ヤコブの手紙 5
1 聞きなさい。金持ちたち。あなたがたの上に迫って来る悲惨を思って泣き叫びなさい。
COME now, ye rich men, let your tears run down, howling over your miseries which are coming upon you.
2 あなたがたの富は腐っており、あなたがたの着物は虫に食われており、
Your wealth is corrupted, and your robes are moth-eaten.
3 あなたがたの金銀にはさびが来て、そのさびが、あなたがたを責める証言となり、あなたがたの肉を火のように食い尽くします。あなたがたは、終わりの日に財宝をたくわえました。
Your gold and silver is cankered with rust; and the rust upon them is a testimony against you, and shall eat into your flesh as fire. Ye have heaped up treasures in the last days.
4 見なさい。あなたがたの畑の刈り入れをした労働者への未払い賃金が、叫び声をあげています。そして、取り入れをした人たちの叫び声は、万軍の主の耳に届いています。
Behold, the wages of the workmen who have mowed down your fields, which is kept back by you from them, crieth out: and the loud moans of the reapers are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
5 あなたがたは、地上でぜいたくに暮らし、快楽にふけり、殺される日にあたって自分の心を太らせました。
Ye have gormandized upon the earth, and lived in every luxury: ye have pampered your hearts, as in a day of feasting on the victim slain.
6 あなたがたは、正しい人を罪に定めて、殺しました。彼はあなたがたに抵抗しません。
Ye have falsely condemned, ye have murdered the just man; nor doth he resist you.
7 こういうわけですから、兄弟たち。主が来られる時まで耐え忍びなさい。見なさい。農夫は、大地の貴重な実りを、秋の雨や春の雨が降るまで、耐え忍んで待っています。
Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, in patient expectation for it, till it receives the former and the latter rain.
8 あなたがたも耐え忍びなさい。心を強くしなさい。主の来られるのが近いからです。
Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts; for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
9 兄弟たち。互いにつぶやき合ってはいけません。さばかれないためです。見なさい。さばきの主が、戸口のところに立っておられます。
Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest be ye condemned: lo! the judge standeth at the gates.
10 苦難と忍耐については、兄弟たち、主の御名によって語った預言者たちを模範にしなさい。
My brethren, take a pattern for suffering affliction, and patience from the prophets, who have spoken to you in the name of the Lord.
11 見なさい。耐え忍んだ人たちは幸いであると、私たちは考えます。あなたがたは、ヨブの忍耐のことを聞いています。また、主が彼になさったことの結末を見たのです。主は慈愛に富み、あわれみに満ちておられる方だということです。
Behold, we esteem those blessed who patiently endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; for the Lord is full of bowels of mercy, and tenderly compassionate.
12 私の兄弟たちよ。何よりもまず、誓わないようにしなさい。天をさしても地をさしても、そのほかの何をさしてもです。ただ、「はい。」を「はい。」、「いいえ。」を「いいえ。」としなさい。それは、あなたがたが、さばきに会わないためです。
But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by earth, nor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your no, no; that ye fall not under condemnation.
13 あなたがたのうちに苦しんでいる人がいますか。その人は祈りなさい。喜んでいる人がいますか。その人は賛美しなさい。
Is any man among you under afflictions? let him pray. Is any man happy in mind? let him sing psalms.
14 あなたがたのうちに病気の人がいますか。その人は教会の長老たちを招き、主の御名によって、オリーブ油を塗って祈ってもらいなさい。
Is any man sick among you? let him send for the presbyters of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 信仰による祈りは、病む人を回復させます。主はその人を立たせてくださいます。また、もしその人が罪を犯していたなら、その罪は赦されます。
and the prayer of faith shall recover the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he hath committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 ですから、あなたがたは、互いに罪を言い表わし、互いのために祈りなさい。いやされるためです。義人の祈りは働くと、大きな力があります。
Confess your offences one to another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The energetic prayer of a righteous man is mightily prevalent.
17 エリヤは、私たちと同じような人でしたが、雨が降らないように祈ると、三年六か月の間、地に雨が降りませんでした。
Elias was a man of like feelings with us, and he prayed fervently that it should not rain; and there fell no rain on the earth during three years and six months.
18 そして、再び祈ると、天は雨を降らせ、地はその実を実らせました。
And he prayed again, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth shot up its fruit.
19 私の兄弟たち。あなたがたのうちに、真理から迷い出た者がいて、だれかがその人を連れ戻すようなことがあれば、
Brethren, if any man among you should have erred from the truth, and one convert him;
20 罪人を迷いの道から引き戻す者は、罪人のたましいを死から救い出し、また、多くの罪をおおうのだということを、あなたがたは知っていなさい。
let him know, that he that converteth a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.
