ヨハネの福音書 1
1 初めに、ことばがあった。ことばは神とともにあった。ことばは神であった。
In the beginning was the Word, (logos) and the Word (logos) was with God, and the Word (logos) was God.
2 この方は、初めに神とともにおられた。
The same was in the beginning with God.
3 すべてのものは、この方によって造られた。造られたもので、この方によらずにできたものは一つもない。
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 この方にいのちがあった。このいのちは人の光であった。
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 光はやみの中に輝いている。やみはこれに打ち勝たなかった。
And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 神から遣わされたヨハネという人が現われた。
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 この人はあかしのために来た。光についてあかしするためであり、すべての人が彼によって信じるためである。
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 彼は光ではなかった。ただ光についてあかしするために来たのである。
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 すべての人を照らすそのまことの光が世に来ようとしていた。
That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.
10 この方はもとから世におられ、世はこの方によって造られたのに、世はこの方を知らなかった。
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 この方はご自分のくにに来られたのに、ご自分の民は受け入れなかった。
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 しかし、この方を受け入れた人々、すなわち、その名を信じた人々には、神の子どもとされる特権をお与えになった。
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 この人々は、血によってではなく、肉の欲求や人の意欲によってでもなく、ただ、神によって生まれたのである。
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 ことばは人となって、私たちの間に住まわれた。私たちはこの方の栄光を見た。父のみもとから来られたひとり子としての栄光である。この方は恵みとまことに満ちておられた。
And the Word (logos) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth.
15 ヨハネはこの方について証言し、叫んで言った。「『私のあとから来る方は、私にまさる方である。私より先におられたからである。』と私が言ったのは、この方のことです。」
John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 私たちはみな、この方の満ち満ちた豊かさの中から、恵みの上にさらに恵みを受けたのである。
And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 というのは、律法はモーセによって与えられ、恵みとまことはイエス・キリストによって実現したからである。
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 いまだかつて神を見た者はいない。父のふところにおられるひとり子の神が、神を説き明かされたのである。
No man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
19 ヨハネの証言は、こうである。ユダヤ人たちが祭司とレビ人をエルサレムからヨハネのもとに遣わして、「あなたはどなたですか。」と尋ねさせた。
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?
20 彼は告白して否まず、「私はキリストではありません。」と言明した。
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 また、彼らは聞いた。「では、いったい何ですか。あなたはエリヤですか。」彼は言った。「そうではありません。」「あなたはあの預言者ですか。」彼は答えた。「違います。」
And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he says, I am not. Are you that prophet? And he answered, No.
22 そこで、彼らは言った。「あなたはだれですか。私たちを遣わした人々に返事をしたいのですが、あなたは自分を何だと言われるのですか。」
Then said they unto him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What say you of yourself?
23 彼は言った。「私は、預言者イザヤが言ったように『主の道をまっすぐにせよ。』と荒野で叫んでいる者の声です。」
He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
24 彼らは、パリサイ人の中から遣わされたのであった。
And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
25 彼らはまた尋ねて言った。「キリストでもなく、エリヤでもなく、またあの預言者でもないなら、なぜ、あなたはバプテスマを授けているのですか。」
And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptize you then, if you be not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?
26 ヨハネは答えて言った。「私は水でバプテスマを授けているが、あなたがたの中に、あなたがたの知らない方が立っておられます。
John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there stands one among you, whom all of you know not;
27 その方は私のあとから来られる方で、私はその方のくつのひもを解く値うちもありません。」
He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 この事があったのは、ヨルダンの向こう岸のベタニヤであって、ヨハネはそこでバプテスマを授けていた。
These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 その翌日、ヨハネは自分のほうにイエスが来られるのを見て言った。「見よ、世の罪を取り除く神の小羊。
The next day John sees Jesus coming unto him, and says, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.
