マタイの福音書 1
1 アブラハムの子孫、ダビデの子孫、イエス・キリストの系図。
This book is the record of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham, beginning with the family line:
2 アブラハムにイサクが生まれ、イサクにヤコブが生まれ、ヤコブにユダとその兄弟たちが生まれ、
Abraham was the father of Isaac; and Isaac the father of Jacob; and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers;
3 ユダに、タマルによってパレスとザラが生まれ、パレスにエスロンが生まれ、エスロンにアラムが生まれ、
and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah (their mother was Tamar); and Perez the father of Hezron; and Hezron the father of Ram;
4 アラムにアミナダブが生まれ、アミナダブにナアソンが生まれ、ナアソンにサルモンが生まれ、
and Ram the father of Amminadab; and Amminadab the father of Nahshon; and Nahshon the father of Salmon;
5 サルモンに、ラハブによってボアズが生まれ、ボアズに、ルツによってオベデが生まれ、オベデにエッサイが生まれ、
and Salmon the father of Boaz (his mother was Rahab); and Boaz the father of Obed (his mother was Ruth); and Obed the father of Jesse;
6 エッサイにダビデ王が生まれた。 ダビデに、ウリヤの妻によってソロモンが生まれ、
and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (his mother had been Uriah's wife);
7 ソロモンにレハベアムが生まれ、レハベアムにアビヤが生まれ、アビヤにアサが生まれ、
and Solomon the father of Rehoboam; and Rehoboam the father of Abijah; and Abijah the father of Asa;
8 アサにヨサパテが生まれ、ヨサパテにヨラムが生まれ、ヨラムにウジヤが生まれ、
and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat; and Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram; and Jehoram the father of Uzziah;
9 ウジヤにヨタムが生まれ、ヨタムにアハズが生まれ、アハズにヒゼキヤが生まれ、
and Uzziah the father of Jotham; and Jotham the father of Ahaz; and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah;
10 ヒゼキヤにマナセが生まれ、マナセにアモンが生まれ、アモンにヨシヤが生まれ、
and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh; and Manasseh the father of Amon; and Amon the father of Josiah;
11 ヨシヤに、バビロン移住のころエコニヤとその兄弟たちが生まれた。
and Josiah the father of Jehoiachin and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12 バビロン移住の後、エコニヤにサラテルが生まれ、サラテルにゾロバベルが生まれ、
After the exile to Babylon, Jehoiachin was the father of Shealtiel; and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel;
13 ゾロバベルにアビウデが生まれ、アビウデにエリヤキムが生まれ、エリヤキムにアゾルが生まれ、
and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud; and Abiud the father of Eliakim; and Eliakim the father of Azor;
14 アゾルにサドクが生まれ、サドクにアキムが生まれ、アキムにエリウデが生まれ、
and Azor the father of Zadok; and Zadok the father of Akim; and Akim the father of Eliud;
15 エリウデにエレアザルが生まれ、エレアザルにマタンが生まれ、マタンにヤコブが生まれ、
and Eliud the father of Eleazar; and Eleazar the father of Matthan; and Matthan the father of Jacob;
16 ヤコブにマリヤの夫ヨセフが生まれた。キリストと呼ばれるイエスはこのマリヤからお生まれになった。
and Jacob was the father of Joseph, who was the husband of Mary, to whom Jesus was born, the one who is called the Messiah.
17 それで、アブラハムからダビデまでの代が全部で十四代、ダビデからバビロン移住までが十四代、バビロン移住からキリストまでが十四代になる。
So all the generations from Abraham to David add up to fourteen; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen; and from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah, fourteen.
18 イエス・キリストの誕生は次のようであった。その母マリヤはヨセフの妻と決まっていたが、ふたりがまだいっしょにならないうちに、聖霊によって身重になったことがわかった。
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah happened. His mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, but before they slept together she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
19 夫のヨセフは正しい人であって、彼女をさらし者にはしたくなかったので、内密に去らせようと決めた。
Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and didn't want to shame her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement discreetly.
20 彼がこのことを思い巡らしていたとき、主の使いが夢に現われて言った。「ダビデの子ヨセフ。恐れないであなたの妻マリヤを迎えなさい。その胎に宿っているものは聖霊によるのです。
While he was thinking about all of this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and told him, “Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to marry Mary because she is pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
21 マリヤは男の子を産みます。その名をイエスとつけなさい。この方こそ、ご自分の民をその罪から救ってくださる方です。」
She will give birth to a son and you shall call him Jesus, for he will save people from their sins.”
22 このすべての出来事は、主が預言者を通して言われた事が成就するためであった。
(Now this all happened to fulfill what the Lord said through the prophet:
23 「見よ、処女がみごもっている。そして男の子を産む。その名はインマヌエルと呼ばれる。」（訳すと、神は私たちとともにおられる、という意味である。）
“A virgin will become pregnant, and will give birth to a son. They will call him Immanuel,” which means “God with us.”)
24 ヨセフは眠りからさめ、主の使いに命じられたとおりにして、その妻を迎え入れ、
Joseph woke up and did what the angel of the Lord told him to do.
25 そして、子どもが生まれるまで彼女を知ることがなく、その子どもの名をイエスとつけた。
Joseph married Mary, but did not sleep with her until after she had given birth to a son, whom he named Jesus.
