることに関して、私はキリスト・イエスにあって誇りを持っているのです。

I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God.

18 私は、キリストが異邦人を従順にならせるため、この私を用いて成し遂げてくださったこと以外に、何かを話そうなどとはしません。キリストは、ことばと行ないにより、

For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word (logos) and deed,

19 また、しるしと不思議をなす力により、さらにまた、御霊の力によって、それを成し遂げてくださいました。その結果、私はエルサレムから始めて、ずっと回ってイルリコに至るまで、キリストの福音をくまなく伝えました。

Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit (pneuma) of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

20 このように、私は、他人の土台の上に建てないように、キリストの御名がまだ語られていない所に福音を宣べ伝えることを切に求めたのです。

Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation:

21 それは、こう書いてあるとおりです。 「彼のことを伝えられなかった人々が 見るようになり、 聞いたことのなかった人々が 悟るようになる。」

But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.

22 そういうわけで、私は、あなたがたのところに行くのを幾度も妨げられましたが、

For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you.

23 今は、もうこの地方には私の働くべき所がなくなりましたし、また、イスパニヤに行くばあいは、あなたがたのところに立ち寄ることを多年希望していましたので、

But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you;

24 ――というのは、途中あなたがたに会い、まず、しばらくの間あなたがたとともにいて心を満たされてから、あなたがたに送られ、そこへ行きたいと望んでいるからです。――

Whenever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way in that direction by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company.

25 ですが、今は、聖徒たちに奉仕するためにエルサレムへ行こうとしています。

But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.

26 それは、マケドニヤとアカヤでは、喜んでエルサレムの聖徒たちの中の貧しい人たちのために醵金することにしたからです。

For it has pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

27 彼らは確かに喜んでそれをしたのですが、同時にまた、その人々に対してはその義務があるのです。異邦人は霊的なことでは、その人々からもらいものをしたのですから、物質的な物をもって彼らに奉仕すべきです。

It has pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things.

28 それで、私はこのことを済ませ、彼らにこの実を確かに渡してから、あなたがたのところを通ってイスパニヤに行くことにします。

When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.

29 あなたがたのところに行くときは、キリストの満ちあふれる祝福をもって行くことと信じています。

And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

30 兄弟たち。私たちの主イエス・キリストによって、また、御霊の愛によって切にお願いします。私のために、私とともに力を尽くして神に祈ってください。

Now I plead to you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love (agape) of the Spirit, (pneuma) that all of you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

31 私がユダヤにいる不信仰な人々から救い出され、またエルサレムに対する私の奉仕が聖徒たちに受け入れられるものとなりますように。

That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;

32 その結果として、神のみこころにより、喜びをもってあなたがたのところへ行き、あなたがたの中で、ともにいこいを得ることができますように。

That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.

33 どうか、平和の神が、あなたがたすべてとともにいてくださいますように。アーメン。

Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
