マタイの福音書 4
1 さて、イエスは、悪魔の試みを受けるため、御霊に導かれて荒野に上って行かれた。
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 そして、四十日四十夜断食したあとで、空腹を覚えられた。
When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.
3 すると、試みる者が近づいて来て言った。「あなたが神の子なら、この石がパンになるように、命じなさい。」
The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 イエスは答えて言われた。「『人はパンだけで生きるのではなく、神の口から出る一つ一つのことばによる。』と書いてある。」
But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’”
5 すると、悪魔はイエスを聖なる都に連れて行き、神殿の頂に立たせて、
Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 言った。「あなたが神の子なら、下に身を投げてみなさい。『神は御使いたちに命じて、その手にあなたをささえさせ、あなたの足が石に打ち当たることのないようにされる。』と書いてありますから。」
and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and, ‘On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don’t dash your foot against a stone.’”
7 イエスは言われた。「『あなたの神である主を試みてはならない。』とも書いてある。」
Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the Lord, your God.’”
8 今度は悪魔は、イエスを非常に高い山に連れて行き、この世のすべての国々とその栄華を見せて、
Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
9 言った。「もしひれ伏して私を拝むなら、これを全部あなたに差し上げましょう。」
He said to him, “I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me.”
10 イエスは言われた。「引き下がれ、サタン。『あなたの神である主を拝み、主にだけ仕えよ。』と書いてある。」
Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’”
11 すると悪魔はイエスを離れて行き、見よ、御使いたちが近づいて来て仕えた。
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.
12 ヨハネが捕えられたと聞いてイエスは、ガリラヤへ立ちのかれた。
Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.
13 そしてナザレを去って、カペナウムに来て住まわれた。ゼブルンとナフタリとの境にある、湖のほとりの町である。
Leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 これは、預言者イザヤを通して言われた事が、成就するためであった。すなわち、
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
15 「ゼブルンの地とナフタリの地、湖に向かう道、 ヨルダンの向こう岸、異邦人のガリラヤ。
“The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
16 暗やみの中にすわっていた民は偉大な光を見、 死の地と死の陰にすわっていた人々に、 光が上った。」
the people who sat in darkness saw a great light; to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, to them light has dawned.”
17 この時から、イエスは宣教を開始して、言われた。「悔い改めなさい。天の御国が近づいたから。」
From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, “Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”
18 イエスがガリラヤ湖のほとりを歩いておられたとき、ふたりの兄弟、ペテロと呼ばれるシモンとその兄弟アンデレをご覧になった。彼らは湖で網を打っていた。漁師だったからである。
Walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
19 イエスは彼らに言われた。「わたしについて来なさい。あなたがたを、人間をとる漁師にしてあげよう。」
He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men.”
20 彼らはすぐに網を捨てて従った。
They immediately left their nets and followed him.
21 そこからなお行かれると、イエスは、別のふたりの兄弟、ゼベダイの子ヤコブとその兄弟ヨハネが、父ゼベダイといっしょに舟の中で網を繕っているのをご覧になり、ふたりをお呼びになった。
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them.
22 彼らはすぐに舟も父も残してイエスに従った。
They immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.
23 イエスはガリラヤ全土を巡って、会堂で教え、御国の福音を宣べ伝え、民の中のあらゆる病気、あらゆるわずらいを直された。
Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
24 イエスのうわさはシリヤ全体に広まった。それで、人々は、さまざまの病気と痛みに苦しむ病人、悪霊につかれた人、てんかん持ちや、中風の者などをみな、みもとに連れて来た。イエスは彼らをお直しになった。
The report about him went out into all Syria. They brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed with demons, epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them.
25 こうしてガリラヤ、デカポリス、エルサレム、ユダヤおよびヨルダンの向こう岸から大ぜいの群衆がイエスにつき従った。
Great multitudes from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan followed him.