30 私が『私のあとから来る人がある。その方は私にまさる方である。私より先におられたからだ。』と言ったのは、この方のことです。
This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 私もこの方を知りませんでした。しかし、この方がイスラエルに明らかにされるために、私は来て、水でバプテスマを授けているのです。」
And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 またヨハネは証言して言った。「御霊が鳩のように天から下って、この方の上にとどまられるのを私は見ました。
And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit (pneuma) descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 私もこの方を知りませんでした。しかし、水でバプテスマを授けさせるために私を遣わされた方が、私に言われました。『聖霊がある方の上に下って、その上にとどまられるのがあなたに見えたなら、その方こそ、聖霊によってバプテスマを授ける方である。』
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit (pneuma) descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Spirit. (pneuma)
34 私はそれを見たのです。それで、この方が神の子であると証言しているのです。」
And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35 その翌日、またヨハネは、ふたりの弟子とともに立っていたが、
Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 イエスが歩いて行かれるのを見て、「見よ、神の小羊。」と言った。
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he says, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 ふたりの弟子は、彼がそう言うのを聞いて、イエスについて行った。
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 イエスは振り向いて、彼らがついて来るのを見て、言われた。「あなたがたは何を求めているのですか。」彼らは言った。「ラビ（訳して言えば、先生）。今どこにお泊まりですか。」
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and says unto them, What seek all of you? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master, ) where dwell you?
39 イエスは彼らに言われた。「来なさい。そうすればわかります。」そこで、彼らはついて行って、イエスの泊まっておられる所を知った。そして、その日彼らはイエスといっしょにいた。時は十時ごろであった。
He says unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 ヨハネから聞いて、イエスについて行ったふたりのうちのひとりは、シモン・ペテロの兄弟アンデレであった。
One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 彼はまず自分の兄弟シモンを見つけて、「私たちはメシヤ（訳して言えば、キリスト）に会った。」と言った。
He first finds his own brother Simon, and says unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 彼はシモンをイエスのもとに連れて来た。イエスはシモンに目を留めて言われた。「あなたはヨハネの子シモンです。あなたをケパ（訳すとペテロ）と呼ぶことにします。」
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, You are Simon the son of Jona: you shall be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
43 その翌日、イエスはガリラヤに行こうとされた。そして、ピリポを見つけて「わたしに従って来なさい。」と言われた。
The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and finds Philip, and says unto him, Follow me.
44 ピリポは、ベツサイダの人で、アンデレやペテロと同じ町の出身であった。
Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 彼はナタナエルを見つけて言った。「私たちは、モーセが律法の中に書き、預言者たちも書いている方に会いました。ナザレの人で、ヨセフの子イエスです。」
Philip finds Nathanael, and says unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 ナタナエルは彼に言った。「ナザレから何の良いものが出るだろう。」ピリポは言った。「来て、そして、見なさい。」
And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip says unto him, Come and see.
47 イエスはナタナエルが自分のほうに来るのを見て、彼について言われた。「これこそ、ほんとうのイスラエル人だ。彼のうちには偽りがない。」
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and says of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 ナタナエルはイエスに言った。「どうして私をご存じなのですか。」イエスは言われた。「わたしは、ピリポがあなたを呼ぶ前に、あなたがいちじくの木の下にいるのを見たのです。」
Nathanael says unto him, Whence know you me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.
49 ナタナエルは答えた。「先生。あなたは神の子です。あなたはイスラエルの王です。」
Nathanael answered and says unto him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.
50 イエスは答えて言われた。「あなたがいちじくの木の下にいるのを見た、とわたしが言ったので、あなたは信じるのですか。あなたは、それよりもさらに大きなことを見ることになります。」
Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto you, I saw you under the fig tree, believe you? you shall see greater things than these.
51 そして言われた。「まことに、まことに、あなたがたに告げます。天が開けて、神の御使いたちが人の子の上を上り下りするのを、あなたがたはいまに見ます。」
And he says unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter all of you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
