使徒の働き 27
1 さて、私たちが船でイタリヤへ行くことが決まったとき、パウロと、ほかの数人の囚人は、ユリアスという親衛隊の百人隊長に引き渡された。
And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.
2 私たちは、アジヤの沿岸の各地に寄港して行くアドラミテオの船に乗り込んで出帆した。テサロニケのマケドニヤ人アリスタルコも同行した。
And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
3 翌日、シドンに入港した。ユリアスはパウロを親切に取り扱い、友人たちのところへ行って、もてなしを受けることを許した。
And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.
4 そこから出帆したが、向かい風なので、キプロスの島陰を航行した。
And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
5 そしてキリキヤとパンフリヤの沖を航行して、ルキヤのミラに入港した。
And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.
6 そこに、イタリヤへ行くアレキサンドリヤの船があったので、百人隊長は私たちをそれに乗り込ませた。
And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.
7 幾日かの間、船の進みはおそく、ようやくのことでクニドの沖に着いたが、風のためにそれ以上進むことができず、サルモネ沖のクレテの島陰を航行し、
And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;
8 その岸に沿って進みながら、ようやく、良い港と呼ばれる所に着いた。その近くにラサヤの町があった。
And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.
9 かなりの日数が経過しており、断食の季節もすでに過ぎていたため、もう航海は危険であったので、パウロは人々に注意して、
Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,
10 「皆さん。この航海では、きっと、積荷や船体だけではなく、私たちの生命にも、危害と大きな損失が及ぶと、私は考えます。」と言った。
And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.
11 しかし百人隊長は、パウロのことばよりも、航海士や船長のほうを信用した。
Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.
12 また、この港が冬を過ごすのに適していなかったので、大多数の者の意見は、ここを出帆して、できれば何とかして、南西と北西とに面しているクレテの港ピニクスまで行って、そこで冬を過ごしたいということになった。
And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.
13 おりから、穏やかな南風が吹いて来ると、人々はこの時とばかり錨を上げて、クレテの海岸に沿って航行した。
And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.
14 ところが、まもなくユーラクロンという暴風が陸から吹きおろして来て、
But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.
15 船はそれに巻き込まれ、風に逆らって進むことができないので、しかたなく吹き流されるままにした。
And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.
16 しかしクラウダという小さな島の陰にはいったので、ようやくのことで小舟を処置することができた。
And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
17 小舟を船に引き上げ、備え綱で船体を巻いた。また、スルテスの浅瀬に乗り上げるのを恐れて、船具をはずして流れるに任せた。
Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.
18 私たちは暴風に激しく翻弄されていたので、翌日、人々は積荷を捨て始め、
And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;
19 三日目には、自分の手で船具までも投げ捨てた。
And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
20 太陽も星も見えない日が幾日も続き、激しい暴風が吹きまくるので、私たちが助かる最後の望みも今や絶たれようとしていた。
And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
21 だれも長いこと食事をとらなかったが、そのときパウロが彼らの中に立って、こう言った。「皆さん。あなたがたは私の忠告を聞き入れて、クレテを出帆しなかったら、こんな危害や損失をこうむらなくて済んだのです。
But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
22 しかし、今、お勧めします。元気を出しなさい。あなたがたのうち、いのちを失う者はひとりもありません。失われるのは船だけです。
And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.
23 昨夜、私の主で、私の仕えている神の御使いが、私の前に立って、
For there stood by me this night the angel of YHWH, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24 こう言いました。『恐れてはいけません。パウロ。あなたは必ずカイザルの前に立ちます。そして、神はあなたと同船している人々をみな、あなたにお与えになったのです。』
Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, YHWH hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
25 ですから、皆さん。元気を出しなさい。すべて私に告げられたとおりになると、私は神によって信じています。
Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe YHWH, that it shall be even as it was told me.
26 私たちは必ず、どこかの島に打ち上げられます。」
Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.
27 十四日目の夜になって、私たちがアドリヤ海を漂っていると、真夜中ごろ、水夫たちは、どこかの陸地に近づいたように感じた。
But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
28 水の深さを測ってみると、四十メートルほどであることがわかった。少し進んでまた測ると、三十メートルほどであった。
And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.
29 どこかで暗礁に乗り上げはしないかと心配して、ともから四つの錨を投げおろし、夜の明けるのを待った。
Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.
30 ところが、水夫たちは船から逃げ出そうとして、へさきから錨を降ろすように見せかけて、小舟を海に降ろしていたので、
And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,
31 パウロは百人隊長や兵士たちに、「あの人たちが船にとどまっていなければ、あなたがたも助かりません。」と言った。
Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.
32 そこで兵士たちは、小舟の綱を断ち切って、そのまま流れ去るのに任せた。
Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.
33 ついに夜の明けかけたころ、パウロは、一同に食事をとることを勧めて、こう言った。「あなたがたは待ちに待って、きょうまで何も食べずに過ごして、十四日になります。
And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
34 ですから、私はあなたがたに、食事をとることを勧めます。これであなたがたは助かることになるのです。あなたがたの頭から髪一筋も失われることはありません。」
Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
35 こう言って、彼はパンを取り、一同の前で神に感謝をささげてから、それを裂いて食べ始めた。
And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to YHWH in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.
36 そこで一同も元気づけられ、みなが食事をとった。
Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.
37 船にいた私たちは全部で二百七十六人であった。
And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.
38 十分食べてから、彼らは麦を海に投げ捨てて、船を軽くした。
And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.
39 夜が明けると、どこの陸地かわからないが、砂浜のある入江が目に留まったので、できれば、そこに船を乗り入れようということになった。
And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
40 錨を切って海に捨て、同時にかじ綱を解き、風に前の帆を上げて、砂浜に向かって進んで行った。
And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.
41 ところが、潮流の流れ合う浅瀬に乗り上げて、船を座礁させてしまった。へさきはめり込んで動かなくなり、ともは激しい波に打たれて破れ始めた。
And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.
42 兵士たちは、囚人たちがだれも泳いで逃げないように、殺してしまおうと相談した。
And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
43 しかし百人隊長は、パウロをあくまでも助けようと思って、その計画を押え、泳げる者がまず海に飛び込んで陸に上がるように、
But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:
44 それから残りの者は、板切れや、その他の、船にある物につかまって行くように命じた。こうして、彼らはみな、無事に陸に上がった。
And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
